Yes and no. Coaches can only do so much during practice and on the bench. Sometimes you need a locker room and on-court general. It's like when you were in school. The teachers and pricipal were authority figures, they told you what to do, but you didn't necessarily always listen. If a respected classmate or friend told you the same thing, you'd be more likely to listen. In a basketball environment, if a guy can go out and back up what they preach it means more than a coach that's been away from the game for a while and younger guys might think they're "out of touch". It's different with other coaches, obviously. Every player, young or old, would respect what Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich or Pat Riley told them. On the other hand, a younger coach with less success (i.e. Hornacek), not so much. I think Tyson is a great bridge between the coaching staff and the young team.
I don't think sometimes. I think it is a requirement ot have a locker room and on court general to keep the young ones in line. You think Duncan or KG take crap or allow nonsense to happen in the locker room. No way. These young guys that come into winning situations are put in their place real quick by veterans who have accomplished something.
No veteran leadership for the Kings ... lose lose lose
Took years for ZBo to pull his head out of his azz and moved to three different teams ... finally winning
Dude, I love your first sentence if taken out of context.
