Paul has one year left and then is basically a 15mil expiring we'll likely trade to a team that might be looking at trying to cut costs.
I think that's always been the plan (unless we were winning titles every year, or at least reaching the finals)

Regardless how the rest of this postseason goes, I pray we keep DA. He's frustrating sometimes but he's still developing which is exciting. He's so important to this team. Trade him and you may as well trade Booker as we're starting over. You aren't getting anyone to replace what he offers.

Yeah, I originally thought the Paul contract was too long until I read about the non guaranteed 3rd year and team option in 4th. He had a great year.

It was interesting....on a podcast I listened to today with Zach Lowe and JVG they mentioned how CP3 had to guard the screener on the screen and roll the most times he ever had this season in the last 4 games.

Like his 4 highest games of having to do that in the entire year are the last 4 games. Mavs probably saw all the talk of us attacking Luka every shot and them kind of laughing about it after in game 2, so they constantly attack CP3 all game every game for the next 4 game wearing him out, and he really has no effective backup (at least a guy you want to rely on in the WCSF)...so he can't rest. Not that he doesn't play D, but they are just wearing him out

JVG said he expects a big game 7 from him though. I don't know. He's been off...mainly with the turnovers. Almost as many as Book in the series.

Shooting less though even if he has been hitting 3s at a better rate than anyone. Seems he is not going to his midrange as much. He usually doesn't until the 4th though after getting people going and the last two games were blowouts so he didn't need to and he fouled out in game 4, so it was mainly game 3 that was weird. A lot of turnovers and didn't do too much offensively....that was the first game they started attacking him.

Dallas adjusted after we attacked Luka not allowing us to get the switch as much as possible so we probably need to do that if we can. Hopefully Monty realizes this.

I would include on your list Shamet's new contract kicking in this summer. Bad contract. If he can start nailing 4 3s a game or something and be an effective backup 3rd guard to handle the ball, both of which I think he is capable of (or at least nailing 3 3s a game in the high 30 percentages, ok).

We need to find a diamond in the rough on the UDFA market or something like we did with Payne based on last year's play.

It would also be nice if we could dump some salary and go for Tyus Jones or trade something for him but I don't think they'd want Payne (he is cheaper though and expiring).

They will probably try and keep him though...even though they have a Ja max and JJJ contract kicking in...they are still probably in a better contract situation than us.

yeah, shamet is categorized under #3. Aside from CamJo, I think we gotta reexamine everyone.

Cam Johnson is my biggest disappointment this off season. To think he was even considered as 6th man of the year is laughable. He is soft and rarely makes plays when it counts. I think his legacy rides on that last second he hit against the Knicks. He then was injured for the next 3 week or so.

We need him to be a factor on both ends. He is our biggest forward and he is over matched every night on the defensive end and for an offensive guy all he does is make threes. Yeah, he sometimes goes to the hoop but not near enough. He never rebounds and he normally is our 2nd largest player on the court. James Jones complained about rebounding all season. He has done nothing to fix it.

I would trade him for a legit PF if the opportunity was presented and I would not extend him this off season, period. We already have the other forward, the so-called DPOY, manned by a guy that only shows up once a week and cannot stay in front of Doncic. For gods sake I expected him to be able to at least slow that guy down. He has been a non factor for much of this series. He can start earning that extension he received on Sunday.

Fortunately, we have Crowder who is not afraid of the moment. We need Mikal and Johnson to Wake the fook up. If you do not see that, I have no idea what you are watching.

I expect that CP3 will have some kind of surgery this off season. He needs help, not complaints about being overpaid by the peanut gallery. Booker needs to act like a player that wants to be a first team all nba player.

I do wonder why Holiday has received no playing time from Monty and we have to watch Shamet run around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Johnson was a huge X factor for the Suns this post-season. Like you said he is playing soft and with little confidence. Great point about the sixth man thing, literally every playoff team has 1-3 guys off the bench that have outplayed him. One really good game would sure be nice.

I would shake things up and start Shamet as PG with Booker and have CP3 come in and play heavy minutes off the bench.

Hit Mavericks with an unexpected move. Make Mavs change up their minutes and tire out Luka as he has to cut his rest to jump in while CP3 is also on. CP3 still plays 30 minutes.

Eh it’s all about expectations right. This team looked like the 90s Bulls in the regular season only to barely squeak past a lowly play-in team like Pelicans and now pushing 7 games in the next round. This expectation in general was they would breeze past Pelicans and Mavs easily in the first two rounds to prepare for the big showdown with GSW. Even Kellan Olson who covers the team and is around the players always said the vibes he had were that Suns wouldn’t play more 10 games at most within the first 2 rounds and now their at #13 on Sunday.

If we were like a Mavs team that was #4 seed then sure the expectations would’ve been more curbed and losing in the 2nd round would be more acceptable.

People also have to realize that this is the Suns championship window right here. Chris Paul is aging and looks more like he’s 57 than he’s 37. This may be the best the Suns will be for the next 10-20 yrs or more. Do you want that to end in a title or not? I guess it’s not as big a deal for you since you also root for the Bucks and it’s looking like their gonna repeat as champions without breaking a sweat. Must be nice to be there right about now.

I love this team and we are contenders no matter what. We are in the second round already and I believe that we will win on Sunday.

It is gonna a game for the ages, our first 7th game with Book.

Eh come on man. You said after game 1 or game 2 that you felt bad for the Mavs and that the Suns are just so much better than them. You also said you couldn’t see any possible way in which the Suns wouldn’t sweep the Mavs. Do you see the way now? Also went back and forth with me a couple other people about how it’s absolutely insanity for the Suns to not be covered the favorites to win the title….lol I hope you see how it’s not all that insane now.

Well, we are 3-3 and we play at home tomorrow. We are favorites and I think we will play great, CP3 and Book play for these moments.

It's not over until it's over. Some fans take the pessimistic POV early, but that's not my case.

Yeah, I thought that we would win this series 4-1, but I was mistaken about their potential. At the end of the day the most important thing is to win and play the Conference Finals next week...4-0 or 4-3.
Yup.

Of course I'll be disappointed if they lose but after the sting wears away I'd look back at the past two years as some of the most fun I've had rooting for the suns.

Maybe I'm in the minority but my team winning a championship isn't the only thing I find value in being a sports fan. If that was the case I think I'd find something else to spend my time on with better odds of giving me enjoyment because championships are **** hard and rare. Oh and the notion that when they traded for Paul that was some championship or bust move is major goal post moving because there were national media not even picking them to make the **** playoffs before last season. Suns had a great run and upped expectations this year. Maybe they will hit them but if we're being honest it was always a better chance they wouldn't.

My original comment was more of a dig at gambos Paul tweet, media should be better than that. I expect that from fans on here, look around these boards every fan base thinks their coach should be fired and all their players suck. No one hates a team more than it's most insane fans. That is what it is.

Hope they win.

Yeah, I've had a lot of fun following the Suns over the years, particularly in their playoff years, despite some heartbreak. I am not the new generation championship or bust....this guy or that guys legacy...I mean of course if CP3 doesn't win a chip his "legacy" or "ranking" won't be as high but winning a championship is hard. Even the favorite to win it all never is favored against the entire field. Plus, as JVG mentioned on the Lowe Post, in the playoffs teams pay more attention to detail, can make adjustments, etc, but we are one team that already did this throughout the entire regular season because that's how Paul is, so our postseason upside from regular season is likely not as high as other teams since we are one team that tries to win every game.

And Mavs went 36-12 after a 16-18 start so had over a 61 win pace, so they are better than people think. Celtics were probably best team in final 30 or so games.
