they can still trade the pick if some team is content to wait on it a year...protection is more favorable but reportedly weaker draft... might be better if it conveys two years from now

If we trade it, Giannis will get hurt for the entire year and the pick will end up being #4

wow

What “wow”? If the Bucks get a half decent HC this summer then that pick will never be better than like the mid 20s imo. Only reason they sucked so bad this season is because of Kidd and his main assistant Prunty screwing up the team for them.

Ah well.

I am well aware of that, but trading the #17 pick in a great draft (and being able to package it with the #16) is a hell of a lot better (And more splashier to the receiving team) than what is most likely going to be a later pick in a ho-hum draft.

Look, New coach, team fully together from the get go, full offseason with Bledsoe/Parker, i just dont see the 2019 pick ending up any better than #17 this year, not to mention the next draft is very lackluster.

It at least should have been 18-30 since we also owned the 2nd if they had the 48th-60th pick. It looked like the trade was designed to give us a 1st OR if it didn't convey we'd get a 2nd, but if it landed at 17/47 we wouldn't get either.

Actually it's a much more flexible trade asset now because they won't have to make the trade in June from a position of weakness in negotiations because teams know they won't want to use 3 first rounders.

Hell they might use it as a trade for one of the RFA's this summer. I'm not in favor of signing him but it would be hilarious if they traded it back to Milwaukee in a Parker S&T.

I like the odds moving it forward, even if they aren't the greatest.

So would you have been pleased with the 21st pick if protections and performance had played out that way?

This is a weird part of the trade. Not sure why the protection on the 2nd wasn't 47-60.

I truly think the Suns specifically did the first round protection because they didn't want that pick this year and wanted to bank it as a future asset.

Losing Bucks pick sucks but the most important is that we have our 4th pick!

Eh, thats a cop out answer, because it doesnt make us look weak when there would be PLENTY of other teams that would be willing to trade for the pick. We wouldnt be in a position of weakness, because the the demand would set the value for that pick.

It still comes down to #17 in a great draft or Most likely a pick AFTER #17 in a worse draft.

One small silver lining if we keep it and they barely miss the playoffs next year is that it could still be the 4th pick, since next year the lotto draw is for each of the top 4 picks instead of 3.

There is merit in this. I would have preferred getting it now because I would have liked to move up in this draft. But it is protected 1-3 and 17-30 next year. So the downside protection is the same next year. So what are the chances next year?

1. Milwaukee mgmt is not good. They are not good drafters (they lucked into Giannis and all their fans freely admit it).
2. They are getting a new coach this summer. They might want to blow it up some this summer.
3. Giannis body type and style of play will likely end to some significant injury at some point. I am not rooting for this, I just think it is likely.
4. There is more leverage in trading it because the Suns will not HAVE to trade it this year.

Yeah, I have no idea. That was just stupid.

I am aware of that, and why are you replying to that in this thread that i locked like 20 minutes ago and not in the new one?

Well I responded right after you posted here so you could fix the OP title in that thread and didn't do it in the new thread since it didn't add much to the thread and figured a post that didn't add much to a thread is better to be in a locked dead thread instead of one of the first posts of a new one. But then I later noticed someone pointed it out there anyway.
