One thing no one is mentioning is that our medical staff had to sign off on this I would assume/hope.
If they didn't feel comfortable on Bledsoe's knees then we would of forced a contract just like we tried with STAT.

letsgosuns wrote:Well I find this to be very exciting news. The Suns increased the team's offer by 22 million and Bledsoe went down 15 million from his demand. Pretty even overall. I think this goes to show something that I believed all along, Ryan McDonough wants to keep the guys he brings in and does not mind letting the previous regime's guys leave. I also think something else major has to be going on. I do not understand a possible Zoran Dragic signing when the Suns already have G. Dragic, Bledsoe, Thomas, Green, Goodwin, Ennis, and the new guy Jackson. Already seven guards for two spots and Z. Dragic would make eight. Plus, the Suns own the rights to shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovich who is supposed to have really good potential. So I think there might be a trade on its way because having 8 guards is way too much.
I also think McD finally overruling Babby and Sarver...
And I wont be surprise if he pays to keep his "acquisitions" and trade off the previous players... I can definitely see that happening.

From what I've read up, Bledsoe only got a small piece of meniscus removed.... not the entire thing, he still has meniscus, which is the key point. Maybe a 4-5 year thing before big impact to his performance, assuming no other injuries.
Wade probably got a bigger chunk removed... Brandon Roy barely had any, it was bone to bone.

You talk as if they worked against each other, when that is clearly not the case

I don't like the deal. The knife will twist for me if there is a trade kicker.
At least they got something done. That's a good thing.
I wonder if there is any possibility the Suns "caved", because there is a team out there that would like to do a SnT at these numbers, and the Suns like what they're offering. But, for some reason they can't do an SnT now. Or this team needs to make another move first. Something shelved for down-the-road Something that made the Suns say "Ok! We're not thrilled with the contract, but we like the possibilities it offers...later"
Yeah...you're right. There's no other team.

Can't be too frontloaded. He is making $14 million a year avg, and the highest he can start at is 14.7.
You can do 7.5% increases or decreases, so I suppose it could be something like
14.7, 15.4, 14.3, 13.3, 12.3
I guess that's fairly frontloaded.

Sarcasm aside, I as I've posted here the past three months, I don't think your franchise had a choice.
-You weren't getting fair value back in trade
-Letting him go to the QO would have resulted in losing the asset in nine-months.
-Hardballing him would have caused PHX to have a bad rap with other players that would have damaged your franchise
I would have just offered him 4/$63 and given him the opt-out after year 3. But maybe Rich Paul had to have five-years. The problem with the five year deal is that the final year could pay him between $15 and $18 million depending on structure. That's a boat anchor to prevent trades if he doesn't pan out.
In any event, he's a great player if he stays healthy. He makes you relevant this season.
5/70 is a much better deal for the Suns than 4/63. 14 a year instead of 16.

Supposedly, the Rockets did not match Parson's offer based on a demand by DH's agent, as Parsons and DH share the agent and this agent made Howard's arrival to the Rockets possible.
Not correct. They let him BECOME a UFA a year before they had to based on the agreement. The not matching was their own decision.
I believe by no means they thought Parsons would receive such a big offer...
I thought I read somewhere that they were going to offer him around 10 per year and hoped he wouldn't go looking for a bigger deal. Utah always said they'd match any deal but I don't recall hearing the Rockets say the same for Parsons.

Re: Offseason Thread 6: The Not So Mexican Stand-off Continu
Couple things:
I am not an insider. Traxxe is the guy to go to when stuff goes down, not me! I hear things from time and time and mods know that as well.
The deal was verbally agreed last night over a conference call and today was for the official signing in person. I got the text last night about but didn't see until this morning when I posted it on here. If I saw it last night, I would have posted it.
I don't know what happened with the other two mil.. I didn't take it. lol
#TeamBledsoe !!! Couldn't be any more happier. It's great to know we will be in the playoffs next season...

Maybe the words "over ruling" sounded like a debate or an augment happened..
But I'm more leaning towards "convinced".
McD convinced his upper management that Bledsoe is worth the coin.

Woj's tweet says it's a "Straight 5-year deal", which can be read as purely 14/year without adjustments.
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't frontloaded contracts worse for the player, as they diminish the max he can ask for once he negotiates another contract (based on last year salary, no?)

Should of held strong and bumped it up a little at the last second to allow Bledsoe to save face by getting us to increase. 5yr 70M is too much someone with risk and limited proof of production. Sure hope they look into trading him after he proves he can produce.
do not agree. this is a great contract. i love dragic, but if Bledsoe isn't our best player, then it's close. and with the rising cap, this will be a deal. i'd rather have this price for 5 years than this price for 3 w/PO.

It can only be increased and decreased from the base salary. So in your scenario you could only increase and decrease from 14.7, not from each year

Re: Offseason Thread 6: The Not So Mexican Stand-off Continu
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy about this despite the length and money.
1. If I recall correctly, he missed a few weeks due to a deep SHIN bruise firstly. That's fluky so I don't care about that.
2. The knees, while yes, are alarming, Wade had worse knees and played his prime mostly fine. EB is 24 and still has much of the meniscus. I thought I read that this years surgery was to FIX what they didn't fix after college. So it technically wasn't really a new injury.
Side notes:
3. Now we have a happy Bledsoe who knows this is his home for the next 5 years. He will look to become a co-leader next to Dragic.
4. This deal is for what he's done for us, his potential, and probably also the fact that the cap will start going up next year and it won't hurt us as much.
To add to that, if he DOES become a Westbrook clone of sorts, we have him on a super bargain. Remember, the Wolves and supposedly Lakers would have paid him max. Other teams (knicks) would have looked to do the same next year too. He's ours now.
Going forward:
5. While yes, we have the twins and Dragic to worry about next season, we have a TON of youth. We aren't yet forced to find another huge star because there's a chance we have one or two waiting in the wings.

I still think Bledsoe is suns best player.
When he had those 30 point games with 7 assists and rebounds he also had probably 4 steals and played top defense.
He was literally mini Lebron James.
If he can do more of that a season... He would be a bargain.

Dragic's combination of stats has been accomplished about 4 times in the past 20 years I believe. I like Bledsoe, but I don't think there's any question Dragic was our best player last year.
