Love Trae but even old man Chandler played almost double the amount of games as Noah the past 3 seasons. That's a tough ask and I'm torn. Chandler is a $13m expiring while Noah still has almost $20m owed the following season.
I think, if we can get Booker to delay signing his extension to next offseason season then I definitely wouldn't do it because we'll have cap space still next season. If we can't and we only have MLE to spend next offseason then we're strapped anyway, we could take a punt on moving up to draft Young

My take:
When you have over $30mil in expiring (Noah/Knight) to package with a boat load of picks in 2019, it's just as good as cap space.
Ideally we already have our PG/SG/SF/C locked up. If Bender or Chriss don't pan out as quality starters then the need is PF. Picks and expirings net that.
If you have 4/5 starters locked up and 3/5 backups already...in addition to MLEs to use, then why do we need max cap space in 2019 and 5 firsts in the next 3 years?
Use our 2019 MLE on a backup C
Use Noah/Knight expirings and picks in 2019 for a starting PF if needed and we are set for 5 years

I had something similar with NY.
My dream would be to get the #9, then package it with future picks and see just how high we could rise up the draft. I really do believe that we could net the #3 or #4 picks by packaging the #9 with our 2019 pick, the Bucks pick, and the Miami 2021 pick. Thats 3 1sts to have a team move down 5 or 6 spots. Could even sweeten the deal by taking back a contract they want to get rid of (Schroder for Warren or Parsons for Knight/Dudley).

Suns can use the Pick 16 to unload Knight...
Assuming a Free Agent has indicated an interest to sign with Suns if they have room... OR a trade for a player for cap space is in the works...

With Young...
Teams will just switch up to him and abuse him as Rockets are doing with Curry.
Really need an Oladipo type SG next to someone like Young... Or a Danny Green. Booker and Young just gets switched most game...
I really want Jackson to watch how Bulls used Pippen and how Lebron plays as well.
The one advantage Jackson has on Tatum is that Jackson has a lower dribble and has better passing skills... He makes accurate passes under pressure one handed or both hands...
Even his scouting mentions his under rates passing..
Iguadala is really a "floor" for Jackson IMO... Because Jackson is so aggressive to get his shot up and not afraid to miss.

I'd pissed if they burnt the 16 pick just to clear knights money. This FA class just isnt that good once you get past the guys like george and LeBron.

Re: Almost off-season discussion! Trades/Free Agency Ep. 9
I like these ideas of moving up in two steps via NYK and another team. My version:
Step 1: Chandler/Daniels/#16/#31 for Noah/#9. This keeps the money close to even in the first year while saving the Knicks the whole last year of Noah's $18m deal, opening up a ton of cap space for them in summer 2019. Since we're not saving them significant short-term cash, we might have to up the draft-pick offer, say by adding the MIL pick or a heavily protected first instead of #31. It's helpful for us to include Daniels so we can still open up cap space for...
Step 2: #9/Dudley/Williams/Reed for Parsons/#4. This would be my starting point for step 2 but if we have to give up Warren instead of Dudley, or add another future pick, I still probably do it. Grizzlies save a ton of money and only have to move back 5 spots, where they should still be able to get Mikal or Bamba or whoever else slides there.
We end up capped out the next two years but we could still open up max cap room to add a free agent to put us over the top the summer of 2020 when Knight/Parsons/Noah all expire, right when all our young talent is hopefully coalescing and we are a highly desirable team to join, which is also the summer we have to make our decisions to extend Bender and Chriss or not.
So for the next two years we could have a core of Doncic/Booker/Jackson/Bender/JJJ (or Bamba or Carter, depending on your preference), or Young/Booker/Jackson/Bender/Ayton, with Knight and hopefully Warren still on the team too. We'd be young and would not make the playoffs next year, but would be exciting and would have the league's attention, and I think we'd be able to keep most of our future draft assets to use or trade as well. Hopefully in 19/20 we make or almost make the playoffs just as we go into free agency with max cap space, then extend Bender and/or Chriss after bringing in our FA, and then really make some noise.
Maybe I should move this to the 'ideal offseason' thread.

Re: Almost off-season discussion! Trades/Free Agency Ep. 9
I'm not in favor of taking on Noah's money. We have to change the way we're thinking. With this pick, we're hoping to go from "rebuilding" to "rebuilt." The money's going to start getting tight quick, and I'd rather not cripple our financial flexibility over the years to come.
This also means I wouldn't be interested in taking on some of those awful CHA contracts. We need to take a totally different approach to this going forward.

Ridiculous proposal
But Booker is not as highly valued as we might think as a net negative player currently

There's only one yes vote lol
Devin Booker looks like Klay Thompson’s younger, malnourished brother; his game can be described that way as well. He’s not a can’t miss guy, and he probably has a giant ego after scoring 70 in a loss. Ship him out now while he still has value.
What a dumb ass take.

It doesn't matter what some of the message board commenters think of Devin Booker. Most have seem him play once or twice and some have never seen him play, which is why they make some the most ignorant comments expressed on these boards The Suns and most of their fans think the world of him and so do most the league's players (Durant, James, Thompson, etc )- except maybe for a couple of the Celts (Crowder and Smart) that he burned for 70 and then followed it up 38 the next meeting with the Celts.
The is not a player in the league, except possibly Anthony Davis, that the Suns would trade Booker for and if the Suns draft Ayton as I suspect they will, I doubt the Suns would trade Booker even for for Davis.

Re: Almost off-season discussion! Trades/Free Agency Ep. 9
Other than the age factor/projected upward career trajectory going for him there are more than a handful of players I would trade Booker because I think he is a one-way Top 20-25 player in his prime but not a true #1 franchise cornerstone on a contender

Re: Almost off-season discussion! Trades/Free Agency Ep. 9
kawhi, Mitchell and Booker has proven that 70 or 80 percent of top 10 picks don't become good starters anyways... And that talent can be had later if they simply look for players properly and those that fit.
I think Suns can move up depending on if a team knows so and so will be there at Pick 16

Booker would literally have to be the second coming of Harden and project to be one of the ATG SGs to be valued that highly. In a vacuum based on talent alone disregarding contract situation, assuming we weren't or didn't have the opportunity to take Ayton. I would trade him upright for Simmons, Embiid, Porzingis, KAT(despite regression), Giannis, Kawhi, Steph, KD, Bron. Might be missing a few names, but this is with my homer glasses off

I am not averse to moving draft picks like the WArriors did to facilitate the right trade. So, if you tell me the Suns attach a pick or two to a combination of Dudley, Chandler, Knight and the return is an Iguodala type that really fits the team - I am all for it. If its just for cap space - forget that. Because as you said, this free agent class is not that deep.
The Suns need to add solid role players that fill roles better than Dudley, Chandler and Daniels. 27m of cap space right now.
If the pick is Ayton - to me that means guys like the following
Ariza
Dougie McDermott
Aminu
(after the first two games of Houston GSW- I might be done with Mbah a Moute)
If the pick is Doncic
probably put in Favors over Ariza
Still need a PG - maybe Exum

As for your comment on Harden, compare Booker at age 21 versus Harden at 21 compare Booker at 3 years into the league versus Harden at 3 years into the league. Booker exceeds Harden in almost every category. Harden's first year in Houston looks a lot like Booker this last year.
You don't make trades in a vacuum. You might make trades for some of those, I don't think the Suns do. Possibly Giannis, but the rest are too old, too expensive, too beat up or don't fit.
