Greg Moore is terrible covering basketball
Not sure how many of you read him - but he is terrible. HIs "takes" are terrible. He got Ja Morant right - but today he thinks Oubre - well speculating, that Oubre may not be playing to keep his trade value
Than he goes on the write that Blake or LMA would be good trade targets for Oubre
Jeez -- Mizell is the best beat writer in Phoenix, regardless of sport. And not just because she answered two of my questions yesterday in her chat wrap. And I get Moore is opinion but today that was just terrible. And not the first time.

Yeah, she's the best that I remember, and doesn't seem to have a ton of readers, though many of the team specific writers (especially a team like the Suns) on the Athletic, since it has a paywall, don't have much readership. It's too bad, because it's very informative, and she's easily the best most trained writer.

I won't give that Moore article a click but from what I've seen posted online it's a **** ridiculous take. Like the entire premise doesn't even make logical sense. SheeshBobbieL wrote:Greg Moore is terrible covering basketball

Her chat was excellent yesterday because her answers were very detailed. Somebody asked about free agent targets - she mentioned many many names. Not just "hey lets get Kawhi" (or a big name FA) - but mentioned GAllo but also players like Grant, Millsap, Christian Wood. She does her homework - pays attention during games and to what Monty says. I like her work a lot.

I went back to re-read to make sure I wasn't exaggerating. Nope. His premise was Oubre and the team might be shutting him down for trade a trade this summer and that something seems "fishy." Why the hell would the Suns shut down a guy who as part of a starting 5 - is doing very well. Why would a team that has lost so many games in recent years shut down a good player when they have a chance, outside to make the playoffs but at worse, double last seasons win total
I think I blocked it out but not only did he mention LMA and Blake but he mentioned two other trade targets
Julius Randle - guy thinks he would be a fan favorite
Clint Capela - he thinks he would be perfect next to Ayton
He needs to quit covering basketball.

Gina is legit, but I would never in my life pay and sign up for a subscription for the athletic. I would pay for Woj alerts though.

Holy hell it's worse than I could have even imagined. Kelly is having the best year of his career yet his premise is somehow saying he has a torn menicius would someone be some conspiracy for a trade. Like just say that out loud and tell me it makes a lick of sense....BobbieL wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:I won't give that Moore article a click but from what I've seen posted online it's a **** ridiculous take. And those trade targets... Umm has this dude been in a coma for 15 years and not understand how modern basketball is played.
Like if that article was a take on here I'd make fun of it but this dude literally got paid to write that. I'm at a loss.

The Suns have zero reason to tank. Who cares about ping pong balls in a lousy draft. They are the 11th seed or something today, maybe 10th in terms of lottery ping pong balls. Now, maybe Rubio has minutes cut, Booker a little. But no need to tank to me. Try to win these games.

Greg gives me hope that I could be hired to write sports articles and just talk about sitting in a basement eating hot pockets with some mild basketball references thrown in.

Seems that way doesnt it, and I'd hope they play it out.... but one little nagging back or hammy will = vacation time. These guys on the bubble for employment should get max time. Stink or swim for some of them. CamJo is a lock, but there are 3-4 dudes who might be wondering if they should renew their leases. We need to see.

I don't think we will even for the final game, unless they are injured and playing on it could make it worse.

Here's a take. I actually don't think the suns have held guys out for tanking in the past nearly as much as some think. Hell I don't think they even intentionally tanked nearly as much as some say in hindsight. I think they were just unintentionally bad.
They did sit some vets like Chandler and Dudley but realistically those guys were pretty damn bad anyway. Knight got shut down one year but was really really abysmal that season when he played.
Bledsoe that last full year is the best example and was legit shut down but he was also coming off his second menicius injury and the coaches where playing him a ton before the shut down.
People will point at Warren last season but he was like 5 3pt attempts from getting a $250k bonus. Had the suns not let him play his agent would have immediately filed a grievance and it would have been the easiest case the league has ever reviewed.

I think they play it out going for the best possible record they can achieve. It would be much easier for the Suns to attract a free agent when the Suns can sell said player on being the missing component that pushes them into the playoffs. Much easier when you are a mid-30 win team versus a high-20 win team.

Damn, Aaron Gordon with 17 pts, 12 assists, 11 boards, and 2 blocks. Hopefully we didn't turn down an Oubre for Gordon offer.

Monte Morris will be a free agent in 2021. I'd be keeping tabs on him as a potential future free agent target for us. He's the backup PG in Denver behind Jamal Murray, and Jokic leads most of their offense, so there will be an opportunity to get him eventually. He's been efficient in his two full seasons since his first season where he only played 3 times. 14 ppg 6 ast per 36 this year on 46% fg%. He currently only plays 21 mpg, but I think it says a lot that he was beating Malik Beasley for those minutes, who is now having quite the (offensive) run for Minnesota now.

Re: 2019-20 Season Speculation, free agency, summer trades: The excitement of the trade deadline has passed!
I asked the Nets board for their opinion on LaVert
I think his contract is good and might still be worth going after but would a swap for Oubre be too much / too little?
I really think Bogdon needs to be the target this summer but I'm reading that the Kings plan on retaining him (since he's an RFA, we'd really need to overpay to get him).
LeVert may be the best we can do but I don't know if he fills the need. Maybe BKN lets us be part of a 3 way deal where we deal our first and bring him in instead. I dunno.
"It depends on how he's valued around the league, Levert's value can be pretty volatile. There are intriguing pieces on the Suns roster, but I don't know if you guys would be willing to give them up for Levert.
Levert's strengths:
6'7" athlete with length
Primary ballhandler capabilities
Passing skills
Ability to create his shot
Can play passing lanes very well to get steals
Weaknesses:
Inconsistency & Inefficiency
Injury prone
Has improved as a shooter but still question marks
Can get to the basket well but finishing ability is erratic
Mostly a bad defender despite physical tools
Overall, he still has all star potential if he somehow figures it all out, but it's looking more and more unlikely that he will. Clearly a very talented guy with a good attitude/mindset, and character. If it all comes together for him one day, he'll be a very good player in this league. I would keep him here if we were a rebuilding team or a young playoffs team (like last year), but we're expected to contend soon, and we'll be in need of more reliable players. So I do think it's in our best interest to move on from him."
