Kerrsed wrote:Ok, ive thought long and hard on it and......i still dont know when it comes to KAT.

Look, last year we would have been creaming in our pants at the opportunity to get him, but the #1 overall pick changes things immensely.

Lets weigh out the Pro's and Con's.

PRO's
One of the best young bigs in the league.
Booker Bro #1
Will give us 20/10 pretty much every night
Good passer for a C
Great FT shooter for a C
Has 3 point range
Really no injury history
Has shown he belongs in the NBA (Isnt a bust)

CON's
Defense is suspect (And was so under one of the top defensive coaches)
Expecting a big payday (Just like Booker) on last year of rookie deal
Ayton is pretty much the same exact player, but more athletic and on a rookie contract
Judging from the experts, would cost us more than the #1 (Jackson;Maybe another pick)
New big money contract comes at the same time as Bookers new big money contract.
Doesnt have the built in UofA fanbase like Ayton (Not a con to me, but definitely to the FO and UofA Booster Sarver)
Cost (Yes im bringing it up again because its a big deal)

I seriously dont know if i could do it. Ayton gives us a more athletic version of the same exact player, but on a new contract that costs less and would be under our control for longer. And what would the Wolves be asking for? It starts at the #1 and would include players like Jackson and Bender or Warren. Probably another future pick thrown in as well. Is all that worth it when we can just draft Ayton and keep all those assets? But then again....for all we know Ayton could be a bust where we already know KAT isnt...but everyone says that Ayton is generational and has the lowest chance of being a bust. UGH!!!!

But what if it costs us less than what we are being told? When the Celtics name is brought up the trade being talked about is Brown/Tatum (or if Tatum is off the table) Brown/1st. If we could keep that top pick and Booker while giving up Jackson/#16/Warren/Future 1st would that = to the Celtics offer? WOuld that be worth it?

And who knows if KAT really is available? All thats really been said is that the Wolves fired his personal conditioning coach, so people are assuming that he isnt happy with that and in turn the Wolves arnt happy with him.

The more questions i answer the more questions appear.

The Wolves are not in panic mode and we aren't giving up the #1 pick. Don't forget most teams picking in this draft just started rebuilding.

Does Towns want to play for the Kings/Hawks/Grizzlies? Those teams won't be making the playoffs. Even the Mavericks are about to begin their rebuild post-Nowitzki.

EDIT: Forget to mention that we shouldn't blow our cap space right after we max out Booker.

JUst curious but why? Id 100% take the former with Kat AND the #1 pick. Two proven players vs one?

I know what KAT is, I would like to see Ayton can become. I love what I see from JJ, don't want to trade him. Plus, I get a solid pick at 16 or can make a trade with that asset. Also, there is something about players being Suns, home grown. I'm tired of hand me downs not name prime LBJ.

Big posting 54/42/86 splits
Not worthy the 1st pick

(...)

With the 1st pick of the 2018 Draft, the Phoenix Suns selects DeAndre Ayton

Given his relationship with Booker I couldn’t see McD turning that down. Towns is guaranteed to give you great production. Ayton’s ceiling is higher but the % of any prospect reaching his ceiling are slim and Ayton has question marks. Body wise they are two different specimens. Towns is strong but has a softer looking body. Seems like he has tooth pick legs compared to Ayton.

The money factor might impact Sarver’s decision. Are Booker and Towns destroying your cap worth it? Yes... but if you expect Devin to be a Sun for life than you’ll have to eventually pay another star while you’re paying Booker.

KAT is bird in the hand
If it’s between Ayton and KAT..... KAT all day. He’s exactly what McDoubletalk outlines as a may be trade

But if it’s Doncic we are leaning to, then think hard... on how to get both??? Probably not possible unless Luka goes bad and says Suns or No One. Would have to pry #3 from Atl

Ironic that JJ snags #1, then gets dealt??? That wouldn’t sit well. Keep him.

Suns get a center, then can trade 16/9, and whatever fillers they need up in the draft to draft young.

Knicks get #1 and a solid young big
Timberwolves- swap good young bigs BC there's is disgruntled

Young
Booker
Warren
Josh Jackson
Towns

That's a lineup that can do what the warriors did.

Not bad. Especially considering going into the lottery I would have been pretty happy with knowing we'd take Young at 3 or 4. But going into the lottery if I knew I'd come out of it with Young and Towns, well.....damn, how'd that happen?

This would probably never happen but I wish we do draft Ayton with the 1st pick and with Doncic not sure he wants to be in the NBA I hope teams pass on him until the 16 pick and then we draft him.

I like Doncic a lot but Ayton is more of a positional need... if booker has a say and chimes in (because our FO consults with him on decisions now) he says Ayton 100% .... that means something !

If it's up to Booker he would trade the #1 pick for Towns in a heartbeat.

WTF? Are you people insane? There's a reason why KAT was the top choice in the last 2 GM surveys for question which player to start a franchise with, ahead of Giannis, AD, Kawhi, Durant, Lebron, Curry etc.

In his 2nd year he averaged 25 and 12 on 62% TS. With a diminished role in his 3rd year he averaged 21/12 on 65% TS. He has never missed a game in his career. The Wolves are 13 points per 100 possessions better with him on the court. He's Booker's best friend. He would immediately make us one of the most exciting teams in the league.

Draft fever is a serious condition. There's maybe 5% chance that anyone from this draft will be as good as KAT.

Yeah but we didn't expect to get that superstar McD promised by trading the #1 pick. Right now I'm not really sure if I would trade it for KAT. I need some time to think :-?

there's far fetched pipe dreams and then there's this.. you seriously think he would be passed over 14 times for any reason? he could curse every team and put hexes on all their kids and someone would laugh and pick him anyway, likely 14 someones

I'm guessing the TWolves owner would nix any idea of a Towns trade and probably would fire Thibs before signing off on any trade involving KAT....it's a pretty educated guess.

Considering there is no empirical data supporting that 5% and Ayton is a 1% specimen with skills, I'll take those odds. Again, not a fan of KAT and his soft slight build. Give Ayton 3 years to add more mass, he'd break skinny ass Capela in two. Long against long equals push, but long against muscle and long equals that's yo ass! Ask Mutombo and every other tall skinny C Shaq smashed.

Ayton could carry 10-15lbs of more muscle like nothing. I have never in my life seen a guy coming into the league at 19 with that size and build. Go look at all of the greats when they were in college and compare them to Ayton, not close.

Ewing, Duncan, Robinson, Davis, Kat, Gobert, Kareem, no one, again look at the tape. Most freaks are just athletes but Ayton is more than that and basketball is still new to him. The Greak Freak was the same type of guy coming out, but skinny as hell too. He went 15.

I'm cool on KAT.

Give up Ayton and watch him become an inside and outside dominant beast for someone else, because we could not wait 2-3 years, no thank you.

Looking a gift horse in the mouth...Maybe that's why the Suns never had a great center or number one pick. The gods knew we'd just trade him away.

Return to Phoenix Suns
