Regarding Conley, if we were able to get him for Johnson, TJ or Jackson, and the Bucks pick, I'd do it. Conley would change the mindset of the our team on the floor.
Always have to remember, Nash was elite at this stage in his career. Conley is a different player but we're just talking 2 years. If we get him and next year is a flop, then we have a large expiring. It would show Booker we are trying to improve at least.

That's cool man, Nothing wrong with having differing perspectives I think.![]()
I guess for my part, I just don't see it as such a scary risk due to a couple of considerations, Those being:
First, With him only being 31 yrs old, I personally think he fits our timeline nicely given his balanced blend of veteran tenure and playoff experience, While still having put up great numbers for the grizzlies last year. Also his passing and leadership would be a very welcome commodity on our young team.
I mean just this season he was averaging: 21 points/ 6 assists/ and 3 rebounds. Also, in a trade with Tyler Johnsons' expiring, along with TJ Warren/ We maintain our cap space, AND given the current front office instability in Memphis, Conley being unhappy with their coach being fired, their proclivity to rebuild, along with the size of Conleys' contract (*** and recent injury) also being a determining factor to his value, It really shouldn't cost us anything more than an expiring( T. Johnson) and a young promising player( Warren) to make the deal happen.
This would not only allow us to keep our lotto pick this year ( Morant or Clarke?), Or possibly trade back, ***IF a good deal is there? But it also allows us to focus the entirety of our cap space in free agency on depth at the power forward and other positions(perimeter shooting??)
Maybe Aminu/Beverly or perhaps Gibson/ Collison?
And then, in another season or so, When he becomes that huge expiring, Maybe trade him for a big name max player on a comparable contract( Griffin perhaps?). I'm sure either Detroit or even Orlando might prefer a guard of Conleys' ( or Lowrys') caliber compared to what they would currently have for next season perhaps?![]()
I also like the idea of him being able to possibly be mentor a Morant/ Garland/ or Coby White ( or whoever really) for a season or two, until that prospect is ready to take over. And again, Then you just can decide to flip him in a trade for that big piece.
However, IF the Achilles injury is just too much of an unacceptable risk to consider, As my previous trade proposals suggested, The money in a trade for Lowry also matches up nearly perfectly too. And he becomes an expiring same as Tyler Johnsons' contract would expire too next season, And also offers similiar production to boot.
So those are my basic reasons for seeing Conley ( or Lowry) as the most realistic option and best overall fit for our teams' needs currently. But also, with perspective for a bigger plan to hopefully materialize from either players' acquisition. So acceptable risk at least from my perspective. But again, I respect your differing perspective equally as well.
I agree, if he’s healthy he would be a great fit, even if he’s overpaid. I just think Achilles injuries are too scary to mess with. I think there are a lot more options at point without the risk of losing 1/3rd of our cap which would probably result in us losing Book. I think I would even prefer to just run with Tyler at point (hopefully we do better then just Tyler)
I definitely hear what you're saying man. My hope would be that our long standing reputation for having a renowned and knowledgeable medical/training staff would come into play here and that we'd be relatively sure of his durability during his contractual years here.
Otherwise we can of course explore other options as a plan B( Lowry) or plan C( Collison/ Joseph).
I, for my part would not be so concerned about losing Booker and having our cap space being tied up. We'll be much more competitive and probably even fighting for the playoffs. So Booker will be satiated.
I just feel that Conley could obviously help us make the playoffs a lot easier than Tyler Johnson probably could. Which is what Booker and most of us want and hope for anyways. And this also indirectly makes us more desirable to free agents going forward as well.
Also, in trading for Conley, We exchange our two biggest contracts in Tyler Johnson and TJ Warren for a high quality player (that addresses one of our two areas of greatest need).
If need be, We've addressed our point guard issues, So even IF we miss out on Morant, We can just trade back and take Clarke or Kabengele( increasing our cap space a bit in the process).
Then we (If we so choose) could move Jackson to Indiana for McDermott or TJ leaf ( allowing us to maintain our TJ on the roster...lol)
And Indiana could probably use a defensive small forward to backup olajdipo anyways, in case of injury.
But again, trading for Conley or Lowry allows us to now use the cap space which we were going to attempt using on both positions, Solely towards our power forward position( Aminu for Bobbie L.
And then we can still address veteran depth with Beverly using our exceptions( MLE/ BI ANNUAL), and then resign Oubre last.
Finally, As a bonus Conley expires right around the time when Both Ayton and Bridges would be up for their extensions as well.

What makes you think that wings with great shooting are valuable? Suns has one and everybody wants to trade him.

