Not to open up old wounds but man if they had drafted Luka last year they would have a ton of options at C this summer. Randle would make some more sense as a small ball C, cappella is supposedly available in a trade, Jaxson Hayes would be a possible draft target, brook Lopez would be an interesting FA target, I'm a 'never boogie cousins under any circumstances' guy but I guess even he could be a target.

We already have two suspect defensive players in Booker and Ayton. We need to surround them with defenders. Bridges is it at SF but we need a defensive PG and PF. People need to quit suggesting on-trick offensive players and start looking for supporting cast members who play defense and can hit the three.

Yes but one person can destroy a team. If you have a single person that isnt trying as hard as others, someone that doesnt share the ball, someone who is always doing their own little thing and ignoring the others they can and will destroy the team.

If the suns had like 40 mil in cap space I'd be fine adding a guy like randle purely from an standpoint of it's good to add talent. Problem is the suns have limited space and signing Randle would probably be the only significant thing they could do and it wouldn't address some major weaknesses.

Also it takes post touches from Ayton.

Personally, I would love the Julius Randle addition. He would be such a huge upgrade at the PF position. I really like the way he's improved his body and conditioning. He uses his body really well and has great physical tools. Monty williams would be the perfect coach for him. I think him and Ayton could potentially be great together.

Freeing up the cap space may be difficult but is doable....

trade TJ/JJ for JR Smith then waiving him immediately would open up some cap room .... gambo was talking about that yesterday

Melton in VanVleet role would have the same impact on Offense but with better defense.

We are comparing 2 bench PG's. I would take a 6'4 defensive melton over 5'11 VanVleet long term.

It's going to be so interesting to see if Jones moves this offseason are going be splashy types that win some good PR but might not be the best fits or more the under the radar signings/trades that won't win a news cycle but put a good TEAM on the floor. Maybe he can do both. One of my biggest complaints with mcd is I never felt he had a good feel for how to build a roster that made actual sense and was always more just a collection of guys.

What gives me some hope is Jones was a role player who should in theory understand the importance of fit both on and off the floor.

I think that he is going to be following the Spurs model; they sign some players out of no where that come in and fill a role that is clear and defined. This seems to be as much of a pattern of success for them as anything else. look at the player moves he has made so far.. Tyler Johnson a player that comes in and fights hard works his butt off, Kelly Oubre who came in and fought hard and was key emotional person on the team and Jamal Crawford who everyone of the players in post season interview praised and wanted back.

I hope we sign Fred VanVleet !

Let’s get him ! Y’all are obsessed with trash.

For the salary, productivity, I would take Melton 100% of the time ! FVV has a role playing 30+ min on the bench on a winning team!

When Melton has FVV experience he will be better on offense and definitely on defense

Sure, so would I and a lot of people here.

But when you say Melton is better than FVV right now you are objectively wrong and people are correcting you. That doesn’t mean they’re obsessed with FVV.

Melton is not terrible. Though I would prefer FVV.

My guess he goes for good quality that fills out the rotation over more name players. Meaning Aminu over Randle. Randle might be the bigger name - Aminu might fit better.

Unfortunately Randle wouldn't fit with Ayton. Aminu would be a nice upgrade. Russell/Brogdon might be better in the long term.

Did you hear that the Wizards want Ball? Lakers would get Beal which makes perfect sense.

I really didn't think my little tonge in cheek remark on FVV would cause such a stir :)

We need good players, period. It's a false narrative that all we need is defensively oriented role players. Last year we were closer to league average on defense than on offense.

Randle has his flaws but he would make the Suns a better team. He has a great motor and would improve us offensively and on the glass, which was a huge problem for the Suns last season. Randle is just entering his prime and still has some room to improve. He probably would help us more than Aminu or Thad Young.

Randles motor is questionable on defense. He plays hard when he has the ball because he likes to get buckets and he is a natural rebounder.

One of my biggest concerns is if they want to develop ayton to his fullest potential then having another mouth to feed in the post is a detriment to that. Especially one that doesn't help cover his shot blocking and while randle can shoot some 3s he's not a guy defenses fear to leave and not double the post. Plus another guy in the post crowds things for bookers iso game, something he's good at.

Waiting for the AD stuff to play out, but IMO he is going to request a trade still and the Pelicans are going to want to rebuild immediately.
Trade the 6th pick, Tyler Johnson, Josh Jackson, Bucks pick for Jrue Holiday. Use the MLE to sign Julius Randle. Keep Oubre.

Jrue / Book / KO / Warren / Ayton + Bridges/Randle/Okobo
