Dump Morri, get LMA for nothing.

Dave King is saying we only need to clear 9 million. Tucker and Marcus. Keep Kieff.

This. No reason whatsoever to gift Portland real talent back here. If they refused, we could offer Dallas a pick to sign and trade for Chandler instead and move Tucker and Marcus separately to create $20 mil to sign Aldridge into.

Markieff shouldn't be traded. Bledsoe damn sure better not be traded in this type of move. It's one thing if Aldridge is already under contract, but giving Bledsoe up to sign an FA that we can create the space to sign anyways is just

Duncan 39
Ginobili 38
Parker 33

The window would be small for LMA and the Spurs. I don't see Leonard and LMA carrying a team.

If the Blazers want they can take marcus morris and PJ Tucker LOL. I'd roll on the floor laughing if we fleeced those salaries and got Aldridge

I'd be open to Kieff+ maybe one of the protected MIA picks/or one of our own. But Bled is a ridiculous asking price when PDX knows they are out the running and LMA feels charitable enough to force a S&T to give them some assets (that is if he really wants to come here)

Which makes me think trading for Haywood's expiring makes sense giving the cavs marcus morris and PJ Tucker as shooters they need.

Someone answer my question...if we sign and trade with Portland, can we offer more money and years than we would have been able to by signing him out right?

Or is sign and trading with Portland only beneficial for us to clear cap space?

So Chandler and Aldridge has to be under cap, so why are we planning to give up assets for UFA?

Could possibly see us acquiring Amare if LMA falls thru. Amare/Chandler played together in NY and in Dallas.

Yes. LMA could receive the true max, 5 years with 7.5% raise every year vs. 4 years with 4.5% raises every year.

The S&T may be attractive to him to:

1. Get some talent back to Portland
2. Get dollar bills

Having the assets to do a S&T, and thus getting LMA more money, could actually be part of our pitch.

My take: If Chandler gets us LMA, it's a brilliant move. If not, it's a terrible move. He will be 33 at the beginning of the season. Wright will be 28. Wright is already one of the most efficient players in the league. He could have been a huge asset for us in 2-3 years when we have the tools to win. Chandler will be declining significantly in 2-3 years.

Without any other additions, this looks like another battling-for-8th-seed team. Purgatory.

If we get LMA over the Spurs, there should be some sort of celebration in Phoenix. They would have traded Splitter for nothing.

No that is against league rules now. He cannot sign for 5 years and get traded. They changed the rules in 2011. He only gets the max 5 year contract if he signs with Portland and stays there. If he is signed and traded, the max is four years.

Yup. Blazers FO doens't want to help other teams to clear cap space in pursuit of him and are still salty because they took LMA for his word and got burnt and still believe they are in contention with the texas frontrunners

Makes sense.

Probably started out something like...

"Okay LaMarcus here are the many ways we can get Kobe the ball..."

OK I see the S+T requirement there.

We could force Portland's hand by offering a good package and they tell LMA you only get 5 years with Phoenix.

that's a great point. i don't know the answer to that question...thought I read something about the new CBA eliminating that advantage somehow but it seems like that would be the case

It's a little early to be so black and white on the deal. The fourth year could be a team option. There could be non-guaranteed money.

No. They don't. One of them does, but we have flexibility in which one to get via S&T. Lots of flexibility.

Key is: $12 mil in cap space.
PJ and Marcus can create $10 mil in space. PJ should be easy to trade to any contender. Marcus, due to the legal issues, may need a pick attached.

We can sign people in any order into the cap space. The only certainty is that any of our bird rights will have to be last, so that means Knight is last.

So, if Portland wanted a king's ransom for Aldridge (Bledsoe), we could simply trade PJ and Marcus, sign Aldridge, and then do a S&T to get Chandler.

Or, if we wanted to keep Brandon Wright, we could S&T for both and not renounce his rights, but that would almost certainly have to mean Bledsoe is out, which wouldn't make sense.
