I'm torn when it comes to our predicament. I, like everyone else, wants to win NOW. I don't want to wait 3 years for Len to develop, or another year for Plumlee to develop, or go through this year and maybe not see the Morii "grow" into their roles.
But I also don't want to bring in a couple of guys that will take minutes away from these guys. I mean, it's not like we've seen the "ceiling" for Len, Plumlee, or the Morii. There really is a chance that Plumlee could break out this year and turn into a 14/11/2 guy. Or Len shows a lot of growth through the year and minutes he sees. Or that Kieff fully embraces his starting role and ends up a 20/9-type and a top 10 PF in the league...OOOORRRR, that Marcus really turns the corner and becomes a 6th Man of the Year candidate. Remember, Marcus WAS the higher rated player coming out, so the talent is there.
I say, give it this year to see how these guys do, then McD can make a better informed decision on how to proceed, either at the trade deadline, if we're in the Playoff hunt, or next offseason, especially when we'll have better clarity on the draft picks coming, or not coming, our way. I mean, doesn't that seem to make more sense than to just throw the towel in in these guys?
I mean, sure, if there is a decent, veteran big that we could bring in as insurance, yet not greatly impact minutes for Plumlee/Len/Morii, by all means, grab him.
Or if by some miracle, we're able to land a guy like B. Griffin, A. Davis, Noah, LMA, Horford, or M. Gasol...some can't miss top big, then of course, go get him.
But I wouldn't spend a ton in assets or money to just marginally get better in the Front Court. We might already have all the pieces, we just may need to be more patient, is all.
