Game 65: Nashty & Cactus vs ATL

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Sun Mar 4, 2018 11:04 pm

Standings

How it works
Spoiler:
After each Suns game, an MVP thread will be opened for you to vote for your top 3 players. These threads can be created by anyone, as long as there isn't currently a thread for that game.

Anyone can vote for the 3-2-1 (including other fans from other forums) but you can only vote for the Suns players (or coach).

3 votes to who you think was a the best Suns player.
2 for the second best
and 1 for the 3rd best.

**EDIT: as of January something-or-other 2017, you can now distribute votes for the Nashty and Cactus however you please. You have a total of 6 votes to give out, but now you have the freedom to do what you want with those 6. The only condition which applies is no more than 3 votes can be given to one player (or coach) in either award. **

In the event of a Suns loss, you are also encouraged to vote for the Cactus of the game:

-3 votes for the player most responsible for the loss
-2 votes for the second most responsible
-1 for the third most responsible

Any votes with more than 3 players listed and not in the required format will not count. Voting will close before the start of the next Suns game.

After the thread closes, the votes will be tallied. The highest scoring total Sun gets 3 points, the next 2, and the third gets 1 point towards their season total. In the event of a tie in a count for a game, if the result of the game is a Suns win, a maximum of 4 players will be awarded points. A tie in the event of a loss will only result in a maximum of 3 players getting awarded points.

The player with the highest total at season's end wins the award!

The same applies for the Cactus of the Year, although of course the lowest tally at year's end takes it.

+3 Warren
+2 Payton
+1 Chriss

-3 Chandler
-2 Booker
-1 Daniels

I don't think anyone else played particuarly poorly, despite us losing to the Hawks. Daniels didn't even play THAT bad. But Bender, despite not shooting well, had 8 assists with 0 turnovers and 5 boards, which was good to see.

Jackson played decent except the turnovers, Shaq has great D.

Chandler looked a little rusty, but I'm not going to dock him on his first game back.

+2 Warren - good and efficient scoring game. Wish he did a little more rebounding and passing though.
+2 Payton - the two ejections were a bit unreasonable imo but 11/10/14 is hard to argue against. 2nd triple double 9 games
+1 Chriss - gotta give him some love for a productive game off the bench. Blocks and 3's looked awesome
+1 Shaq - gonna give him some love too for contributing in the little minutes he had during a critical stretch. 5 rebounds and a couple of assists in 13 minutes is what you want from a young guy on a ten day'er.

Notes
- didn't want to give Bender a Nashty or a cactus because while his 2 for 8 performance sucks and he was passing off otherwise good scoring opportunities, he did drop 8 dimes on zero turn overs.
- Jackson had an underwhelming game after a streak of rookie year defining games but not worth giving a Cactus to his name.
- Was Chandler playing just to show Silver that we're "not" tanking even though he was our tank commander tonight (-11)? I see no reason why he should be playing at this point.

-1 Bender
-1 Booker
-2 Chandler... never, ever leaves the paint to help on the P&R. Simply not acceptable in the modern NBA. If it weren't for his pedigree, he wouldn't crack the L playing defense like this.

Jackson had a good first half. Eddie was great today. Had me rolling with the bank robber references.

Edit: Just wanted to note that had Chriss been able to keep playing after getting crushed with an elbow to the skull in the third, he could have been a +3. He was nailing his threes and blocking everything. Looked incredible out there. I also noticed that on one play when he was pushed into a defender and the whistle blew, he threw his hand up to accept the foul. But the refs called it (correctly) an offensive foul on Plumlee. Chriss wasn't even thinking about complaining.

HUGE turnaround yesterday for Marquese. I hope he keeps it going.

And P.S. Troy Daniels needs to call Bender out again for not taking open shots. And Booker needs to pass him the ball when he's open at the 3 point line rather than taking tough, contested fadeaway 2s. Come on, dude. Even Kobe didn't hog the ball that much until after he'd won 3 championships.
