Real talk though:

I'd rather have Ayton then Zion.

I'd rather have won the lottery last year AND I would not trade Ayton for Zion now.

I don't think I'm being Suns fan biased either. Ayton just put together one of the most impressive yet under appreciated rookie seasons in the last 15 years. He's already shown he is a sure thing.

Could Zion be better then Ayton? Sure! But our Ayton/Booker core is solid. And Zion is still an unknown.

Ayton might end up being one of the only guys in the league that can guard Zion. Real talk.

Regardless, 2 of the top 3 teams lotto teams fall out of the top 4, And 3 late lotto teams with very little chances statistically move up???

I'm happy for the Pels, But this should be fairly obvious fairly obvious that the stage is being set for major moments involving big market teams by the league.

Coulda been 7th for the record

Our highest odds by far were #6....almost double our odds for 1, 2 and 5...more than double the odds of 3 and 4. http://www.tankathon.com/pick_odds

yep.

In mentally prepping had mostly accepted it was going to be 6th going in.

I like White, and think he'll be there. So sure some disappointment, but hardly pulling my hair out with the results.

If Clarke is there at 6 and we pass on him to get White I will resign my fandom.

I really wish there was a flagrant option in addition to the and1 on this board for some of these posts!

I like white too. I think he actually fits the best next to booker of all the guards in this class because he can defend and shoot. I think he could make an immediate impact as a bench scorer.

Same, think I wasn't too upset because I expected to draft at 5th or 6th for a while now. I'm also highest on White and personally think he's above Culver and Hunter draftwise.

Noted.

If Clarke is the pick at 6 with White available...that's fine by me. It's all pretty much a somewhat educated crapshoot anyway with these 19, 20 YOs. Hyperbole and an NBA draft is an odd pairing IMO

Have to think NO makes are hard pitch to keep Davis now. This lottery should rejuvenate that franchise. Knicks should still go hard after Irving, but I doubt Durant has any interest. Barrett or Hunter would be good fits for them.

Suns remain in no mans land. Watching Doncic this year was painful enough and now tumbling away from an impact draft pick. Still no direction at all.

WeekapaugGroove wrote:Silver linings... As I stated earlier I truly don't believe there's much difference in talent from 2-6 in this draft class. They save a little cap space with the rookie deal. But maybe most importantly this will basically force them to go the vet route to solve their problems instead of talking themselves into someone like Ja being an immediate savior. Time for Jones and crew to get to work.

Yup. Plus I think they owe their pick to Boston next year no matter what so they might wanna draft RJ and pair him with Conley and JJJ. The Knicks would probably wanna trade Ja if they can convince KD and other to join but who really knows with them... :-?

I honestly haven't looked too in depth at any of the draft prospects besides Zion, Ja, Barrett. I saw a few clips of Clarke, but didn't pay too much attention to any other PG's besides Ja. I'll have to watch some videos tonight of White, Garland, Reddish, and other top guys.

A quick post-lottery analysis/top 12 mock draft:

New Orleans takes Zion. I think they keep Jrue regardless of whether they trade Davis or not. The chances of keeping Davis just went up but I still think he’s moved. Boston, Lakers, Clippers, and Knicks will all have good offers.

Memphis takes Morant and trades Conley. They won’t have a pick next year (owed to Boston) so they will be looking for more draft assets. Our #6 + Warren + Johnson is a very rich price to pay for Conley and I don’t think I do it - but I consider it. He doesn’t command a top 6 pick + pretty good players regardless of how weak the draft is, and I don’t think the Suns are willing to take that big of a gamble on Conley. The Milwaukee pick would be ideal. ALTERNATIVELY Memphis isn’t impressed by Morant and trades him to Phoenix for #6 + future first - I don’t see this as very likely at all.

New York takes Barrett but tries to package him in a trade for Anthony Davis. I don’t think New Orleans takes their package over a Boston/LA Clippers /Lakers offer.

Los Angeles wants to trade this pick at all costs. The 4th pick does nothing for them while Lebron is there, but it also doesn’t hold a ton of value. There is a chance of the Suns getting involved and walking away with Lonzo here. They will call all over the league looking to move this pick - I could see Kevin Love being moved for this pick. I think Culver goes 4th regardless of who ends up using this pick.

Cleveland gambles on Cam Reddish.

Phoenix wants to trade the pick at all costs. They talk to New Orleans about Jrue, Memphis about Morant/Conley, and LA about Lonzo. Garland or Clarke will be the pick if the Suns stay here, but they know they can’t go into next season without a veteran starting guard. Best case scenario imo is we get Conley and draft Garland/Clarke. I’d much rather have that then have landed 2 or 3 and only have Morant or Barrett.

Chicago takes Garland 100% if he is on the board, if not they look at Kevin Porter Jr, Romeo Langford, or Coby White. They won’t take Clarke because they are set at forward/center and would rather take a higher risk guard/wing.

Atlanta takes De’Andre Hunter.

Washington takes Clarke

Atlanta takes either Bol Bol or Jaxson Hayes

Minnesota takes Sekou Doumbouya

Charlotte takes whichever of Bol Bol or Jaxson Hayes is available.

Right? And Memphis also getting 2.

Kind of a wild swing for Laker fans... Get hopes up they are landing 1 then end up 4 in what is at most a 3 player draft PLUS with Zion going to NO that might end AD ever going to LA. Kind of funny.

This is the plan enacted by the league .......Clearly!........Just think about it for a bit.

The way it plays out,

1- The Pels get Zion, and the lakers magically luck into the 4th pick!!!

This sets up a deal this summer for the lakers to draft Garland at 4, And then trade him along with maybe Kuzma/ Hart/ And Ingram, etc. To the Pels for Davis.

Le Douche ' ( And the Lakers) get bailed out by the league, wherein with the Pels getting Zion as pre arranged compensation for trading Davis to the Fakers.

And to seal the Deal with a sweetener, the Lakers send Garland and their assets to the Pels, So they can keep Jrue( as Griffin said that they would) and have a starting rotation of Garland/Jrue/ Ingram/Zion/ Okafor. Plus picks.

Just watch it happen this summer.

Memphis gets Ja, So that they will be more willing to move Conley. Most likely to Boston to help Boston ( with the league knowing that Irving will be going to join Lebron in La.

***And Kemba will join Durant and Barrett in New York.

So all of the big market money makers are taken care of first, as always.

Same old story, They just changed the lottery format to attempt to make controlled decisions less blatantly obvious.

But it's ok honestly, as long as the Suns have a contingency plan hopefully.

Count me as one who is absolutely against a 31 year old broken Conley.

Return to Phoenix Suns
