I think there is no way we're trading Len unless it's a package deal with Knight.

I could see a 3way type of deal that includes Len going to the Warriors since he's not making a ton of money this year. He would actually fit well there IMO.

Nets strike out on another RFA. What decent RFAs are left besides Len?

Yeah, he's not making much this season, but to re-sign him he will, and the Warriors need all the capspace they can get to have the ability to re-sign Curry and Durant in the off season. And we know what Len can and cant do better than damn near all the other teams and teams fans, so if we arnt willing to give him $12M+ a season (because he doesnt provide that much to warrant that kind of contract), what makes you think a cash strapped GS team is willing to take on that risk? They arnt. GS will be the new run-and-gun Suns. They are and will be the team that will end up signing good solid veterans on cheap contracts for as long as they have Curry and Durant. They have no need anymore to take a big money risk on a player thats own team is finding troubles trying to justify such a contract.

Can't see us trading Len.... come the off season, we'll offer a reasonable deal, which he'll turn down, then The FO will wait for others to set his price. We'll match if it doesn't muck up other signings/deals. Much like with DMo....as now he is a tradable retained asset. We are 12mill below the cap as is anyway.

I doubt it but if so, Alex Len will likely play for Brooklyn.

I can say I wish the Nets wouldn't have gotten all their offers matched, so they wouldn't have all that money, and depending on their long term view of Lopez, it is possible they throw a max out there to a center, but there are others they might prefer to do that with from that draft class. However, I guess some contracts, like Steven Adams 4 years at $100 million have already gotten extended.

I still think he will be the highest paid player on the team next year. That would suck if Brooklyn gave him a max offer sheet though.

I think part of the reason we are not starting him is for contract negotiation, and fewer minutes means fewer stats, recognition, etc. I'll be happy if we can keep him at like $17.5 or less (That's 75% of what Adams got which is around the max). Obviously I'd rather not go above a lower number, but you simply cannot let solid young rotation players walk away because we haven't really been able to sign an impact free agent at a position of need in quite a while.

But McD gave Bledsoe and Knight about 80-90% of the max and they were not as high of lottery picks as Len was. As far as I'm concerned, I hope barring some trade that I don't foresee, that they should just try to extend Len to a reasonable deal if Len knows he wants to stay here. Maybe he doesn't want to deal with free agency. But I'm sure his agent will want to test the market rather than take a reasonable deal. I wonder what other unrestricted centers will be out there, other than Bogut.

It seems like when some talk about the numbers, they are still thinking in terms of the old cba, or that we benefit in some way by retaining open cap space as if there are better free agents out there than Len who would could alternatively use that money for. We seem to be fine depth wise at every other position but the one position we have a really old starter at is C.

Potentially high lotto pick for Len? Not likely. Especially when it's contract year.

Just wondered...they would have his rights to match. they could move on from Asik and try not to waste the Brow's pre prime years

Yep, but maxing KCP would leave them with a 120M payroll
Tough call

I suspect right now people will be more willing to hit the luxury tax, particulary those with deep pockets. Now, more than ever, if you have a player you deem valuable, and you can win the free agency battle by simply matching, they takes out the huge issue of losing an asset you have groomed for four years and started ever.

But on top of that, the owners are making SO much more money from the league this year and years beyond that even if they HAD to deal out luxury tax payments, they will are very likely to come out ahead at the bottom of the line, while not depleting their team while getting nothing in return.

That is why Portland will draft well and match everyone. Money is the least of Paul Allen's concerns and that was before the spike in NBA revenue. They may make trades with all these assets they accumulate, but they view them, even if overpaid, as assets, because they are already well over the cap line, so losing them is just losing a productive player which does them no good.

Front page article on realgm: Otto Porter Expected To Receive Max Contract Offers In Free Agency

LOL. Really?

It would be smart for us to sit back on the sidelines and "punt" on free agency once more year. Let teams handicap themselves with another round of maxing role players. We should offer only the true stars max deals AND if (when) they turn us down, we just

And we should absolutely try to move Len. Some team will max him and then we either have to let him walk OR pay him star money when he is only a backup center.

Of course Otto Porter should probably get a max. I was tired back in the day of our owner being cheap. If you can't pony up like the rest of the league is doing, sell the damn team. These guys are making money hand over fist. You can't just let the only assets you have walk out the door everyone involved with this league is overpaid.

You expect to find some really talented chump to come along and say "Hey, I can be a top 10 center for you guys and will take pennies on the dollar!" Not gonna happen.
