But its time Ryan McD does something. I know nothing will happen until Feb 18- its almost like the league prohibits trades so the trade deadline is exciting. But, Ryan needs to do something. The roster decisions have not worked - obviously.

And the next coach - tricky spot they are in. I don't have a clue.

Next coach should have it easier, as the roster should be set going forward by start of next season, hopefully. Instead of trading half the team every six months.

It would help the coach if the roster had some stability and let the players grow and get better as a unit. Golden State had a few bad years with Curry, Bogut and Thompson. The Suns need to settle on the players and get some roster stability.

I knew we'd probably get rid of Jeff, but this is a really weird time to do that. I mean, unless the orders from on high were to play the young guys more consistent minutes but Jeff decided PJ Tucker was the answer, then I guess I get it.

Jeff is not a bad coach, I think he'll find a spot in this league, but maybe he also needs to grow as a motivator in order to get guys to buy into his system.

Hopefully our next hire will be a good one. I really don't think we're as bad as our record, but we've got a lot to figure out.

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Yeah, that's why I'd only trade Kieff and Tucker at this point. Keep Knight, Bled and the youngins and let them develop chemistry. Knight and Bled actually started the season pretty well together. It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough for me to want to see a full season of those two together.

Being able to attract talent is like 80% of competing in the modern NBA.

The inmates run the asylum now, and they all like Coach Cal.

Players like Coach Cal in COLLEGE. I dont think his recruiting skills matter a lot in this level.

Really? Because FA's don't take the coach into account when they choose where they're going?

LMA chose the Spurs over the Suns because of Pop. Pop even promised LMA he wouldn't retire during his contract to ensure that he would sign. This is just the modern NBA. There are power players (Riley, Jackson, Pop, etc.) and then there is everyone else. If we want to stop getting jerked around by the Rich Paul's of the league, we need a guy who can come in and be the basketball CEO this franchise desperately needs.

Coach Cal, whatever you want to say about him, is the only guy on the market that fits the bill.

There is only one option who can help this team and its the same guy who we replaced Hornacek with years ago. Bring in the Round Mound!

I find some of the media backlash to this funny. I guess it's predictable because Jeff is a good dude who they like and the suns organization is a dumpster fire so it's easy and fun to pile on. BUT really what did the expect the end game to the Hornacek situation to be? He's in the final year of his deal and I'm not sure either side had any interest in continuing this relationship moving forward. So was best case scenario to just have him finish the year as a dead man walking coach? That doesn't seem like a good situation for anyone involved. This obviously doesn't "solve" the suns problems. But it could have some minor upside if they get to test drive a guy like Watson or if it's lets them start courting an out of work coach like Tibs before other teams.

Mannix, who works with Woj now at Yahoo - speculating Nash could be a part of the future. I would not as head coach.

From that Mannix article:

Hornacek, hailed as a brilliant hire after finishing second in the NBA Coach of the Year voting in 2014, has been criticized by scouts for an offensive system deemed far too simplistic.

“They don’t run much of anything,” a scout told The Vertical recently. “It’s five guys, spread them out and try to beat you with basic stuff. It’s like watching an AAU game.”

Unless one of the assistants were at risks of leaving... It was better off to keep Hornacek. Even just for publicity sakes. He had 3 months to go before his contract expires.

Or maybe the FO wanted to see a different coach with the current roster and see what they can do with a different system... I dunno.

But overall the Suns need to pack the season up and let the young develop and get a top 2 or 3 pick.

Is Nash on a 1 year contract with warriors?

I cant see him leaving soon... He is part of a team that is about to set records in wins and a likely 2nd championship.

Oh i agree that recruitment of FA factors a lot in team building but thats the job of the GM not the coach. The last time Cal, Pitino and their ilk came to the NBA, They scurried back to the NCAA. Do you really think that the stars in the NBA like LBJ, KD, etc etc could be swayed by the sweet recruitment skills of Coach Cal?! I dont think so.. if we need a coach, then we should hire a good coach..

Only risk in that would be if current players were demanding him gone and GM wants to keep a good relationship with them.

I think that McDonough/Sarver saw really clear that Hornacek wasn't gonna be our HC next year, so we can go now on another direction with a new coach that CAN BE working with us (like HC or assistant next year).

McDonough /Sarver can ask this new HC to play exactly the players that they want and are part of our future and we can build something for tomorrow.

Great we fired Hornacek. Once again too little too late. Kieff still on this team. Our tank was strong and now Sarver wants Nash? :noway:

Hiring Steve Nash as head coach would be the ultimate gimmick hire by Sarver. Not only has Nash shown zero interest in being a head coach, he has shown zero skill at coaching.
