Yeah, I'm sick of hearing about Ball family all the time.

Watson again complimented center Alex Len, who scored 10 points in Friday’s scrimmage and followed up with another strong practice Saturday.

With Alan Williams sidelined for six months after knee surgery, Len has the opportunity to receive regular playing time behind starting center Tyson Chandler.

The key for Len, according to Watson: He’s simplified his offensive game, focusing on basic things like his movement in the pick-and-roll.

“Alex Len is playing amazing,” Watson said. “He’s rolling to the rim, finishing at the rim, just doing the simple things. Simplifying his game has made him a more complete player which sounds like it doesn’t make sense but it does.”

Len wants that free agent money!

I think Len was stubborn about how he wanted to play. Multiple teams in free agency told him he needs to simplify in order to make any cash. I wish the Suns had given him a low multi-year deal so that they could control whether they want to keep him or not.

I think the Suns were probably stubborn in how they wanted Len to play. They wanted him to be an offensive center and that really isn't his strength. Took them four years to figure out the guy needs to be a P-N-R center, block shots, rebound, and play defense. One year he was mostly injured, basically three under Horny, one under Watson.

I don't know if I would agree with this if Alan Williams had not injured his meniscus. I'm also somewhat foreclosed, at this point, to being too optimistic about Alex's future based off an encouraging scrimmage or camp.

Well may be. Too bad. He will be a FA now. If he doesn't improve, the Suns won't sign him. If he does, they won't be able to sign him.

If the Suns don't have a winning season what does it matter? If they have a winning season and Len is a big-time contributor on the defensive side then we might have a problem. I'm not worried about paying Len right now with Chandler, Williams, Bender, Chriss, draft picks, and possible free agents to replace him.

100%

Our front office pushed the idea to themselves, to Len and to the fans since the beginning that he's some sort of multi-dimensional big man of the modern NBA. We drafted him over Noel because of his offensive potential (among other things). He pretty much started working on his J from Day 1 and focused a ton on creating for himself when he has the ball. There were promise in flashes but he was never able to sustain it. One game, he could look smooth and put up an efficient 18pts then score in single digits for the next 5 then put up 20pts on 5-15 shooting. It's frustrating for everyone when he's inconsistent because the team is asking too much from him.

He just needed to simplify his offensive game and focus on D.

Who would rebound on that starting unit? Both Bender and Chriss are bad at rebounding.

You don't need to rebound when you're dunking your way to 120 a game and giving up only 118 8-)

TJ's gotten better at rebounding. Bender, being the high IQ guy would likely do the boxing out while Chriss or TJ would grab them. That will be a problem, but I imagine we will mix lineups quite a bit. I feel like Chandler should play with Chriss just for that vet presence, but Bender should be on that unit for passing in the frontcourt. When Jackson is on the floor he can pass from the frontcourt. I think Ulis/Daniels/Jackson/Chriss/Chandler would be a good second unit. Daniels our best 3 pt shooter, Chriss like our 4th or 5th best, but Jackson and Chandler can cover for Chriss' defensive problems of not knowing where to be, low IQ play...Ulis would be good for lobs.

If Chandler doesn't play he can't be rested (against league rules).

Mods: Can we un-sticky this and get some sort of general season discussion thread stickied instead? The season's basically here, fellas!

+1! And while we're at it - how about doing sg with all the fantasy threads? Or am I the only one who finds them a bit too exessive?

This might be true, but I think league is looking at superstars and blatant tanking. So if Chandler dresses up and gets a DNP-CD or plays 2 minutes as starter than another 2 minutes at the start of the 2nd half we obey the rules.
