Phoenix Suns not renewing Corey Gaines and Bob Hill

Post#1 » by Saberestar » Fri May 6, 2016 12:01 am

The Suns kept the same coach at the top but the staff will have a different look with the team opting not to renew four members’ contracts for next season.

Suns assistant coaches Corey Gaines and Bob Hill were informed Wednesday that their expiring contracts will not be renewed. Player development assistant Irving Roland and assistant video coordinator Ross Geiger also will not return to the Suns staff for Earl Watson’s first full season as head coach. All of the staff’s contracts will expire June 30 but the others will be renewed.

Assistant coach Nate Bjorkgren is the only assistant coach who will be retained from last season’s original staff other than Watson. Bjorkgren, a former D-League head coach, and Watson were in their first seasons with the Suns. Player development assistants Jason Fraser and Chris Darnell and video coordinator Bret Burchard, who took on an expanded bench role, also will return.

Crazy. Thought Gaines deserved the job.

Irv Roland as well the Suns won't keep. Another one close with the players. Very interested to see who joins Watson.

Maybe they just want a fresh start with new personnel?

Yeah, I think that Watson wants a new start with his own personnel.

I like that Bjorkgren is gonna be here because he looked like a very competent coach last summer league.

This is actually very good
Great assistants actually do all the dirty work now.

Bob Hill's signing was a joke from the start.

Lon babby has parted ways with us as well. Truly a dark day in suns history.

That sucks, I liked Lon. I thought he said all the right things. His biggest issue was the fact he was brought into a role he had no experience in and unsurprisingly failed in. But he took responsibility for his actions and ended on a good note hiring one of the best candidates for the job as GM.

... except that Hill evidently was Watson's guy—his former head coach and mentor in Seattle.

my perception on Corey Gaines is based on my experience as a Mercury fan.

i have never been so frustrated with a basketball coach before in my life. in fact, i probably have literally never been dissatisfied with a head coach before bc WTF do I know about coaching. the answer to that rhetorical question: I know that I don't like Corey Gaines as a head coach.
