What LMA wants is a 1+1 with a promise to be resigned at the max after one year. He wants to play for the Spurs (total of $148 mil over 5 years)

Portland has offered the 5 year max (110 mil). Aldridge's camp asked for 1+1 with a resign to a max 5 year deal. Portland won't promise that. Over the next six years that's around $193,000,000. They will not offer Aldridge a 1+1 because they are afraid of him bolting anyway and they don't want to build around him to see him leave, then be stuck in a really bad rebuild situation.

They have been drumming up the Lakere interest because that's the franchise most likely to give him a 1+1 with max resign. He'll try to use that as leverage to get the same offer from Houston. Then he'll leverage that against SA in case they don't want to agree to it (And feeling is they absolutely won't). The other teams on the list are simply to put as much pressure on the Spurs as possible.

The problem is SA might give him the 1+1 but will likely promise to resign him for a minimum of $91 over the next 4 so it equals the same contract amount that Portland is offering at the 5 year max right now. He makes the money, pays less taxes, becomes a Spur, and gets to live in Texas. Everyone wins... except Portland.

The obvious problem with the 1+1 route is if he has a career derailing injury this year. Its a big gamble that he's struggling with internally.

His feeling is the Blazers are expecting him to sign with the Spurs on a 1+1 and then get that 90+ mil the next four years.

Take it for what it's worth, with a grain of salt, or whatever you want.

Passes the logic test to me though all the way through.

Money talks in every scenario. Does anyone actually think players would go to these lengths?

I don't get him not wanting to play the 5. Modern basketball demands that someone like him plays at least some of the 5.

Unless you have the Suns situation with 2 solid, mobile rim protectors, and one of them can hit jumpers. :D

Splitter comes handy against the Howards, Gasols etc.

Not every team will adopt a small ball situation. 55-60% inside scoring percentage can be banked more than mid 30% from the outside. Warriors won the championship because they played great team defense and had a very balanced approach, the "threat" of shooting openned up lanes for them and got heaps of layups.

LMAO!

Kings just Dumped Landry/Stauskas/Thompson (What King fans were offering us for Bledsoe) to the 76ers at the cost of a 1st round pick (and the ability for the 76ers to swap picks in 2 other drafts), all to clear room to sign Rondo.

I'm starting to think this is a dog and pony show, somewhat distracting everyone from the fact that it's really about the money, as usual.

It makes sense. Next year is the historic rise in the cap so current free agents with enough pull are trying to do two year contracts with player options so they can get ridiculous money next year.

I did not read the Blazers forum post as implying that he wanted to screw the Blazers. I read it that he wanted a handshake agreement that after a two-year contract with player option (that he would opt out of), he could sign a five-year max deal next season worth approximately 100 gazillion dollars. But Portland is uneasy about agreeing with that (probably for numerous reasons) so Aldridge is considering the Spurs and Suns, seeing if they could match or beat Portland's best (plus location tax rates play into these calculations as well).

Perhaps the Suns made a slightly better financial offer than Portland and San Antonio, but he is only using it as leverage.

Since it does seem to be 90% about the money 90% of time, I'll go ahead and guess that's the case here as well. And I'm starting to think there's a better chance of him returning to Portland than most people have been thinking. And unless the Suns have really blown away the other offers, I'm going to guess Phoenix is being used to get a better deal out of one of the other two.

I might be completely wrong but this is what makes the most sense to me.

Praying that I'm wrong.
yeah I figured it was done when that deal went done.

I hope they land Aldridge but it's a long shot.

But I will say after not liking the chandler deal I rationalized the idea behind it and I'm cool with the gamble.

Chandler essentially is an overpaid recruiter, rebounder and vet presence. But this team does need those things so **** why not gamble he helps get lma but if not still gives you thing u need.

Whats missing from this conversation is how much the Suns are offering LMA. I haven't seen anything that says what our offer is. Has anyone heard from reliable "sauces" what we are offering?

Even funnier:

The Kings will receive Arturas Gudaitis and Nikola Mitrovic in the Nik Stauskas trade.

And you thought Vlade Divac was done flopping when he retired from playing. These two guys were picked 47th and 60th in the draft for a guy who went eighth in the draft just last year. Sam Hinkie took Vlade to the cleaners on this one.

And besides The player formally known as Rondo, they are also going HARD after Wes Matthews.

Kings wtf..... I mean if they just couldn't resist signing rondo and monta fine deal stauskas.... but to risk pick swaps is just silly

Return to Phoenix Suns
