Off Topic: Arizona Sports 98.7

I do a ton of driving for work, and have pretty consistently listened to 98.7, or 620 back in the day, and am really curious about a few things.

Does anyone listen to Off the Edge with B-Train? That may be the worst show that they have ever had on their station. They used to have Cowherd in his slot, who at least could speak without stuttering. He gets his own show on this station over someone like Mark Asher? What is he going to do when football season ends, because, he seems limited in his knowledge of other sports.

Next, why do Burns and Gambo always talk about Gambos "super hot fiance?" I finally looked her up after weeks of hearing them talk about her, and she looks pretty average to me.

Third, Doug and Wolf hate each other, and it leads to the most awkward radio show occasionally.

I know this really isn't the forum to talk about this, but I don't know any other place where local people may listen as much as I do and have the ability comment on this.

I also listen to 98.7 and basically agree with all of your points except the third one. I have never picked up or sensed that Doug and Wolf hate each other. What makes you say that?

I must say I do think Gambo got pretty lucky with that new fiancé. She looks half his age, and I do wonder if people misjudge them as father and daughter when their out together.

Doug and Wolf totally hate each other! Do you remember when they almost got in a fight and had to later apologize? I heard that live and thought they were joking, but it was definitely real. I think everyone who works there thinks that Doug is dumb or annoying... I would love for Asher to take his spot along with Wolf

I don't care that Burns and Gambo talk about his fiancé. I think it's just part of them being characters. I enjoy listening to them for the most part and think they balance each other well.

As far as Off the Edge goes... I like that it's all about the Cardinals, but you are right... What happens when the season is over?? Also, listening to B-train ask a question to someone he is interviewing is pretty painful. And his co-host just doesn't have the radio voice or personality. I think it was a quick fix and it'll end up being changed soon.

Send Gambo back to the East Coast. He's up there with $arver as well.

I wish they kept Colin. I can't stand listening to the Cards 24/7. I get that they're the best team in AZ at the moment but I think 98.7 pretty much only talks Cards now.

I like Bickley and Mariotta/ Burns and Gambo. The rest, no thanks.

I'd love it if they brought back Chuck Powell. Dude is funny, topical, and knows sports.

I just wish there were more sports radio options in the valley. You would think a city this big could support 2-3 stations.

Just be happy you don't live in Austin then. There is one station and even during non Football season ALL they talk about is UT football. Occasionally the Dallas Cowboys.

I went to HS with Marotta. I remember talking to him a bit at the 10 year hs reunion. What a great job to have.

Chuck Powell is probably the most talented radio personality I've heard whether it be local or national. I heard he's into other things now but sometimes he guest hosts.

Bickley & Marotta have great chemistry and are always entertaining. Bickley the personality is much better than Bickley the writer. Vinny is incredibly quick and witty.

Burns & Gambo have always been solid but with 4 hour shows it can get stale. Everyone hates Cowherd but and I think his show is great.

from what i gather, Powell has higher aspirations than being a sports talk show host. I remember a while back when he and Marotta where doing fill ins for a few weeks and Powell was constantly plugging his new book. I'm happy for the guy, but the idea of him doing sports radio is out of the question. I believe, a while back, he was looking at doing a talk show on 92.3.

The only guys i get to catch currently are Bickley and Marotta. Those two are probably the best we have on the station right now. They give a lot of insight, and arent afraid to poke at the rest of the media. They are critical of our teams and arent bunch of homers. And the interviews are pretty in depth with Arians on Mondays (i think).

Doug and Wolfe - strictly cardinals from what i remember hearing a while ago
Bickley and Moratta - Cards heavily and some suns and DBacks
Burns and Gambo - Suns and Coyotes and Dbacks when the season comes into play.

As far as Colin goes. He's no longer ESPN so the station had no choice but to chance. He's on 910 AM in the same slot as he was. He's a FOX guy now.

That's pretty cool. A cool job for sure but radio guys bounce around a lot. I remember listening to his morning show in high school with Chuck Powell. They were great together.
