the problem with mcdo and every other inexperienced managers is that they tend to follow a certain formula and stay the course even if circumstances change. bill simmons said the way to keep your new job as GM of a non-playoff team this year is to tank hard and go for pingpong balls ("selling hope to the rubes.") But we arent going for lottery balls this year. In Mcdo's case, doing nothing made the situation worse and finishing 9th in the west would be very unsatisfying.
