He wasn't underappreciated, he just didn't fit the mold. He was/is a solid defender/junkyard dog type player for a playoff team, not a team like ours. He took away minutes from player who needed to be evaluated and he was destroying our tank. PJ is perfect for where he is now.
He was by some, but it did make sense to move him to clear way for the young guys, though if he would have taken a back seat in a vet role and could have still provided that energy when needed to maybe help us get to the playoffs, I would have been for it.
But coaches would inevitably play him over young guys because he played harder than anyone else. I understood the reason for moving on to let the young guys grow. Unfortunately we just ended up bringing in more expensive vets who may not have as much impact, particularly on defense where we need it to play in front of our young guys.
100, however, now we kind of have an idea about our young players. Booker, JJ, Bridges, Ayton and possibly Bender are the guys Ariza, Anderson, and Tyson are tutoring.
Back to your point. We do find a way of getting past their prime guys on our team. Once upon a time Ryan Anderson would have been fire for us.
I look at it this way; if we had done anything different in the past, we would not have Booker and Ayton on this team today. If those guys grow into the players they are capable of, then it was worth it. I actually have higher hopes for Mikal being the third guy than Josh.

I'm still on his and Bender's team though.
