Yeah, that is a bit crazy. It's the same with "irregardless." It was never a word. Ask people to define it and they *always* gave you the definition of regardless. People used the fake word so much they had to add it to the dictionary.

Except that isn't the case with "literally". There are two schools of thought on the word, one school of thought has always considered it acceptable. The word initially meant "to the letter", meaning to transcribe something letter by letter. It wasn't the opposite of figuratively as so many people now believe it to have been. It's been in use as an intensifier almost as long as it's been in use as the opposite of figuratively. Until the early 1900's it was generally accepted in both literary and academic circles. There are more than a few authors, academicians and linguists that would like to throttle Ambrose Bierce. He was the critic and sometimes author who first took public issue with the word (in 1909) but he and his followers did so out of ignorance rather than enlightenment.

Here is a very small list of famous authors that used literally to mean something other than the opposite of figuratively: James Joyce, Mark Twain, F Scott Fitzgerald, John Dryden, Alexander Pope, Jane Austen, James Fenimore Cooper, William Makepeace Thackeray, Charles Dickens and Henry David Thoreau. Some of those names go back to the 1600's.

Holy **** you guys. Its been HOURS and you are still talking about this ****?

Quit flooding the thread with this crap. Nobody cares!

We are way off topic, you're right. But, look through this thread. Most of it is off topic. Irregardless, I am literally completely decimated by you're reaction.

I dated a girl in college who would lose her s**t when "literally" was used in a case that was actually "figuratively". Not surprisingly she was an English major. Had some fun with that.

So other than English lecture what's going to happen tomorrow? I will be all sorts of upset if we don't do anything. I want us to move both Dragics and IT. Let Bledsoe start working on the chemistry with the young guys.

Isn't that what we have all been doing today?

Am I missing something? Today was the biggest meltdown of this message board since Nash got traded to the Lakers

I think we trade IT and Plumlee but no Dragics on the move. Not because we don't want to trade him, I just don't expect we'll get a worthwhile offer.

Not sure if people have read the Grantland article about Dragic (I know a tidbit was posted before), but due to the need for something more related to trades in the trade thread, I thought I'd post it.

Simmons: Question: “What’s the most realistic Dragic trade that would make the 2015 playoffs more fun?” I came up with three medalists. By the way, I threw in Zoran Dragic in every trade because the Dragic brothers are a package deal, kind of like Sean Fennessey and Chris Ryan. And I think Fennessey is Zoran. Anyway …

Bronze: The Dragic brothers to Chicago for Taj Gibson, Kirk Hinrich and the right to swap Phoenix’s own 2015 first-rounder with Sacramento’s first-rounder that Chicago owns (top-10 protected). If only because we needed to make Derrick Rose’s season weirder.

Silver: The Dragic brothers to Houston for Terrence Jones, the Greek Non-Freak/Alexey Shved expirings and New Orleans’s protected lottery pick. Unfortunately, Houston dumped Goran for Linsanity in 2012. I mean, would YOU forgive Dork Elvis for that? Me neither. He’s not going there.

Gold: The Dragic brothers to Indiana for Solomon Hill, the Chris Copeland/C.J. Watson/Lavoy Allen expirings and Indiana’s unprotected 2015 first-rounder. Now we’re talking! Fast-forward to mid-April: Dragic, George Hill, David West, Roy Hibbert and a rejuvenated PG-13 at crunch time AS A FREAKING 8-SEED?????? Sign me up! Sign me the F up! I’m rooting for this one. Long live the Legend in advance.

The Suns front office sure knows how to keep secrets. With how public everything has been since last night regarding Goran Dragic, people still have no idea what the Suns are going to do. All speculation. Keep Dragic, trade Dragic, trade Thomas. No one knows. No one even really knows which teams the Suns are actually talking to. Gotta say that it is pretty impressive. Idk of another organization that operates with that tight of a seal.
