I'm happy with our choice. He's going to be good.

Ayton had very solid rookie year, but Luka and Trae will share all 100 votes for ROY between them.

I think he's gonna be 21 and 12 guy next year EASY, while hopefully getting his blocks up over 2 as well. Monty was there 1st hand for the development of AD and was there during the massive jump Embiid made this year from last. He knows big men, I wouldn't be surprised if Ayton was the main reason that we got him. Deandre is gonna be all-nba with in the next 2 years I'd imagine. We FINALLY have one of those at the C position

Ayton looks like he's trying to get on that Oubre wave but fashion isn't really his lane.

McGrady will probably be a better coach than Igor, who would have resigned in case the team signs Randle this summer.

Curious to see Monty's impact on Deandre's development.

Not sure how these grades are calculated but interesting break down and fit what I saw from the eye test with Ayton.

Its funny with Ayton and JJJ that they would be damn near the perfect pairing together to cover each other's weak spots. Memphis is going to build around JJJ so it's a moot point but I would trade like 3-4 1st rounders for JJJ. The thought of having Bridges, JJJ, Ayton as my 3,4,5 with Booker at one of the guard spots makes me want to faint with excitement lol

Lasts years draft was really something. Just a bunch of good players. Top 5 picks make all rookie team Really everyone was pretty much what we expected coming in, even these grades are essentially what was listed as strengths and weaknesses coming in right down to JJJs rebounding issues (I still absolutely love him as a prospect).

I guess there are combine numbers and actual in game ability.I was shocked to find out that Ayton's vertical leap is 43.5 inches & Amare Stoudemire's was only 32 inches.I would've guessed Amare was by far a better leaper.Guess it's all in the mind.Amare played like a 12 ft man trapped in a 6'10 body.Ayton plays like a 6'2 man trapped in a 7'1 body. For a 7'1 guy with a 43.5 inch vertical, he hardly posterized anybody this year.Maybe once or twice? I haven't seen this so called "monster athleticism" transfer to the court. He's more nimble/finesse.Not trying to knock it.I still think he could maybe unlock it.I'm just amazed to see a big man with those type of measurables play below the rim like he does. That being said, this was one of my favorite games from him last season

I wanted him to take 25-30 shots, but of course, they stopped feeding him.I really believe he could've averaged 20 ppg last year if the Suns had a legit pg

Amare's first step was insane which creates a lot of poster dunk situation.I have never seen a big like that he used to just face up his defender and blows by nobody was able to catch him and when he added the midrange to his arsenal it was like a pick your poison situation. What a shame that he never totally focused on defense and rebounding.

Josh was the only one to consistently throw dimes to Ayton all year.

The personnel moves this summer were about putting Ayton and Booker in better positions to succeed and be effective. James Jones is willing to lose a trade or give up assets if it accomplishes this purpose.

It is a refreshing change. I hope it works.

I wish somebody would remind him that thing called "defense" exists.

100%

I made a similar comment on another thread and I feel like we've wasted a lot of Booker's early years not focusing on getting him better but rather focusing on tanking and trying to find the next star when we have a star in Booker already. The first thing Utah did when they drafted Mitchell was make him a big part of the offense and by the end of the season, he was basically their go-to guy. By his second season, Utah was already building around him

I can not find anything, but I want to know if he is working hard this summer to improve his game. And I want to know if he is playing some pickup games with other NBA players.

I think only Suns/Ayton fan could make a case for Ayton as Roy. In the same way only Trae/ATL fans can make a case for Trae for ROY

The fact is Luka was the runaway favourite as soon as he showed he can not only play in the league but belonged. The Luka for ROY narrative started long before the season began and it only needed him to prove that he can play at the NBA level for that narrative to be given legs which it was when the Mavs went on an 8-3 stretch before the end of November. Ayton, Bagley, JJJr and even Trae were always starting from a different start line and they would need to not just belong but needed to be extraordinary to catch up. It didn't help either that Luka was truly extraordinary.

Some nice Ayton stuff in this article...

https://www.thestepien.com/2019/08/06/wendell-carter-second-year-breakout/

"Carter is not Ayton as an interior finisher, nor should he be utilized that way. Ayton has an elite size + touch combination where he can basically explode over the top of even bohometh centers with both consistency and efficient ease via mostly his right jump hook."

"Rookie rim protection stats. Ayton was over 70% on a legitimate sample earlier this year, so he's improved here. Jaren in elite company thus far. Wendell near rookie year Noel."
