Hello everyone! I'm new here and being from Brazil i thought it would be great to start posting in the Barbosa thread.
One thing I think it's overlooked on how well teams do is the off the court relationships.
Ever since Barbosa got back, his old and new teammates only seems to enjoy his presence. Dragic, who I thought didn't like Barbosa, was very open on twitter on how happy he is that LB is back. Channing too, and even Bledsoe congratulated him on the season long contract.
The great problem with him was always his efficiency. I think there's no one better than Hornacek to make LB a productive player in limited minutes.
The #Suns plan to sign Leandro Barbosa to a 10-day contract.

Classic FGA does not incorporate that, nor did my hacked stats (although I thought about including fouls -- too convoluted and too much work). But definitely some of the advanced stats factor that in, like True Shooting %.
I mean, it makes sense. It's just complicated.

Speaking of True Shooting %: For his career, Barbosa has a 56.3 TS%. That's very good. Better than...(pulling random names) other former Suns wings like Raja Bell (54.4) and Jason Richardson (52.9), current Suns including Bledsoe (51.9) and Dragic (55.5), and big name wings like Carmelo (54.6) and Kobe (55.5).
So that's efficient. Now, he's well below that right now this season, but I expect it to rise as he finds his rhythm.

"Developing" Archie doesn't mean giving him minutes he hasn't earned over other players on the roster he hasn't outplayed.

I get where you're coming from, but I think young players need playing time to develop. I'm not saying you bench Ish or Barbosa, but am a little disappointed that Hornacek has gone away from getting Goodwin a handful of meaningful minutes a night. I think he can still do that and still play Ish/Barbosa.
Ultimately, though, riding the pine for the time being isn't going to destroy Archie's future.

It's how it is with any team in the playoff race. The rookies aren't going to get played if they aren't ready to play out the gate. It is what it is. I'd love Archie to get more spot minutes but I believe Hornacek knows best and he still has big future plans for young Archie so I'm not really that worried.

I'm not relaxed because I'm not drinking the Barbosa Koolaid?Brazil88 wrote:Expectations shouldn't be so high for someone who's just coming back from a serious injury and also being on a good contract.
I don't have any expectations for Barbosa.
Sorry if i chose the wrong words, english is only my third language. Thought that relax was ok, but again, sorry. About the Barbosa koolaid, I'm not on that too. That's not what I'm trying to say.
I just think that for a guy coming from such a serious injury and also having a very good contract (on a league full of awful contracts), the fans should not be focusing too much on him (either for good or bad). He will help the Suns on some nights and not so many on others. At least to me, that's more than I would expect from a guy on a veteran minimum contract.
That's just it. Don't think he will even be on the regular rotation once Bledsoe comes back. But until then, if he can help a little bit, that's awesome, right ?

Fair enough. And no apologies necessary, Brazil. That was well-crafted response, and I think I have a better idea now where you are coming from.

Curry models Barbosa
If some of Stephen Curry’s finishes on drives look familiar, it is because you know his model of them well — Suns guard Leandro Barbosa.
“We had a debate last year about who was the best finisher at the rim, not dunking,” Curry said. “Just what we call layup game and crafty. He was my favorite. Obviously, he’s fast and explosive, but the way he created around the rim, using both hands and deceptive and getting his finishes off and dealing with contact. I studied a lot of that film.”
