Nashty & Cactus: Game 2 @ Denver

Post#1 » by batsmasher » Sun Oct 21, 2018 3:56 am

How it works

Spoiler:
Anyone can vote for the 3-2-1 (including other fans from other forums) but you can only vote for the Suns players (or coach).

3 votes to who you think was a the best Suns player.
2 for the second best
and 1 for the 3rd best.

**EDIT: as of January something-or-other 2017, you can now distribute votes for the Nashty and Cactus however you please. You have a total of 6 votes to give out, but now you have the freedom to do what you want with those 6. The only condition which applies is no more than 3 votes can be given to one player (or coach) in either award. **

In the event of a Suns loss, you are also encouraged to vote for the Cactus of the game:

-3 votes for the player most responsible for the loss
-2 votes for the second most responsible
-1 for the third most responsible

Any votes with more than 3 players listed and not in the required format will not count. Voting will close before the start of the next Suns game.

After the thread closes, the votes will be tallied. The highest scoring total Sun gets 3 points, the next 2, and the third gets 1 point towards their season total. In the event of a tie in a count for a game, if the result of the game is a Suns win, a maximum of 4 players will be awarded points. A tie in the event of a loss will only result in a maximum of 3 players getting awarded points.

The player with the highest total at season's end wins the award!

The same applies for the Cactus of the Year, although of course the lowest tally at year's end takes it.

NASHTY

+3 Bridges : his true debut and he did everything he's expected to do and he did it very well. We went on a mini run every time he was in the game and that shows in the box score plus/minus. He hit his shots, made nice passes, grabbed rebounds, logged a couple steals, attacked the close outs and he didn't turn the ball over. Perfect game for a rookie without putting up a crazy statline imo

+2 TJ : shooters shoot and that's what he's changing in his game. Small sample size but he's averaging close to 5 attempts a game from the 3PT line and whether he gets it in or not, I want him to keep it at this level. He has a nice stroke, he's shoots it very well from the FT line and that should translate to him hitting 1 or 2 a game.

+1 Canaan : it's nice to have a PG that is a steady hand, can hit the 3 and control tempo. I mentioned this already in the tread but he's not a high level PG, he's probably better as a back up 1 but given his talent, he's playing to expectations and he's fine as a stop gap option

CACTUS
-2 Jackson
: I didn't like the way he played offensively. I still feel don't like him trying to create his own shot and I don't like that he complicates things when he has the ball in his hands. In the beggining he made a couple mistakes just being unsure on whether to pass or shoot on a PnR and ended up just throwing up a weird floater thing. He's thinking too much, he's thinking too far ahead and he's thinking of doing things on the court which his current skill set and experience doesn't allow him to do successfully. Just be like Bridges, take the catch and shoot opportunities, make the simple pass when they are there and play great D. That's all he's gotta do and the opportunities to do more will come

-2 Ariza : didn't have a good game. Game worse -47 (how??) and he didn't shoot the ball well but for whatever reason, I'm not particularly frustrated or annoyed with how he played. He pretty much just does what he's always done playing defense, taking the shots when they are there and moving the ball around. His defense wasn't great but still better the most of this roster. This was a subpar game for him but he's a vet and he'll find other ways to do better next time. What I did like seeing was him showing his frustration to some of the young guys when they missed defensive assignments or made mistakes, he's exactly the type of player who I want out there putting the guys in line.

-1 Booker : I do like that he's simplifying his offensive game by either taking the 3, taking it to the hoop or drawing fouls. His shooting wasn't there today but he still managed to draw 17 fouls so his 25pts on 15 shots actually looks efficient. But he was just sloppy with the ball tonight, he made some terribly telegraphed passes which were picked off and his D was horrendous. And of course when momentum was starting to turn, he loses composure and picks up a T. Gotta be smarter than that young fella

-1 Chandler : should be 3rd C in the depth chart

HM
Igor - had some odd rotations today. Took Bridges out when he was doing well??
Ayton - didn't wanna be too harsh on him even though he had a bad game but he was going up against imo a top 3 big in the league, who's just smarter, more experienced and more skilled than him at this point. Having an iffy ankle didn't help either

+3 Mikal and +3 to TJ for me. -2 for Koko, -2 for Ariza, and -2 for Tyson.

Everyone will at some point have a bad game - it's up to Koko to recognize it and adjust accordingly. It's early, he's experimenting with lineups, hopefully good rotation patterns start to emerge.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.
