Walking boot is rarely good.

Hopefully it's just a precautionary measure?
Can't remember though. Do they customarily put their players in those boots for ankle sprains? Has any of our other players been in one for a similar injury?

Not that I recall. It doesn't hurt to put on a boot for precautionary measures but generally ankle sprains that require a boot is usually not the typical tweak you walk off. Last time Ayton was in a walking boot was back in the shortened 2020 season where he missed a week (3 games) before the season was put on hold. Could certainly be a different severity sprain but I don't recall seeing anyone sprain an ankle, get given a walking boot and is back the next game.

Not gonna say the sky is falling or make any apocalyptic judgement but walking boots is rarely the "good" kind of sprain if there ever was one.

I think Ayton does pretty much what the team asks of him - anchor the defense, grab lots of rebounds and score efficiently. And as long as they're winning lots of games, it's hard to argue that they should be using him differently.

I still think Ayton has terrible hands...loses the ball if any defender breathes near him...also stop missing games if you want that 5th year max deal

He still turns it over far less per 36 than McGee for example, despite attracting far more defensive attention. Like a little more than half as much.

And he turns it over less per 36 than many Cs including Adams (who gets the ball less), Jarrett Allen (gets ball less), Bam (who handles it more), Sabonis, Valancius, Nurkic, Poeltl, Wood, Gobert, and others who handle it quite a bit more but have like double the turnovers per 36 (Jokic, Embiid, Towns) and AD.

Most analysts talk about how he has great hands. He could turn it over less, but this happens with a lot of Cs and to some a much greater extent.

A turnover is usually accounted for whoever throws the ball, right? Most of Aytons turnovers seems to come from his struggles catching the ball, it would make sense if the passer is being credited the turnover.

yeah well then explain his catch with one hand mid air and guiding the ball smoothly to the hoops... repeatedly...

What I see though are two things... Ayton's not expecting the pass and thinking his teammate will shoot... and secondly, the passes to him are BULLET passes.

Watch Embiid play one game and you will see Embiid NEVER gets bullet passes to him the way Ayton does... Towns, Davis etc. all rarely gets the passes Ayton gets, understandably as Ayton is playing in a system where he gets the ball and puts a shot up within a second or with as little dribbling as possible. Embiid gets a soft pass where he is then allowed to isolate his man... Ayton gets passes in a clogged lane, or bounce passes where he is defended and have no room to operate. Its black and white if you watch and compare how other big men gets the ball from Ayton.

Other rim runners like Jarrett Allen gets similar passes to Ayton but not as often nor as heavily guarded.

Thought I'd bring this thread back to page 1 since ... well DA was just ho-hum against the Nets. First game-back jitters?? Crowder was off too. Guess we will see over the next few games.

That would be stupid. Really need to make sure we can retain Cam Johnson.

Conditioning. They probably give him too many minutes for his first game back and it will probably take a few games to get into proper game shape. Anyone out that long with a leg injury preventing them from running the court, but especially bigs, will take a bit coming back.

Xin Varlock (@XinNBA) Tweeted:
Well, didn’t think I’d have to remind people that Deandre Ayton posted the most efficient double-double postseason in NBA history, in his age 22 season, while playing 36 minutes per game for 22 playoff games. Also, defense.

Dude doesn’t care much about the reg season. https://t.co/lRURbALLKO

Ayton is very important for a playoff run, especially against certain guys like Jokic. Aytons consistency and impact overall is not that of a max player. I think both statements can be true at once.

Regarding maxing Ayton!
From Paul himself:

Duane Rankin (@DuaneRankin) Tweeted:
"DA is the reason we won this game." Chris Paul about Deandre Ayton. #Suns

Also coming from Jrue Holiday:

Jim Owczarski (@JimOwczarski) Tweeted:
“I think he did a good job, to be completely honest. I think we fronted him a little bit, we stayed behind him, he got to his hook.

"They should probably pay him. Big fella is good.”

#Bucks point guard Jrue Holiday on #Suns center DeAndre Ayton.

Sarver listen to Jrue Holiday and cop it up... get Ayton his contract.
