One thing we should all keep in mind here - winning percentage corresponds pretty strongly with the amount of time your team has spent together. The closer we move towards overhaul, the harder it will be to put together a competitive team.

That is not true IMO.

The most important thing is to make the right decisions.

Look at the Rockets...they traded for Paul and they gave up about five players just to get him.

They changed a lot of players for two consecutive years, and they are the best team in the NBA right now.

The Celtics....the same. And there are more and more examples.

This will be a good thread to return to after we see our draft position, and more guys declare for the draft.

I like a lot of our guys for different reasons. If TJ worked hard on rebounding and defense, I wouldn’t mind him as a small ball PF. With Williams starting to be healthy, I’d like to keep him.

Overall, if we get the number one pick, I’d like to keep it and Booker. After that, if the right deal comes along I wouldn’t be upset who we move. Second tier would be Bender, Jackson, and Warren. After that, let them fight for a position with our upcoming draft picks.

I still have a desire to see Reed after this summer. I think with the right effort, he could be a solid bench player. I don’t know if it was trouble returning after the injury or if he just isn’t ready for the NBA, but he didn’t play the same as he did in the summer.

It will also be interesting to see what Knight does. If he is truly humbled by sitting a whole year out, he could make a decent bench guard, who could slide into either position if needed.

everything is subject to change depending on draft and free agency.. but for me the young guys that were drafted mainly on potential get more time . at least one more year' So for me, Booker, Jackson, Bender,Chriss and Warren get another year barring a big trade for better pieces, others i woud like to see back are Harrison, Ulis, Williams and even Len who i know is likely gone.. I just see no point to trade young flawed players just for the sake of trading them for other payers with flaws just because some of us as fans get frustrated by their development or are tired of seeing the Suns lose... even though that was completely by design this year

If we don't get Ayton who what are we doing with the C spot?

Len seems like he wants to move on from Phoenix and Alan Williams is not a starter.

A couple of mid level free agents who I love are Ed Davis and Derrick Favors.

Doncic | Knight
Booker | Daniels
Jackson | Warren
Bender | Chriss
Davis/Favors | Chandler

Plus whatever we get with #16 and (if we get it) #17. Wouldn't hate it.

Step 1 - Keep our young core players

Booker, Jackson, Warren, Chriss, Bender, 2018 Rookie top pick

Step 2 - Keep any player that is a decent three point shooter (.360 or better)

Daniels, Dudley

Step 3 - Renounce or stretch useless players

Chandler (stretch), Len (renounce), Payton (renounce)

Step 4 - Trade for or sign four starter quality veterans that shoot well and play defense
Use any of our non-core players
Use any of our 2018 draft picks except top pick
Use future Miami pick
Use protected future Suns picks

Step 5 - Invite to camp on make good contracts players that are left from

Ulis, Harrison, House, Reed, Peters, Cannan, Williams, 2018 second round picks

Solid plan, no doubt about it.

I wouldn't trade that unprotected Miami pick. You should never trade unprotected future picks IMO.

You'd think McD learned his lesson with that. If he did he should at least attach protection on it (or just say a team gets the lesser of the Miami pick and our pick in 2021).

That 2021 pick is gold. Players who are worth that pick in exchange generally are not available in trade.

Well you could have said the same about the Lakers pick we traded for Knight.

I guess I'd be okay trading the MIA pick for a "near" all-star if on the same day I could trade TJ for two unprotected firsts. We could double our gold! :D

I know, I know, we could have simply traded Dragic. Maybe. I think things were more complicated - after all, we were first interested in trading Dragic for Knight straight up. What we did, we did five minutes before the deadline. Considering the context, I simply don't think McD failed to value the LAL pick.

I think McD figured the Lakers were going to make a big splash in FA that following summer and that pick was going to end up in the teens in the 2016 draft. That didn't happen and frankly McD got kind of lucky that the Lakers were so bad it didn't convey. IF the Lakers spot doesn't move up in the lotto this year then McD will have kind of dodged a bullet in that regard. Hell if Knight would have given them 80% of what they hoped for from him then trading the 10 pick in this years draft would have been OK value. The problem is Knight has been terrible beyond even his biggest skeptics wildest dreams. He was literally one of if not the worst rotation player in the league last year by some advanced stats...
