Bud ran back to the locker room after the win, head racing with optimism. Tonight's the night Mrs. Budenholzer let's him move back in, for sure (or at the least spend the night to see where things go). Bud slowly deflates the air mattress in the storage room and rolls it tight, making sure to get all the air out. He opens his Motorola Razr flip phone and begins to dial, nervous energy pulsing through his fingertips...

At least we know that even if we don't get the title, neither will the Nets. And if it ends up being Suns/Bucks, that would be so great. Milwaukee fans seem really dedicated too.

Bucks so lucky - blown out first two games, KD stepping on the 3pt line on his OT shot, can't score almost 4 mins into the OT, yet made it to the next round.

Maybe lucky with the injuries but they showed resilience coming back after getting blown out to take 2 and then blowing that game they had in hand. They kind of got unlucky at the end tonight with that Harden banked 3 on great D, some crazy offensive boards my the Nets, dumb fouls called on Harden and Lopez not knowing the shot clock (though that wasn't unlucky but stupid).

KD, despite the huge game, just kind of choked stepping on the line and then airballing at the end. He has choked in other series too before he road with the Warriors to titles, like choking away that lead on the Warriors when he was in OKC.

I think KD was pretty incredible. He carried that entire team and hit that near impossible shot to send it to OT.

This series was nothing but a glowing endorsement for his legacy imo

I love that the teams remaining in the playoffs are the Clippers, Suns, Bucks, Hawks/76ers.

Parity is so important to keeping a league interesting and it being a genuinely great product. Dynasties are great and all, don't get me wrong, but no one wants to see the same 2-4 teams every year in the finals. It gets old and people start tuning out of regular season and early playoff games. So while the Finals itself may get high ratings, overall it's a bad product.

In terms of the Suns, none of these teams really scare me. Atlanta actually gives me the most worry because they just matchup very well against us, (though I'm rooting for an Hawks-Bucks matchup in the ECF) but I still think we win that series over 7 games.

Frankly, this might be the most wide open path to a title we've EVER had. While the CP3 COVID stuff hurts, it's happening at the beginning of the series which means we will likely have every opportunity to battle back. We've seen 3 teams so far these playoffs come back from down 0-2 to win the series, I think this group of Suns can definitely get into that mindset and make it happen.

I think Nash did a terrible job coaching. Budenholzer really managed the minutes of Giannis - starting in the first quarter with the TV timeout. Nash could have done that with Durant. Buy him a minute here, a minute there. Anytime Giannis took a free throw - major opportunity to steal some time for Durant.

I wouldn't say Durant choked though. Joe Harris was terrible. Open look after open look and he missed Harden - as usual - stops the ball. I am going to say it - until Harden learns to move the ball - his teams will not win. I think he is overrated. The refs bailed him out early with foul calls that were no business being called. I know they missed Kyrie but maybe not making that trade would have been better for the Nets to have a team. Dinwiddie hurt didn't help either

I am happy for PJ Tucker. Guy deserved the win. He is such a baller - he got screwed on some fouls but he just keeps playing.

Nash went full Dantoni with his rotation and they could only score 2 points in OT.

That is exactly what I thought. The "suspension game" where the Spurs wore down the Suns late and the Bowen three won the game. I am not saying Durant makes that last shot if he had only played 51 minutes but with TV time outs - Nash could have managed his minutes much better. YOu telling me Deandre Jordan was that bad he couldn't play 2-3 minutes of defense on Lopez. I know its hindsight. But it was exactly what I thought - over playing the starters.

Not too many teams do. He is 7' feet tall, two steps he is from the three point line to the basket basically. Just like if the Suns do reach the Finals and the opponent was the Nets and Durant - those are "good problems" to have this time of year.

Nets' last possession was terrible. 13s on the clock just to let Durant do his stuff being probably dead tired already. No urgency, no attempt to set a screen. They deserved to lose. Nash's criticism is probably deserved as well.

Crowder and Ayton are just fine to slow down Giannis.

Oh yeah, he was incredible. I was just surprised at the airball at the end. The Bucks did do him a favor though putting the corpse of PJ Tucker on him.

I don't watch Giannis much, but I do remember in the all star game last year when they actually tried on defense because they were playing for something, I thought Giannis' D on LeBron was unbelievable to watch. If he played D like that on KD, he would bother the hell on him. And he has that length that could at least both KD a little. Tucker has no length. Middleton doesn't have much. I just don't get it.

But don't get me wrong with that post. KD was the best player left playing in the playoffs last night. But it doesn't change the fact that he hasn't gotten over the hump except when he took that route to play in GS. Now he did basically carry that Nets team on his back in that series though, against a phenomenal Bucks team who is healthy and just swept the defending EC Championships in blowouts, so it's impressive.

I thought the Bucks matched up with them pretty well even if they had been healthy, but that was when I expected Giannis to guard KD. I also didn't expect Jrue and Middleton to play bad in so may games.

I mean KD had the corpse of Blake Griffin, Bruce Brown, Landry Shamet, Joe Harris, Jeff Green and a gimpy James Harden for the last 3 games.

The Bucks beat the same team with Kyrie though in games 3 and 4...so they fought.

So I would say I expect the Bucks to easily beat the next team they face, but I would have thought they wouldn't have had such a tough time in the last 3 games against KD with a bunch of not great role players.

Philly was obviously the best team in the regular season, even with Embiid out over 20 games, and the Hawks are on fire.

Oh yeah, it's super wide open. This Clippers team is decent, but without Kawhi, who to me is the best playoff player in the NBA, they are not that scary. Kawhi is what made them great and really scary. Of course if Kawhi is back at all they are the team I wantetd o face the least. And although we had to go through LeBron and Jokic, the Lakers were never very tough after AD went down. How we took down the Nuggets was impressive but of course the Murray injury made things really tough for them.

Now the east is tougher. The remaining teams are all relatively healthy. Embiid is a little banged up but he's been playing pretty well. The Hawks are missing Hunter but they have a lot of depth and he's only a 2nd year player and the Bucks are healthy. We should at least make the finals and I like our chances once there. It's interesting we've played so well against the Bucks and Sixers the last few years. Even when we won 19 games a couple years ago we swept the Bucks.

I think 538 is disrespecting the Hawks a bit. They have us now with a 42% chance of winning the championship. They have the Hawks at 1%. The Hawks don't really seem to have a weakness. They are not great defensively but they are never out of a game.

Both teams were really only going 6 deep. A 7th guy a tad (Forbes/Shamet). They both rode their starters big time. I think in a game 7 these guys have enough adrenaline to carry them. Obviously KD was on fire throughout.

Return to Phoenix Suns
