After reading that this is the first time I've actually thought that LeBron may be more likely to leave the Heat. Those guys want a combined $30 million. If LeBron gets a max that puts them over $50 and they only have about $60 unless they dump Cole. I guess they can add someone, but it better be someone good....and then have someone else good available at the MLE.

If Riley saying they have $12 is true, then that definitely means they have to dump Cole or those guys can't get as much as they want.

Everyday this goes by, I think that makes the Suns more legitimate candidates for not only LeBron but Bosh as well. I mean ,if GAsol goes to OKC (great fit by the way Pau - great fit); and Gortat is off the market and Lowery might be going back to Toronto and Luol will want to get paid - makes it seem harder for LeBron and Wade and Bosh to make it work

come on down Lebron - come on down!

This is why you need good draft picks and inexpensive assets on rookie deals. Miami gutted their roster to sign the big three, they still have to do it to keep them. As long as Wade and Bosh want big bucks, LeBron can't win. Simple as that.

Sometimes you have to put yourself in a position to go significantly over the cap. Miami cannot do that. Its funny. If they had not opted out, Miami would at least have the mid-level exception to work with.

I wonder if that's just being put out there to be evidence against any potential collusion accusations.

Why is it so hard to believe it is what it seems? This story makes everything make sense.

I don't think there is a rule about players colluding. Teams can't do it, but I don't see any reason players can't.

As you astutely point out the Heat are in a tough bind. The new CBA is designed to prevent teams from being taxpayers year after year, which has the secondary effect preventing the accumulation of talent on localized spots if the players want to get paid.

I suspect that the "big 3 Heat players" are not acting in concert, but will see what Miami can put together before making any decisions. The problem is of course that they effectively have a semi hard cap at the cap as opposed to the tax limit and they need to fill a complete team. After signing the big 3 Miami has gotten by on veteran free agents who are chasing titles. There just are not that many out there at this point in time who will essentially work for NBA min wage while the big 3 eat up all the salary. They will have to give on salary demands or there will likely be no continuation of the big three in Miami. The cap and finances just do not work. Riley can rant and cajole all he wants, but the big 3 are getting up there in age and this will likely be the last big contracts for Bosh and Wade, they will likely take something less annually for additional years, but it will not be 50¢ on a dollar.

I really hope this is just the Suns driving the price up for the Celtics and Cavs. I have zero interest in signing Hayward to a long term deal.

Don't think his price needs driving up. He's a max/near max guy in this market.

What is looking very likely is that to sign anybody other than LeBron, the Suns are going to have to seriously over pay them. Bledsoe will get a max offer. Bradley's contract is ridiculous! And Hayward max??

The question for the Suns is whether they want to overpay this season and fill the cap or hold tight until next season where the FA's on offer will be better.

I don't agree. In the first few days of FA a lot of stupid money is thrown around, but it calms down within a week or so as the market begins to regulate itself. That said, there are definitely bargains to be had out there later in FA. And I don't think McD is keen on overpaying anyone.

I just unfollowed Channing Frye on Twitter because he just took a big runny dump on my feed.

For example, if the Suns sign LeBron at the max, Bosh at 15m, resign Frye at 6m, Bledsoe at 15m and then use the room exception on Al Farouq Aminu and maybe see if Grant Jerrett would bite on a minimum salary (or close to it).

Dragic/Ennis
Bledsoe/Green/Goodwin
James/Aminu/Morris/Warren
Bosh/Frye/Morris/Jerrett
Plumlee/Len

No one is overpaid in that scenario and the Suns are a DEEP team. In fact, there aren't enough minutes on that team, meaning the Suns could package the Morrii in a trade deal because their skills would be redundant. Maybe send them to Philly for picks (protected if an injured big man is available of course).
