I think when Doncic and Ayton go 1/2 then there is a pretty good chance we would take Trae Young at 3. I'd be fine with that selection as I value Bagley, Porter, and Trae all about equally from 3-5 with Trae obviously filling the biggest positional need.

Seriously though?

I feel way more confident with Payton at PG than I do Chandler at C or Chriss at PF - which means positional need is PF or C.

Young reminds me too much of Trey Burke, I just don't see him being more than a Burke/DJ Augustin type, but I hope I'm wrong.

And let's be honest, Vivak will take Young without a doubt!

Ayton, Bagley, Doncic - one of those 3. Doncic isn't necessarily positional need, but he's an elite talent who has superstar upside with good size.

My predictions are we nab Ayton at 1 or 2, then throw a max at Aaron Gordon...With Fizdale as coach!

Yeah I think center and PF is a bigger concern because Suns have terrible options at the moment.

Also a motivated Payton is not a bad option... And my assumption is that if the team is competitive his effort will also be competitive... As per usual with players playing for something.

I was thinking more from a Ryan McDonough perspective of not wanting to give up on Bender/Chriss. I do think currently PF is our weakest position but it is not the biggest need. PG is way more important and frankly I just don’t see Payton being on the team next year. I’d rather save the cap space and start Knight.

You still have Porter 3rd/Young 4th?

We better not be keeping Payton. There are no good FA point guards out there. PG was by far our biggest problem this year. I think it's much easier to find bigs in FA.

Though I guess if you think he's gonna be Trey Burke then he's not worth a high pick.

I hope we dont trade the pick unless its for Leonard and only then depending on what else we had to give up, AD isn't realistic
Draft order preference for me is probably Ayton, Doncic, then whoever the Suns grade highest of jackson, Porter and bagley and the other two of that threesome after that then Young

Young dropped behind JJJ as well. He just doesn't have much of a future as a defender. JJJ can affect both sides of the ball. Bagley is a good 1-on-1 defender, despite his switching deficiencies. Porter could be a versatile defender as well, and Ayton hes such tremendous physical tools it's hard to imagine him not being a plus defender in a few years. Trae is at 6 on my big board atm.

This line of thought is dangerous. Firstly, you are thinking in strict positions rather than skills. We don't need a PF and a C, we need shooting and defense (both perimeter and rim protection).

Second, we should always draft thinking who would improve our team the most, not who would fill the biggest hole. It's not the same thing. Improving your biggest weakness marginally might not lead to more wins than improving your best strength.

With that in mind, your choices of Ayton or Bagley fill a position, but hardly fill a need in terms of defense and even shooting. Young to me has waaaaay more impact on our team by scoring and opening up lanes by replacing "just-ok" Payton than Bagley or Ayton replacing Chriss or Chandler (specially cause I haven't given up on Bender or Chriss yet)