In that trade idea we are trading Tyler Johnson (who some people just want him to be waived because he is big time overpaid and expiring), Josh Jackson (who is one of the worst players in the league for now and we need to decide about his future now) and whoever from Spalding/Fredette/Okobo/Melton.
The only valuable asset would be the 2020 first round pick...but if we improve and it is Top 7 protected that would not be a big deal.
I thought I read TJ Warren + multiple picks.
But, even if we only traded Tyler + Josh for Conley I still wouldn’t pull the trigger. Achilles injuries are very scary and Conley would consume 1/3rd of our cap for 3 years.
I understand the risk, but EVERY player in the league can have a big injury next season...you never know.
We did not trade for Beverley probably because he had an injury the prior season, and he has played pretty well and has been healthy all season long.
Conley and Lowry are healthy now and they can play on a high level for at least another couple of seasons.
I hear you, every player can get injured. But I view Achilles injuries as a different animal from other injuries types. When you combine this with Conley only making 5m less then wall next season I would be to scared to pull the trigger. Conley and Bev have very different contracts.

I think Gallo played most of the year at PF this year and did a pretty good job there. He seems to fit better at that role than Warren IMO.

Warren is a good scorer, But the problem with him is in that he often spends more time on the injured list than he does on the floor.
Furthermore, he has shown to have tunnel vision and never passes and doesn't really play defense either.
This basically diminishes some of the positives of his decent contract, as you're basically still paying for a part time oft injured 6th man "scorer only" type and it seems that our team is currently trying to embrace a more versatile and defensive style of play.
He's still of value of course, But given our more pressing needs at point guard and power forward, as well as Oubres' scoting and defensive abilities as well as Bridges too, He (along with Jackson most likely) becomes the odd man out due to his contractual value in a trade that will help us balance our roster better.

I like Conley and Jrue, but Simmons is on another level. I'll never understand why Suns fans shoot for mediocrity. Stockholm syndrome I guess. If he's even slightly available then he should be at the very top of the Suns list.
Ben Simmons is not that good. He cant shoot free throws or shoot outside the paint. sixers will never win with him as long as he plays this way. He's too easy to gameplan for.

He's on a very elite list of players here, though he is tied for the oldest of the group.

He had a really good year. His best rebounding #s of his career at 6.1 rpg (career is 4.9 rpg). But he is more injury prone than TJ, averaging just 47 games per year the last 8 years...this was the most he has played...68. I don't know that I'd want to pay over $22 million for a year of him at 31 as injury prone as he is.

I trust the medical staff as well, so if Aaron signs off on it I would feel better. I wouldn’t bet on that happening though, the stats on missed games for Conley the last 4 seasons are insane.

DRPM...but I'm not sure how useful it is since it's cumulative. I think looking at the most recent season is probably better to see where people are at.

I, for my part, would not be so concerned about the possibility of losing Booker and having our cap space being tied up, As we'll be much more competitive and probably even fighting for the playoffs. So Booker will be satiated.
Also in becoming more competitive, We'll of course generate more revenue from more games played....in addition to increased ticket sales and t.v. revenue.
Then we (If we so choose) could move Jackson to Indiana for McDermott or TJ leaf ( allowing us to maintain our TJ on the roster...lol)![]()
And Indiana could probably use a defensive small forward to backup olajdipo anyways, in case of injury.
But again, trading for Conley or Lowry allows us to now use the cap space which we were going to attempt using on both positions, Solely towards our power forward position( Aminu for Bobbie L.).
And then we can still address veteran depth with Beverly using our exceptions( MLE/ BI ANNUAL), and then resign Oubre last.
Finally, As a bonus Conley expires right around the time when Both Ayton and Bridges would be up for their extensions as well. That's 30 million off of the books, or to be used in a trade for a max player if need be.
Aminu is Week's guy - I am just riding on that band wagon

Exactly, i mean knowing the history of a player is fine and useful in some aspects, this is a "What-Have-You-Done-For-Me-Lately" League. I could care less about what a guy did his first 5 seasons in the league, would rather know what he has done the past 3 seasons to judge what im expecting from him next season. Ive seen people on the Trade Board try to pull stuff like that, using like career stats and career injury history to make an over the hill past his prime guy seem way better than he has been for the past 2-3 years. The posted list doesnt mean a damn thing to me. Shumpert at #5....and Harden all the way down at #31? Nene as the 2nd best C? Sometimes you need to trust yourself and what you see rather than a specific list of stats put out by ESPN or any other Sports Website.

Nothing wrong with that man, Aminu is definitely a great and versatile defender, and I'd love to have him, if we could find a way.
I kind of see him as a slightly bigger version of Bridges. Or perhaps a better version of Luc mbah amoute?
Personally, I'd love to get some rugged, high IQ, very tenacious versatile veteran defenders ( that can hit the 3) on this team for added depth.
I'd also love to see our team transition back to a run a gun style of play, But with a trapping style of defense, that would lead to more fastbreak opportunities as well.
Either way, I wouldn't mind him on our team, If we could get him from Portland?
Any idea as to what he might command in free agency? Or if Portland has the money to retain him?

If they are to go after 2 max contracts, they'll have to move him or let him walk. He could be obtainable for sure. His shooting would seriously help us. Could be an underrated move that could catapult our team.
What makes you think that wings with great shooting are valuable? Suns has one and everybody wants to trade him.
I think many people are still hesitant to believe Warren is the real deal with regards to his shooting. Still a semi small sample size.
