Is it a blessing in disguise that the 2013 Laker pick was not a lottery pick?
I was PISSED when the Jazz landed Shabazz at #14 as that should have been OUR pick! But seeing how Shabazz hasn't done ****, AND no one else drafted after #14 seems to be a stud, perhaps we lucked out getting #29 to land Archie.

That trade was epic in terms of value. Two 1st rounders for a guy who is nearly retired. I'm excited to see where their pick is next year since Kobe is eating up their cap. I thought they'd at least have a shot at two max guys.
Buss Jr is locking them into mediocrity.

If Goodwin turns out to be a stud, sure. But time will tell. We could have taken McLemore with our first pick and Antetokounmpo with the 14th pick and maybe had our wings for the future too, and then gotten a guy like Embiid this next year to be our future big.
It's really tough to judge this early. But I'm happy to have Goodwin.

I think what Archie has shown so far and his potential is solid value, had he been picked at #14. There's still 4-5 other players I would have preferred in the 14+ range in hindsight, though.

Given McD's focus on speed, defending and length I doubt Shabazz would have been given much consideration by the Suns.
And as disappointing as his season at UCLA was it was even worse if you actually watched the games. It was really hard to see how his style of play was going to translate into the NBA. His game was almost entirely below the rim and a lot of just dribbling and forcing his way into the post to get an interior shot... which is all well and good when the college guard you're posting up is 6'2" 170, but that wont fly in the NBA where almost everyone he faces is taller, faster and longer than him. His offensive game seemed was more like an extremely undersized power forward instead of the explosive wing that people thought he would be.
... also disappointing was how much his teammates seemed to dislike him (and he them) and the fact that he was a year older than everyone thought he was.

Is the 2015 pick protected at all?

it's top 5 protected, then top 3 protected for the next two years, and then not protected at all according to the Suns realgm page

Believe me, the league will find a way to make the Lakers relevant again. Would'nt be surprised if they have a bit of "lottery luck" this offseason if they don't make the playoffs.

Yeah, I'm secretly hoping for the Lakers to make the playoffs so they don't win the lottery. LOL.
But then what happens if a .500 Laker team signs Carmelo? Carmel, plus old man Bryant and old man Gasol could still be a force if they have 2-3 guys develop off the bench.
