[quote="JDLAW"]I am not trying to rain on everyone's parade who thinks this is new stuff, but Woj's article is just a rehash of what has been stated many times in the past by McDonough. It is nothing new.

The difference seems to be the the trade deadline is 3 weeks away and there is an absolute paucity of trade rumors out there to feed the media's annual trade deadline feeding frenzy, which the media needs to drive hits on their websites etc… I do not think I have ever seen it this dead this close to the trading deadline.

I think there is a combination of factors, but the first is that there seems to be a great reluctance to trade 1st round picks in this year's draft, especially when the team does not know where the pick will lie. The second is that a number of teams that fell below expectations have already made the moves to clean up their caps and try to avoid the lux tax - see Chicago-Cleveland. Right now only 4 teams are above the cap and only one of them, the Lakers, appear to be in line to miss the playoffs. There is not much incentive for the other teams to shed salary to fall under the cap. The Lakers have only one real asset and he is hugely expensive from a salary standpoint. There are a number of teams that will fall below the cap next year, enabling them to bid on free agents.

Some teams do have trade exemptions though. That's why I said only T Young and J Green are realistic, the Celtics are looking to shed salaries, but do not really have to, same with the 76'rs. Both these guys are very similar.

It is the first time that we are looking for a short term and veteran adquisition:
The Suns have expressed a willingness to absorb a veteran player on a short-term deal who wouldn't compromise the organization's ample salary-cap space for the future, league sources said.

Until this article, McD only spoke about trade for young players that will be part of our core for the future.

So? It's a recent article talking about the Suns, and it has sparked a discussion. That's it.

What about.

Suns get:
Omer Asik

Rockets get:
Oak

The suns get a short term Center Defensive anchor. Asik becomes an expiring contract the following year so we could flip him around this time next yr or he can even be a asset with a bundle of picks for this summer for a star.
Oak is 14mil right now same money Asik would be making but he wouldn't be out of the entire year he would be productive.

From the Rockets side of view they clear cap without taking on any money basically they are playing to win right now without Asik anyway. It will also free them up with some cap during the FA period this year. You have a 3rd team come in and take a few 2nds for the Rockets to shed 1mil in salary for it to work

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.

Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

Qwigglez wrote:I think trading for Pau woud be great long term as well, because he could possibly help lure free agents this off-season. Luring Lebron to Phoenix with Bledsoe/Dragic is good, but luring Lebron with Bledsoe/Dragic and Pau would be hard for Lebron to turn down. Especially with our role players, who are far better supporting cast than the Heat IMO.
IDK just a thought.

Thank you, this put a smile on my face. Every time I think of a trade I try to put myself in the other teams perspective, and try to think if another team could put together another package. That's what makes every Love and Lebron talk so laughable. Any team trading for Love is going to give up either another star or a high lottery pick, same with Rondo. I gaur entree Lebron's not going to think who has the best role players when he's signing his next contract, and Dragic will have zero effect on luring Lebron.

they already turned down a expiring and a first round for Asik, their asking price is too high.

Len would be going to Atlanta. Its a high price, but we could be great with Millsap/Horford. As for if they would do it, i just posted it on the Hawks board, so we will find out soon.

I think you're overestimating Len's value around the league.

Don't underestimate Len's value to the Suns and McDonough - it is his first draft choice and he will get plenty of time to prove himself.

Asiks deal is horrible. The kid has barely played at all this season, and is set to make $15M next season. That is insane! It would be hard as f**k to try to flip him next season!

One deal that i saw on the trade board that i would be interested in is:

Okafor/Green/1st for Monroe/Smith.

One of the things that we complain about most is our defense and i think having a defensive minded young vet like Smith (28) would help get our ass in gear on the defensive end, and teach our youngsters what they need to do to get stops. Monroe would also be a great addition to the team and would give us that low-post presence that we currently lack. Yeah, he isnt known for his uptempo game, but then again the playoffs arnt known to be uptempo either!

Bledsoe/Dragic/Smith/Monroe/Frye Ish/Tucker/Morris/Morris/Plumlee

SMH. People still want to get rid of Frye. Dude is such a huge part of the Suns' success this year, and they want to ship him out. His contract is super reasonable for what he does, and he'll probably stick around for cheap for his next contract. His career outside of his rookie year was going down the tubes until the Suns turned it around for him. They stuck with him through the heart scare last season, and his game is not dependent on athletic ability. He'll keep doing what he does for years to come. If anything, his shot will get better.

EDIT: Edited because I accidentally left Sunsdeuce as the quoted poster when paring down the quote.

Maybe.

My biggest mistake was not realizing that Atlanta was 3rd in the east at the moment.

The Atlanta board, or at least the 2 posters that did respond to my idea, didnt like the idea very much, but then again one's answer was about as ill-informed as my idea.

IF that is Josh Smith -the answer would be No.

Horrible contract, over-rated player. He just is not as good as the money he is getting paid.

The key with Okafor is McDonough is dealing from a position of strength. If he comes off the books on 7/1, because of injury, Sarver saved some cash and they have a big expiring. If he is traded, more then likely it will be for one of two things: a good young player to build around (Love - though its not happening) or a player like GAsol where you still have the cap space - but you are helped out the last few months of the season

By the way, once we reach 100 pages, we will be going back to the old system of having separate FA and Trade threads. 8-)

Its not that people want to get rid of Frye. Everything you said about him is true. THAT is why he is valuable in a trade right now. He is absolutely worth keeping around, but you can't trade trash for treasure.

There are definitely people that want to get rid of Frye. People that lust after a traditional post-playing big man. People that don't see the importance of Frye's spacing, and his underrated defensive effort.

Frye definitely has some value around the league, but nothing coming back for him will be worth what the Suns have to give up with Frye leaving the team. Unless it's Frye for Love... I pass.

Frye is more important to the Suns than he is to any other team.

See, i dont see it that way. His numbers have regressed a bit this season, but he is stuck on a s**t squad in a s**t city. The 2 years prior, when he had some talent around him?

17.5points/8.2rebounds/4.2assists/1.8blocks/1.2steals
18.8points/9.6rebounds/3.9assists/1.7blocks/1.4steals

There are very few guys in the league that fill the stat sheets like he does, and even less that do it and also have a defensive presence.

How is it terrible Oak is making the money Asik will make next yr except he won't have a neck injury.
Plus wouldn't some of the contract be paid off by this time next year at the deadline.

Hey I never wrote that!!!! How did my name get on there? Seriously?!?!

For the record I'm totally against trading frye. He has so much value to the suns.
