That’s not how it works. He would still be considered as being on the Phoenix Suns roster if we sent him to the G League because his contract is on our payroll, and our problem was having too many active players on payroll with both Canaan and James for Booker to come back, so they chose Canaan. At this point Mike is probably either looking for another NBA team, a two-way contract with another team, a G League team to sign with, or an opportunity out of the US.

Similar reason to why we didn’t just let Danuel House go to make room: he’s on a two-way contract that isn’t counted towards the Suns’ salary cap, so releasing him wouldn’t have counted toward anything for Bookers’ return.
