The one thing which is the unknown in all this is Sarver. He's shown little interest in dipping into the luxury tax even if it's what would be needed to field a team capable of contending. For years, he's been perfectly fine with us losing with the product he's paid for even though he's said time and again that he'd sell the team if his heart wasn't in it all the way. Pretty obvious it's not really been in it for a long time and he probably should have sold, but here we are.
Will our recent success change his tune on paying tax? We're soon to find out as we have the Ayton situation yet to be resolved, Cam Johnson looming on the immediate horizon, and these other things to clear up as well. That doesn't account for the end result of the ongoing investigation.

I don't think he'd care dipping in a little bit. But with the hefty increases the further you get into the tax, I think only 2-3 teams would ever go as deep into the tax as keeping guys like Saric, Shamet and Craig would take us, at least not for players like that.
I don't think many at all are willing to go into the repeater tax.
Now if we move on from Ayton because we think paying him is a worse option than keeping all those guys, I think we would likely keep them.
