There have been times this year where I've said "okay, Len is earning his money. I'd be down to sign him to a nice little 3 year, $40 million deal this offseason before he bolts"

And then there are games like last night.

I do think he's worth about $10-12 million. But so is Tyson. And so is Moose. But combined those three are probably worth about... $15 million.

I'm back to Tyson/Sauce/Draftee for next year. Happy to make that Len/Sauce/Draftee or even Monroe/Sauce/Draftee, but trading Chandler for nothing will probably be harder than just letting Len and Moose go.

Apparently you didn't watch that pairing last year as a significant number of Ulis assists went to Williams. Here you go ... please read

Na, I'll skip it. Scouting reports caught Ulis. He looked great last year for about 20 games or so. He's looked abysmal this year. I don't expect that too change much. He just doesn't have the size, nor the shooting to do much damage in this league currently. If he either doesn't get on that heavy gas put on some weight to create space, as well as polish his shot quite a bit, he'll be out of the league before too long.

I agree Ulis is not starter material. Just gets taken advantage of by bigger, stronger guards. The fact that he has lost both his shooting and assist rate over those 20 games you mentioned is a head scratcher. Last year, at the tail end of the season, he was putting up very, very good numbers ... 16 points and 8.5 assists as a starter. Don't forget that was done mostly with Williams on the floor who was a beneficiary of many assists. He and Williams off the bench would still be better than what we have now.

In my bias opinion, I really believe that some here and the coaches are taking JJ out to the woodshed a little too frequently and everyone else gets a free pass. Josh played like he gave a damn in the first half and the Suns were winning, then Josh doesn’t see the floor again until mid 4th quarter after playing like **** became contagious. They love to put JJ in poor situations in a lot of games (the I don’t give a **** time), and expect him to show outstanding play when everyone else has check out.

Ulis stays on the court and looks like pure trash, tons of free passes for this guy.....He starts for Christ sakes!! Daniels has played like trash for a while now and still gets time. But JJ, Nah, if he isn’t a god, put him in the G league or keep him on he bench....whatever.

Learn how to develop players.....the right players. Ulis is sickening to watch.

If anyone who should be getting a long rope to play through it, it’s JJ, the 4th pick in the draft who plays hard ALL TIME. Some of the criticism he gets here is mind blowing. He needs to get better but G league?!? Smh...

JJ looked good in the 4th. He had good chemistry with Bender who set him up pretty well with some nice passes.

If we decided to sign him no more than like 3/25. The market will be very soft for centers of his ilk.

I think the benching was deserved. JJ keeps going out there trying to make this his break-out game - likely, I expect, in defiance of the instructions of the coaching staff. He doesn't get it. Tatum just fits in, lets the game come to him. Mitchell doesn't, but every player is different. JJ needs to focus on defense, run the offense and reduce turnovers to a minimum. He does that, he'll get minutes, and the offense will come.

Yes, the benching seemed to have a good impact because he looked a lot better last night.

Exactly. It's his career M.O.. Would not want him back unless it's at backup money.

Dude can't hit an open shot and he shoots a lot (3rd on the team in FGA per100). He turns the ball over (tied 2nd with Ulis) and his defense has been largely pedestrian with only rare flashes of elite. I agree he should see some G league time but the time he's getting right now in the NBA is about right. He's just trying to do too much out there and he's not ready.

I agree with you about Ulis but unlike our SF position which has a TJ Warren, the current talent difference between Ulis and Canaan isn't night and day. Ulis has to play because we can't (nor would we want to) play Canaan 40mpg. It is what it is with the roster we have until they either play better or we make moves.

With Booker as his rabbi he will have a place with the Suns for a while. But I agree generally. He isn't more than a third guard without some major improvements.

It's a major flaw when your game sucks if you're not paired up with a particular undrafted player. I don't care for the correlation between Williams being out and Ulis's suckage because that just reinforces the point that he really isn't that good.

“JJ” is gonna be held to higher standards than Ulis because he was a top 4 pick in the draft which is a huge investment where Ulis was drafted with a pick that could’ve been bought or sold for just $$.

And you don’t see the irony in that? Shouldn’t JJ get to play vs Ulis....especially when Ulis hurts us more than JJ.

Pretty sure he doesn't. JJ's turnovers and bricks are often what kills us. The second unit started to take off not only because Canaan replaced James, but because JJ went to the first unit and later got benched.
