Trading that for 5 years of Millsap makes no sense either as he's either a $23m bench player or Chriss and Bender are on the bench for 5 years.

The only way I could see it work, is if we trade our under 23s and picks for a top 10 player and we go all in.

You do realize that just because you get a player on a 5 year deal doesnt mean that you HAVE to keep that player for 5 years, right? So your whole logic of "He's either a $23m bench player or Chriss and Bender are on the bench for 5 years." has absolutely no bearing whatsoever.

Here I go: First off Milsap may push the Suns into the playoffs. The only possible perspective I could see from Mc D's vantage point is as follows. The Suns make the playoffs with Milsap which may make next years free-agents say "well the Suns made the playoffs with Milsap and I am a far superior player than Milsap, furthermore not only am I a far superior player I can bring my good buddy Johnny with me".

We know Milsap will opt out next year with the cap going up again because some team will blow their roll all over him. So the Suns will still have max cap space to sign two free agents. Remember this is the last year of Mc D's contract so Sarver may have threatened him in regards to job security relating to the playoffs. Regardless of all this I think McD is just investigating his options as he knows Atlanta has to get rid of Millsap in order to sign Horford. I seriously doubt that a protected pick gets it done but if McD can get Millsap without giving up significant assets in order to push for the playoffs he may do that to appease Sarver.

Cap situation for the year after (assuming just picks for Millsap):

Millsap 25, Len 16, Bledsoe 14, Knight 14, Chandler 13, Dudley 10, Chriss 3, Bender 2, Booker 2, Warren 2, Ulis 1
= 11 players $103m.

How is Chriss higher than Bender?

Also the 2017-2018 cap is expected to be $108M.

Just a guess.

Gambo has been spot on with everything the past few weeks.

He said Dudley would sign with us once Teletovic was off the board, and said he thinks if we target someone expensive it'll be through trade not FA and was told it's a 20% chance (probably Millsap).

If Millsap becomes a bench player because Bender or Chriss outplays him, there is a reason for it. And if one or two 20 year old players outplay a 34 year old vet, that means you have a 34 year old player making $23mil who is DONE. You dont have to keep him, but who would trade for him?

If Millsap goes to the bench over a 20 year old, that means Millsap is old....and is so overpayed you have to trade assets just to get rid of him.

I said earlier....Millsap gets the suns a little better for a year or two....and by the time the kids are ready to take over, he becomes a liability. So why trade for him in the first place.

Millsap would be just another TC in 2 years.....and most people here feel like TC just doesnt fit with this roster.

If Horford goes, it's all mute.

It is weird though that McDonough can pull out either a rebuilding or contending move at any time at the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

Tanking and Trading Morris (and stuff) for 2 top 10 picks, but targetting Tyson Chandler and Paul Millsap before and after.

I still like Michael Kidd-Gilchrist if we do anything, whatever you offer for Millsap I'd rather it for him, we need an elite SF defender at some point and they're hard to find, especially young with improvement and on reasonable salary, yes there are doubts but that's why he'd be gettable.

I can't believe the Jazz got Joe Johnson. I was certain JJ was ring chasing, but even if he wasn't I never would have thought he'd end up in Utah.
Also, why did Dwight choose the Hawks? Did they really impress him that much? Glad he's on the East now though, any way we can water down the West a bit is fine by me.

Hayward to the Suns, Milsap back to UTA, picks and TPE to ATL. UTA gets to compete, PHX gets their man, ATL gets cap space to sign Horford to pair with Howard and maybe grab Rondo.

Bled/Knight/Hayward/Dudley/Chandler
Hill/Hood/Johnson/Milsap/Gobert (trade Favors separately, maybe?)
Schroeder/Korver/Bazemore/Horford/Howard- ouch! that lineup will be a lot to handle in the East. They could use a PG better than Schroeder though.

This is why I think a Knight for Milsap swap makes sense. Hawks need a PG, Suns need a starting power forward.

Hawks just traded Teague because Schroeder was ready to take over. The only reason it makes sense for the Hawks is that they could lose Millsap for nothing next offseason OR it would probably take a crapload of money to keep him. Same for us. Think of how HE would get next summer. He'd get that same deal we were talking about with Hayward. Starting out at $33 million or so.
