Their go to shot is a 18 footer, and unless you're one of the best 10 players in history at it, you'll be average to bad.

Knight is actually incredibly smart OFF the court, but I agree when he's on the court his bball IQ is awful.

Four years of college basketball, as opposed to one, might have transferred his natural intelligence to basketball ...

That's the thing that has been hard for me to wrap my head around when it comes to Knight. Off the court, he is probably one of the smarter guys in the league, he has the physical tools, and by all accounts he is an extremely hard worker, but for whatever reason that hasn't translated into 'smart' basketball. I get that he is young, but to me it seems like he's had the same problems since he entered the league and they haven't really gotten better. Bad shot selection, turnovers, mediocre defense, not a great facilitator. Do we just accept this is who he is, or do we hope he 'gets it' at some point still and turns into a really good player?

IQ is like any other skill, it develops. Assist % typically goes up for guards and TO% goes down as they get older. Brandon has a higher assist % at 24 than Goran, a lower TO% than Lowry, and there's countless others. The real truth is there simply aren't that many guys who come in right off the bat as guys who make great passes, don't turn it over, and only take great shots. It's like Chris Paul and Steve Nash and other HOFers.

Brandon's assist % and TO% has clearly been moving in the right direction as a general trend over his career. He needs to be more disciplined in terms of shot selection, but that's also the coach's job. The idea a team like San Antonio just has smarter players is ridiculous. Pop simply doesn't allow people to take contested shots. He berates it out of them.

While I don't like the fact that we give Lakers 1st for him (maybe we could sign him in the offseason anyway and keep the pick) he gets to much hate here. It's too early to give up on him. Get him some time to develop (but with new coaching staff!).
