What should Suns do?

Post#1 » by Damkac » Mon Feb 1, 2016 11:04 pm

WIth Hornacek fired I think it's a good time to discuss the future of the team. I think everyone here is tired of competing for playoffs and failing year after year. Suns needs to take one of two directions:

Option A: Compete now

Trade for all-star player. Preferably around 26-27 years old. Love and Griffin comes to mind (don't think Cousins is available, Horford and Whiteside are RFA - not worth trading for). It would cost us our pick and probably also Booker.

In offseason try to sign some big free agent. For example mentioned Horford or Whiteside.

Create big 3 with Bledsoe, traded guy and free agent. They are in early stage of their primes so you have few years to compete.

Option B: Rebuild

Build team around very young players. Trade Bledsoe - he will start declining before rest of the team will be ready to compete. Trade him for high draft pick or talented young player. Some options:
Bledsoe to Boston for Net's pick and expiring David Lee
or
Bledsoe to Utah for Exum and expiring Trevor Booker
or
Bledsoe to Los Angeles Kobies for their top 3 pick and expiring Hibbert
or
Bledsoe to NO for their pick and expiring Gordon
Trade the rest of our veterans too if somebody want them.

So we have 2 high draft picks, Booker, Warren, Len (Knight? Goodwin?). That's not a bad core. Focus on developing those player and developing team chemistry instead of winning games.

So which option do you prefer?

What kind of choice is that. One is impossible and the other inevitable.

Option C: We Never Made The Playoffs, Therefore We Haven't Stopped Rebuilding. Let's Keep Turning Our Asset Stash Into An Attempt At A Working Roster, With Our Top 5 Pick As The Chief Focus Of The Roster, Until We Have A Roster That Works.

Looks we are unanimous here :P Let's hope $arver and McD don't think otherwise.

Maybe better question would be: do you think Suns should trade Bledsoe for pick/young player?
