When this thread was started I thought there would be a rumor about Sarver selling the team and the new owner wanting to move the team to Seattle. Man was I disappointed

Stay in Phoenix with Sarver. It's not even a remotely tough decision for me. I'll be crushed if the Suns ever leave town.

There is no way this team will stay in Phoenix with a new owner. I just can't see it happening. I guess you would rather have Sarver destroying this franchise. I would be fine with the team moving if that meant a new owner.

The Suns would become the new version of the Seattle SuperSonics. Then in twenty or thirty years, they would demand that taxpayers fund yet another new arena. When taxpayers refuse, the franchise would entice the city of Phoenix into building a new arena, relocate to the team's original city, and again become the Suns.

Twenty or thirty years after that, they would then return to Seattle.

Remember, a few months ago, we almost saw the Oakland Raiders become the Los Angeles Raiders—for the second time in thirty-five years! And it still could happen ...

We of course also saw the Los Angeles Rams become the St. Louis Rams and now, twenty-one-years later, become the Los Angeles Rams again (originally they were the Cleveland Rams). The San Diego Chargers were originally the Los Angeles Chargers and could become the Los Angeles Chargers again.

And do not discount the possibility of Sarver and the NBA turning the Phoenix Suns into the San Diego Suns.

If Sarver threatens to move the team, I could see Jerry Colangelo putting together a group of investors just to try and keep the franchise in Phoenix. And Colangelo does hold sway with the NBA ...

If they left there wouldn't really be a franchise, so....

I've never heard of a Suns fan who would prefer the Suns to leave with a different owner instead of stay with the same owner. Kind of blows my mind.

Even though the franchise is in a bad way, I still enjoy going downtown a few times a year and catching a game with friends and family. Losing that wouldn't be worth the Suns being good under a different owner somewhere else.

The Suns leaving PHX would be crushing. I can't trust a dude that says he wants to see his hometown team leave. I'd take never winning a 'ship over moving the team!

I hope Sarver makes that threat so Colangelo can get this franchise back. It would be a dream come true.

If the choice is between San Diego and Phoenix I choose Phoenix.

If the choice is between anywhere and Phoenix, I choose Phoenix. It will be an terrible day for Phoenix if* the Suns ever leave us. Rob Sarver is bad, but not having a team in* Phoenix would be the absolute worst.

Off the floor, Sarver has made surprising noise about wanting a new arena. Their current building, which opened in 1992, has been popular with fans and is extraordinarily convenient because of nearby light-rail stations.

The Suns' owner makes the case that the building will be the NBA's second-oldest when the lease expires in 2021-22 and that "it's becoming obsolete in terms of . . . loading docks, storage, technology." The arena is the NBA's smallest -- 550,000 square feet -- and new arenas are between 650,000 and 850,000 square feet, he says.

Further, owners and the NBA front office prefer new buildings, he says.

The idea would be to have a new arena in a new location ready to go after the '21-22 season. The new arena would be in a different location "because the site we have right now is too small. And it would be far too disruptive to try to relocate our team to, say, Glendale for two or three years while we built a new arena."

Sarver's preference is to keep the team downtown. "If that's not an option, then just to stay in metropolitan Phoenix.

"It won't be easy to do," he acknowledges. "But I think we'll get it done over time."

That Sarver, who operates according to five-year plans, is talking up a new arena is significant in that he intends to stay as lead owner for the foreseeable future.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, while not wanting to negotiate in public, appears to support the concept. Stanton says, "As mayor, I am fully committed to making sure the Phoenix Suns will be in downtown Phoenix. They are a thriving part of our downtown."
