I have no issue looking into Van Vleet because he's a really good player but I doubt the suns actually sign him. As much as I like Fred I'd be a little uncomfortable with what's he's probably going to get paid this fall.

yeah, one season of Rubio raised our floor doubled our win %. Don't be like the 13-14 Suns and try to take shortcuts after a promising season.

If say Saric moves on and they don't bring back Baynes, I could see Dragic getting a decent salary for one year. Than using the vet minimum for back up center and the 4 position. I wouldn't overpay Dragic for multiple years because again, 2021.
Even with the Heat I'd expect they only try to give him a 1 year deal because they are trying to go big game hunting in 21.

The team that should throw a huge 1 year deal at him is NY. They are similar to last year's suns team where they just need some competency at PG to even be able to properly evaluate their young guys at other positions.

I'm not sure what to make of Gorans market. He's been good lately but earlier in the season he wasn't as good and he's been banged up. He's also 34 so that has to scare some teams from offering more than a year or two.

The difference for the Suns with Rubio vs the Knicks with Goran is that Goran is 5 years older. Rubio has time to adjust to a long term project and grow over the next few years with the team. Goran is a guy who needs to be making moves in the playoffs in the next year or two. The MLE is going to be all he gets from anyone that's not Miami, unless he wants to on a terrible Hawks team for the last few years of his career. The issue with Miami, is they only have about 20 million to spend, so it's either they bring Dragic back and no one else, essentially standing pat with their roster, or they let him walk. Now, it's not out of the question that a playoff team offers him the MLE, but you'd have to think the Suns at least get a good sit down and a chance to make their pitch.
I wasn't implying it was that Dragic would be the exact situation as Rubio who I agree has much more long-term value for the suns than Dragic would have in NY. Just in a general sense that the Knicks need to do something at PG this summer even if it's a one year fix. They need at least competent PG play to assess what they have with guys like Barrett, Knox, and Robinson. They can create a ton of cap space so they could offer Goran a huge 1 year deal if the strike out on a longer term option like FVV.

From your lips to Sarver's ears. We could be at the start of something really good, and this is NOT the offseason to gamble. Continuity is the name of the game right now. Add a piece or two, sure, but don't give up anything important to get those pieces. Draft, and free agency--that's it. We can re-evaluate before the trade deadline if need be.

Oh I totally see it from the Knicks POV, I just don't see it from Dragic's end. Even with a bloated 1 year deal, and the chance to be a starter, he's 34 and his years to be in the playoffs and playing meaningful games are dwindling. There will likely be a lot more exciting prospects than the Knicks out there for him, even if it's for less money.

I'm not necessarily seeing the hype, unless we want him as backup 2. As a PG he isn't doing anything that Rubio can't. Per 36 FVV is 18/4/7 compared to Rubio's 15/5/10. I don't see him taking the starting PG job.

It's not just about keeping all our pieces, but also not robbing any of the young guys of the opportunity to develop, which would definitely happen if you bring in a star FA now.

I highly doubt that Fredderick signs with us if we don't give him the starting PG slot. He might as well return to Toronto then and eventually take over the reigns from Lowry, or sign with the Knicks or Pistons who will both surely promise him the starting PG spot.

Signing Fredderick probably means we're going to have offload Rubio for 69 cents on the dollar TJ Warren style.

I am expecting a TJ Warren type trade with Oubre this summer.

No need to move on from Rubio, but I would love to add FVV to this team.

He would be a terrific addition.

I don't think we'll have to worry about FVV. NYK will likely offer him a killing. Though, if I'm him, and it's between those teams, I am looking at Phoenix first.

I love Rubio, he's been absolutely delightful to have as the PG. I've just always liked FVV and think he's a 'winning' player as cliche as that sounds. So I'd be cool kicking the tires on him even though I doubt they land him. Need lots of good players in this league.

I mean, if he would be willing to be the backup 1/2, that would definitely be ideal. I say that one addition would make us a playoff team by itself. But not replacing Rubio though.

Why would FVV want to leave Toronto? Why would Toronto not offer him a reasonable contract? FVV is a terrific player, he's thrived under Nick Nurse, and Nurse has gotten more out of him than any other coach could have. I imagine Fred stays put.

You really would pay $20 mill + for FVV as your PG?

That is why we are never going to win a title ^^^^

We need to take a risk and trade big if we want to contend or be a playoff team.

Agreed - can the Suns better use their resources than paying FVV a bunch of money.

Yeah, no doubt FVV would be our sixth man, with Payne falling to third PG (and out of the rotation) behind him.

This is going to force Toronto into some difficult decisions. Probably can't keep all of FVV, Ibaka and Boucher. Serge is earning himself some money in the bubble. Their depth is their biggest strength, but it's about to get very expensive to keep that group together.

Serge Ibaka has been really good this year yet I'd be scared to death of signing him to a long term deal for big money.

Off topic - I get why Kawhi wanted to go home but if he truly wanted to win a title - getting out of the East with the crew in Toronto was always going to be easier than getting out of the West. And thats important to winning a championship - getting there. A 1+1 made sense to me if he wanted to win this year

I get it though - he can helicopter to practice

Hahahah ...... In all honesty, if Embiid is pondering his future ... throw the farm at Philly
