Hi all!

I would like to participate in the upcoming season. I was in the Premier League last season but came in at a dismal 12th place thanks to Giannis single handedly killing my FT%.
Looking forward to the 28-29 season.

Right now I think we're capped at 16 teams...will keep you in mind at the top of the list. If something changes (like our league thinks it's ok to go up to 17 teams) I'll dm you.

What's the plan for the draft? Live or offline (here in board)?

We do it here on the board, usually with a pick clock to allow for time zone differences. We also encourage you to send a big board to another user for your next pick to keep things moving. (If you're 3rd in queue, send 3 players in the order you'd want them to another poster)
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Draft is oct 8th so submit keepers by then. mark your keepers with an x on the spreadsheet in the appropriate column beside your team roster. if not able to then submit them here or on yahoo etc. You can change your keepers at any time before Oct 8th.

draft order is in the spreadsheet under the draft tab.

any questions lmk

Anyone who posted in here recently or declared their keepers already was marked as confirmed on p1

If I trade the #4 pick for a player, am I then able to keep 8 players? Just referencing that rule in the spreadsheet

I had that question last year, because it makes sense that you should be able to, but then the problem is people that traded away firsts a long time ago could say "I should get 8 keepers then too".

I think basically the way to do it is make it a trade when on the clock. Set up and executed then, or agreed upon to pull trigger after the draft and you draft the player the person wants.

But the rule only came in 23-24 - I get your point though for sure.

And agree with the last part, that'll work.

The "forced to keep 7 if you trade your 1st" thing is just sort of implied by how trading/swapping picks works. It got recognized the year (20-21) we moved to the keep 7/8 rule. If you traded your 1st and kept 8, you'd come out of the draft with 13 players, since if you swapped the 1st for (for example) a 3rd rounder, your pick situation would look like 2, 3, 3, 4, 5.

In theory we could amend this by allowing teams to drop their lowest possible pick. But this creates a problem where then we have to create another rule where you can't trade your lowest pick. And scenarios where teams get an advantage over other teams by swapping 1sts becomes possible, too. Ex. lets both swap our 1sts since we both want to keep 8 and then we just drop our 5ths.

Now I don't think most managers here actually care about this particular rule to this extent, but this is the kind of thing going on behind the scenes of why this kind of rule exists, as multiple managers found out in 20-21 as they sat at the trade proposal screen wondering what would happen if they traded a first.

The best way to resolve this is just having a rookie draft, imo. But we tried moving to that last year and we couldn't come up with anything that really worked for us. I'll can try to dig up my old proposal if anyone is interested.

I still don't like the idea of a separate rookie draft, since that's part of the fun of the earlier rounds (do I take a rookie or a legit player early for a win now team). Seems easiest for Tastic's question to just make the trade while he's on the clock.

Tastic are you still doing those big fantasy spreadsheets?

I agree. One draft is much better than a separate rookie draft. Your reasoning for a legit player or rookie is spot on. Teams that are competing for a chip will likely draft veterans. That leaves more rookies available for rebuilding managers. For example, when I started I inherited a rebuilding team and only had Steph Curry as a legit star player. All the other players were fringe starters. This has been my draft profile since I took over.

18/19 (8th pick order) - Mo Bamba/Michael Porter Jr/Grayson Allen/Aaron Holiday
19/20 (1st pick order) - Zion Williamson/Tyler Herro
20/21 (2nd pick order) - LaMelo Ball
21/22 (13th pick order) - No rookies selected
22/23 (12th pick order) - No rookies selected
23/24 (7th pick order) - No rookies selected

I agree. If I think my team is competing, I sometimes shy away from rookies unless I feel there is some sort of obvious pick, but usually there isn't outside of the top 1-4 picks and even some of them bust.

Ok so Slim Charles and I have agreed on a deal - but we’re still a bit unsure when we can/should do the trade.

I have 7 players I want to keep - excluding the player I’d be acquiring for the #4 pick.

So is the cleanest/easiest way for me to just draft who Slim wants when it’s my turn to pick, then we do the trade? Or can we do the trade now where I essentially keep 8 and have no 1st rounder?
