RunDog, don't you understand the basic tradeoff/sacrifice between shot volume and shot efficiency/field goal percentage? Of course you take the sharpshooting marksman Shamet who can stroke it from deep on a high clip with a blistering percentage than a low sample 12th man who's one year of good output could have been a flukey aberration and not replicable. Shamet is undeniably an upgrade over Galloway by a considerable margin. I would still liked to have kept the 29th pick to net us Ayo, Butler or Queta.

Ha, this isn't a Shamet vs Galloway argument from my stand point, it is wasting the 29th pick on a guy we don't need in Shamet. And you agree with that, because you would rather have kept the pick for a guy like Ayo, Butler, or Queta on the bench.

This was a bad trade. It is not horrible, but still bad. Now on the Nets side, they turned an ok shooter lacking defensively, for a bulldog defender, who is not great at running an offense, and a decent big in Sharpe. And they didn't lose any of the picks they had.

But those guys wouldn't have cracked the rotation in the playoffs and would barely sniff the court in the regular season. You can never have enough shooter and Shamet coming off the bench to spell Book will be dynamite pairing with Payne

I don't mind the player Shamet is, but he doesn't change the needle either, and simply not worth both Carter and the #29 pick. We had better shooters deep on our bench we chose not to use. The need is defensive bigs that can give Ayton ten minutes of rest. I think we could have gotten that with the 29th pick. Plus try and get a vet big. Use the vet big and Ayton to get the rookie and Stix ready. I don't know how Shamet and Payne will look off the bench. We don't even know if we will retain Payne, or if he will get a better offer elsewhere. So I am a bit concerned if Shamet is really Payne's replacement if he leaves. I don't like the cost of the draft pick, for what we got in return. We will see how the FA period goes. If we can really shore up the problems in the front court, I guess the pick won't matter much. But then the question for me is would I rather have Shamet or Ayo.

Outside of Paul, Booker, and Payne we didn't have another player on the team that proved adept at initiating last year. It seemed to really hurt us in the Bucks series.

Shamet is a shovel-ready player for taking on that role.

Is he though? 1.6 assists on a team that shot pretty well? I mean DeAndre Jordan got 1.6 assists last year on the Nets. I think we could have addressed the ball handling without giving up our pick.

What hurt us the most in the Bucks series was lack of size and defense once Ayton went to the bench. We had players who bring the ball up, and shoot well. And if a coach chose to not play those guys, but would trust a player he once coached years ago, well that seems like he blew good chances with current players. I mean Johnson could not get more than 20 mins, and six shots in the finals, and he was shooting 45% from three while playing great defense. The kid is getting smarter, I bet he could work on his ball handling skills.

Researched more, so instead of participating in the draft, we got a guy for his shooting, who would rank 16th in fg%(at 0.408) on our team, just above Jae at 0.404 and Alexander at 0.250. Oh, and same results when you look at 2pt%, 16th, right above Jae and Alexander. To be fair, he does move up to 7th for 3pt%.

Probably a good idea. I know plenty are annoyed.
