Nashty & Cactus: Game 9 @ Knicks

Post#1 » by batsmasher » Sat Nov 4, 2017 1:44 am

Standings

How it works
Spoiler:
After each Suns game, an MVP thread will be opened for you to vote for your top 3 players. These threads can be created by anyone, as long as there isn't currently a thread for that game.

Anyone can vote for the 3-2-1 (including other fans from other forums) but you can only vote for the Suns players (or coach).

3 votes to who you think was a the best Suns player.
2 for the second best
and 1 for the 3rd best.

**EDIT: as of January something-or-other 2017, you can now distribute votes for the Nashty and Cactus however you please. You have a total of 6 votes to give out, but now you have the freedom to do what you want with those 6. The only condition which applies is no more than 3 votes can be given to one player (or coach) in either award. **

In the event of a Suns loss, you are also encouraged to vote for the Cactus of the game:

-3 votes for the player most responsible for the loss
-2 votes for the second most responsible
-1 for the third most responsible

Any votes with more than 3 players listed and not in the required format will not count. Voting will close before the start of the next Suns game.

After the thread closes, the votes will be tallied. The highest scoring total Sun gets 3 points, the next 2, and the third gets 1 point towards their season total. In the event of a tie in a count for a game, if the result of the game is a Suns win, a maximum of 4 players will be awarded points. A tie in the event of a loss will only result in a maximum of 3 players getting awarded points.

The player with the highest total at season's end wins the award!

The same applies for the Cactus of the Year, although of course the lowest tally at year's end takes it.

+6 Booker

Booker is the only guy that deserves any positive for this game.

-1 Chriss
-2 Ulis
-3 James

Chriss fouls way too much and got dominated by Porzingis, Ulis and James didn't even out play Jarrett Jack.

+3 Book: Would've been a BRUTAL game without him. Love his ability to get to the line.
+2 Tyson: Seemed to have a good presence for the team when he was on the court? Just trying to find someone lol
+1 JJ: Eh. Was hit or miss throughout the night, but ultimately a positive I'd say

-2 Chriss: Such a bonehead, man
-2 Ulis: :/
-2 James: Hero-ball James, baby

Other Notes:
+: Kudos to Jay for keeping us in this one mentally-- had the makings of a REAL blowout at the beginning
+: I thought Dragan actually played alright defense on Porzingis?? Felt like his -29 was reeeeal bad luck. As soon as he was on the court it was like every Knicks player was on fire from 3 for some reason
(): Good god I hope we never have to face Porzingis in the playoffs at any point during his career. I am terrified of him.
-: Return of the mystery head injury :( Aside: He was playing like utter garbage when it happened. TJ can have great games, but when he's playing like he was today it really bums me out. I think, for me at least, he will forever be an enigma.

+3 Booker
+2 Bender
+1 Jackson

-3 James
-3 Uliss

Could not execute on either end. Thought they played hard.

Booker is a couple years away from being a perennial all star. He is learning how to be consistent game in and game out. Very impressed.

+10 Chriss

Please keep playing this bootleg Morris twin against KP.

+3 Booker - Tough not having TJ to share the offensive load but he stayed efficient.
+1 JJ - I thought he had a good game off the bench but he needs to watch his fouls. Zero TO's is nice to see. Need a bit more rebounding from him.
+1 Chandler - Played fairly well against a much younger, more athletic and MVP level offensive player in KP
+1 James - say what you want about another stinker of a shooting night, he still pushed the ball, dropped 8 dimes on zero TO's and 3 steals. Finished with a +7.

-3 Ulis - It just wasn't his night. Even against the 2nd unit, he couldn't lead his team back.
-3 Chriss - Rebounded well but there were just too many low BBIQ plays out there. Giving up easy fouls when we need you on the court just isn't smart.

Notes:
- As I mentioned in the game thread, Bender probably got some valuable experience defending KP. He's probably a top 5 big man in the league right now and even though Bender got torched, KP probably would've torched anyone that night. Bender still played solid positional defense, he moved well laterally and he was probably our best bet against KP.
- Losing TJ early in the game hurt. To anyone that said he wasn't playing well anyway and it wouldn't have made a difference clearly haven't watched his 20/11 and 40/10 performance where he exploded in the 2nd half.
- I liked Triano's rotations. He stuck with Bender on KP even when KP was going off and I didn't mind it because it was a great learning experience for Bender. The fact that we lost TJ early and we were still competitive for most of the game shows how well we adjust under Triano. Had we still been under Watson, I think we would've been blown out early even with a healthy TJ.
