Devin's been much better defensively these last four or so games, so I know he has it in him. With Devin, it's about not putting the entire offense on his shoulders. With Ayton, I expect (hope!) it's just a matter of time.

He's been good on a few plays. But last night he had by far the worst +/- and it wasn't due to his offense, which was solid.

I thought the +/- was primarily due to the fact that he shared the court with Harden. Mikal bricked a lot of his threes while Devin was out there. He shared the court least with the only guy who was hot last night - Oubre. I didn't notice Devin's defense last night, though I thought he did work hard on the glass.

Well, all the starters did share the court with him. Bridges was -4, Ayton +8, Jackson -8, Booker -21.

He just seems to refuse to re-engage and keep moving. The other players have started physically pushing him toward the ball or basket for a rebound or wherever he should naturally flow to. While his teammates are fighting for multiple rebounds he is standing near the three point line hoping his teammates come up with it instead of running to the action. His team is literally tipping and fighting for boards while he stands, its infuriating. Watched Bridges shove him toward the basket during a rebound fighting session last night, shoved him toward the basket from the free throw line. Cant teach effort and desire!

I think we're talking about that same play yesterday where Ayton made the right defensive rotation out to challenge Green taking a 3 and when that shot clanged out the rim, Nene (I think) was contesting for the rebound along with a couple of our smaller wings. Then when Green had the instincts to run from the 3PT line to help gang rebound with Nene, Ayton who should've done the same, just kind of stood there to watch. Like Green running past in front of him should've at least prompted him to perhaps head towards the basket. But no, nothing. Just stood there like it's 5:00pm and it's time to clock off

It happened several times yesterday, this particular time Bridges shoved him toward the play.

Made me find it.... The play starts at 4:55 left in the second quarter, he comes out to help defend Harden, his man rolls to the hoop and stands there... Harden actually fires the ball cross court to the opposite corner to Pj and Ayton stands there like a scarecrow!! Finally Bridges shoves him toward his man!!

Ahh yeah just rewatched that. Didn't notice Bridges shoving him until rewatching it. I'm not going to grill someone for missing a rotation here to help (ie miscommunication) but when it happens time and time again and it's so blatant that an offensive player is super wide open that it requires a team mate to prompt them with a shove, it's really just mind boggling.

The play I was referring to was at 10:07 left in the 4th.

Yep, same ****. What I do notice in both those plays is his teammates AUDIBLY yelling at him. The one in the second quarter Bridges screams at him and pushes him while Crawford is also pointing at him to go and in the second one, yours in the 4th quarter Oubre screams at him for standing out there.

Yeah you're right. Not the first time I've seen his team mates tell him to get to spots before, during and after a play.

Here's my question:

Why do you say you play like Kevin Garnett when you play like the opposite of Kevin Garnett?

I'm not on Twitter so I can't, but I see a bunch of questions like it.

Deandre looks like he'll be a very productive player for a long time, and it's fine to get one of those in a draft. But it's just sad that Deandre could be every bit as good as Doncic if he played with as much passion, and he plays with almost none. That "second contract" comment wasn't inartful, it was revealing.

Players like Doncic with their bbiq, savviness, heart, will to win, vision, shooting, size, rebounding, passing, etc, are extremely rare. You'd have to have a #1 pick usually to get a guy like that.

Ayton will still be a top 5 player in this draft...right now he's arguably top two and definitely top 3 or 4.

Question I would ask (similar to yours) would be why he uses the hashtag “BULLYSZN” so much on Instagram when he plays like anything but a bully. Unfortunately I’m not on twitter either.

Unless he’s using it as some weird sort of connotation where he’s the one getting bullied night in and night out (even by guys like Kenneth Faried), it doesn’t make all that much sense.

Looks like he's not 100% and/or hitting the rookie wall. The ayton before the injury looks waaaay different from the current iteration.

Ayton has to grow mentally between the ears. It's looked that way the whole year. He needs a crash course in basketball this summer.

I don't think anyone disagree with you, but keep in mind the kid is still a rookie. Since he came back from the injury, he looks off to me. He's taking significant more mid-range jump shots than he normally does. And he moves like a geriatic man at times.
