That being said, Goran isn't a max player at his age, right? Right?? Sure he is a steal right now, but worth $20m for 4-5 years? No thanks. I love the guy, but he won't be worth $20m when he is 32 or 33. Blah.
Mark Cuban is that you? Same logic he applied when he let Nash walk to us. Just sayin...
People throw around max like it's a universal term. It's not. Max Goran = Max Lebron at this point. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Goran is nice at about 12 per, not 20-some per.
Although I get your logic, he isn't worth a MAX, like I said.
Both in Larry Coon's CBAFAQ and here
http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/salary_cap the 2014-15 max contract amounts are not listed.
But look at that realgm link and the max column and you can see the max buckets by year. Right now Goran's max deal (if he were a FA) would fall in the first slot, same as Bledsoe (0-6 years in league), but after next year he jumps into the next bucket (7-9 years in league). LeBron is in the biggest bucket (10+ years).
The max salary buckets have been separated by about $2.7 million per year for starting salaries.
Guys like Kobe, Melo, LeBron etc can exceed the biggest max because you can also always start at up to 105% of your previous salary as an exception.
But yes, Goran will have a bigger max than any guy coming off his rookie deal next year.
Hope all that makes sense.
