...can't say I'm a fan of that trade even though it rids us of Knight.
Seeing as it'll be hard to lure free agents, I don't think this is the worst idea. It'll help teach the kids how to win and I can't imagine it would cost more than expirings and maybe the Bucks and 2nd rounder or, more likely, the Heat 16 this year.
Gives us guys who have winning experience. It would also let Ayton play mostly center.
Depending on the picks, I think I would do this.
George Hill as PG would be an less likely option. I think Goran or Eric Gordon (if the Rockets go for LeBron) -- would be better.
But one way to help the Cavs is if they are in sell -mode - send back non guaranteed contracts to get them under the luxury tax. Knight, Dudley and Chandler do not do that. Grantedf, they are expiring contracts (and for those asking about JR Smith - he only is guaranteed 4m after next summer - thknking the CAvs keep him)
If you could move Dudley for my guy COle Aldrich and his non guaranteed deal

-- than you could so something like
Knight, Williams, Aldrich, Chandler and Ulis to Cleveland -because not only is that 3m less salary but it also about 12m in non guaranteed deals
Minnesota gets Dudley - over the cap - they will need a player
Suns get: Love, Hill and if they really want to limit what goes back to the Cavaliers - take Korver and he is only guaranteed 4m after this summer like HIll is only guaranteed 1m and throw them Daniels as he expires next summer - even MORE savings for the Cavs
Not my ideal trades though -
I still would prefer Love for Chandler and Warren
But figure out how to get Tucker and Gordon from the Rockets even if that means a future first rounder to the Cavs.
EDIT: I think just for the cap space and not guaranteed contract - I might call the TWolves and offer Dudley and a very heavily protected 1st that becomes two second round picks for Aldrich. That would create either an asset pre 7/1 if LeBron opts out (Williams + Ulis + Aldrich would be 13.5m on non guaranteed contracts) or it creates an additional 8m of cap space to take on say Love/Hill minimizing the dollars going back to the Cavs.
