So only PHX front office attended the Final Four in Belgrade?
Geez, Bill Duffy is already working.

I believe half the league had people there but we had the most executives in attendance (Sarver, Jones, and Connelly). McDonough has seen him a bunch and stayed behind to watch the combine and do media interviews.

The only way Ayton slides is if he we pick Doncic first. The furthest Ayton would fall is the #2. He's as good a lock for top 2 as anyone we've ever seen.

I think when you watch Ayton's game the biggest question for me will he be able to make those instinctive, quick reaction decisions. For example, seeing the proper defense/rotation ahead of time, seeing the proper pass ahead of time, etc. Basketball instincts are most important on defense. If he can see them I have no doubt he has the athleticism to get the job done. Alex Len never figured it out, Archie Goodwin nope, we wonder about Chriss sometimes and he is a very good athlete.

Some of videos showing problems/weaknesses with Ayton point out that he is standing around on defense instead of helping when he was in close proximity or he's looking too long to find the wide open man for a pass. In the NBA, when the difference between success on a offensive play or a defense rotation working is less than .5 seconds, and you can't see it ahead of time, then your athletic skills don't help as much. BBIQ, or instinct, anticipation, creativity, communication, leadership, the ability to learn new schemes quickly, are all hard to teach.

We see how Dudley even with inferior athleticism can be a pretty good defensive player. What I see in Doncic is a significantly more athletic Dudley (e.g., Doncic dunks the ball all the time versus 5x a season for Dudley). Then add on a masterful offensive game because of his BBIQ. He's naturally a leader and unafraid to correct 30 year olds who are out of position. It's funny because in a game thread last year someone said if we could just put Dudley's brain in Chriss' body we would have a superstar. Doncic's athleticism is greater than Dudley's and not as good as Chriss' but his BBIQ is Nash/Bird/Lebron/Magic level. People saw the BBIQ with Lebron when he was in high school. Same thing with Bird and Magic in college. Bird was never a superb athlete nor Magic. They just knew how to play the game better and smarter than most of the other players.

I have seen a lot of Doncic and I am pretty sure that his basketball IQ is not on that level.

You are talking about the players with better BBIQ in the history of the game....that is too much.

He takes good decisions out there, but he is not THAT good.

I can see and understand why Doncic drops behind Bagley and maybe Bamba, but that’s it. He is bigger and better than Trae. MPJ....injury, and JJJ role-player. But I’d draft him no later than 3 and that would be on a coin flip. I love Bagley as you guys know.

BW just quoted me saying history says pick Donic in a closed thread. Being the man that I am, I will admit that I have trepidation and I am scared as hell to go against my thought process like Portland did, not once, but twice!!!

The only thing that gives me solace or allows me to go against that thinking is Doncic inability to create like Jordan and Durant. I think Ayton is closer to Oden and Bowie than Doncic is to Jordan and Durant coming out of college.

Yea right. How about, “nah, I jumped the gun and put my foot in my mouth, because I was trying to make some people look bad because the guy I loved could possibly drop and make my draft board look like I’m inept. So I was making up an excuse why he could possibly fall.”

It's such a horrible problem picking first when you have these two elite looking prospects. We get the number one pick but then don't have a clear ... Anthony Davis, Tim Duncan, Lebron James type draft were there is a consensus number one. Or a least 95% of the people saying he's the one to draft. This is a freaking 50/50 split (or close too). Please let us pick the Jordan/Durant one of Doncic/Ayton. I don't care which one so long as we don't get Oden/Bowie-ized.

I am okay if both turn out to be superstars just as long as the Suns get one of the two!! End of the day - that of course is the player we all want. The one who turns into a superstar, championship caliber player

Btw. I hope that Ayton to Bowie and Oden comparison did t come off wrong. I meant the expectations surrounding the pick. I definitely don’t want Ayton to be the next Oden or Bowie :o

We'll nail this draft pick. Luka or DeAndre will change this franchise for good.

Unless you’re a Lebron-caliber can’t miss prospect I don’t see how you can draft a player if they don’t provide their medicals. I’m sure the Mavs would promise Doncic at #5 and he would provide them as well as Phoenix if they could get to 3-4. The lowest he’d go is #5 so it’s not a significant drop in salary.
