Oh yeah, Bol Bol might be my draft crash at 6 rn, since no one will trade up in this **** draft and we'll probably need to swing HARD.

BobbieL wrote:oddity wrote:With that said I've been going back and forth between him and Garland. Brandon Clarke is a great package of athleticism, touch, defense, and rebounding, but is his ceiling high enough for the #6 with no jumpshot? I also agree with some who have theorized the Lakers will grab Garland because of the Klutch connection, but who knows really?
What I've realized in my years of following the draft is that uncertainty is a sign of an overall weakness in talent. Last year seemed so easy to get a clear picture of which players outranked others, but this year feels much more murky. Last year there were a strong 7/8 guys that had serious all-star potential. This year who are the outstanding can't miss prospects outside of the top 3? Hunter, Garland, Clarke, White, Culver, all seem like solid rotational players but none jump off the page as surefire stars.
I think if the Suns keep the pick and they get a rotational player that has a skill: maybe its like Clarke rebounding, defense, or shooting or whatever - thats fine. The Suns need role players too. Granted, if they draft the right player and he blossoms like Lillard (meaning keeping the 6th pick) or trading down and the guy becomes Giannis like - fine. But, role players are also needed. Maybe that is why Clarke is intriguing - just need him to be a rebounder, hustler, defender. As Mark Jackson says, things that you can bring to the floor every night.
I agree. The Suns don't necessarily need more star power on the team, Ayton and Booker can be our stars. What they need is guys that can cover up for the weaknesses that those 2 have. Defense, toughness, maturity and the ability to close out the tight games. They need some glue guys who wont mind doing the dirty work.
Clarke seems like just that kind of dude. Hachimura was the guy who got all of the attention but Clarke made the Zags run. He's already used to doing the little things, he could fit in great with Booker and Ayton.

I counted 6 22yo seniors who were invited to the combine.
Cam Johnson
Charles Matthews
Quinndary Weatherspoon
Eric Paschall
Dylan Windler
Brandon Clarke
And if Talen Horton-Tucker gets drafted, he might be the youngest EVER to do it.

I like Clarke, but there are some legit cons on his game/profile.
He is old for real. He will be 23 before the start of the season. Upside is limited because he lacks shooting yet at his age.
He lacks shot creation too, he does not have perimeter skills at all...overall he is limited on offense.
His defense is pretty good, but I do not expect him as a dominant defensive player in the NBA because of his size (6'8, 220 lbs) and average wingspan (eye test).
Really difficult to be an intimadating defensive frontcourt player with that height in the NBA. He is a PF/C and he is gonna be undersized.
I think that we probably can get a similar production from someone like JaMychal Green or Ed Davis...players who can play PF/C and does not commit mistakes, are good defenders and rebound really well.
Role players are easy to get in FA.
I seriously would try to trade the pick for a veteran starting PG, that position is gonna be more difficult to be filled.

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion - Suns with 6th pick!
Im standing with Clarke or bust.
I see people saying the draft is garbage and to trade the pick, but if the draft is so trash, then why do you think we would get any value for the pick? As for the "We dont need another Youngster" crowd, let this sink in for a minute, Brandon Clark is a month OLDER than Booker. Yes, he is older than Booker. As a matter of fact, there is only 2 players older than him on our roster and under contract, Warren & Johnson.
Clarke is one of those older, more seasoned and experienced guys that championship teams end up drafting towards the end of the draft (Usually in due part because of age) that helps the team out right away and people wonder how the team got so lucky grabbing towards the end of the 1st round.
He seriously checks every box (except for 3 point shooting).
Seriously, if you havent given this a read, do us and yourself a favor and read it, it will breakdown Clarke's game, the impact he will have, NBA comparisons, how he can make any team a winner, and even how him being older is a plus and can help when it comes to future capspace. Its probably the most knowledgable, in-depth article you can find on him, so if you have any questions, JUST READ THE DAMN THING!

He is a PF, not a C. Draymond Green doesnt seem to have an issue being a intimidating defensive frontcourt player, and he is an inch shorter. PJ Tucker is 6'5 and his size/height hasnt been an issue with him defending much taller PF's either. Its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.
As for his age, yup, he is older, cant dispute that. But one thing that article points out is that he will be in his "Prime" at the end of his 1st cheap rookie contract and going into his 2nd, so in a way, you will end up getting a prime player for much cheaper than if he was entering his 3rd contract while in his prime.
Stepien nailed it, he is a Jordan Bell type of player, but with better defense and much much much better offense. In my eyes, thats perfect.

Draymond Green has a 7'1 wingspan and at least 20 lbs on Clarke. I'm not totally out on Clarke but his wingspan is not ideal and it does matter.Kerrsed wrote:Saberestar wrote:Fo-Real wrote:

Marion is another guy mentioned with Clarke and he had over a 7ft wingspan.

He's actually considerably bigger with 4 inches of wingspan and 3 1/2 inches in standing reach.
These were NOT good measurements for Clarke.

That is exactly what I expected about Clarks wingspan. He is a T-Rex as far as NBA players go.

Cam Johnson worked his way out of being a 2nd round pick. Im expecting him to go somewhere between 22-30.
For me its:
Clarke at #6
Ponds at #32

I want to talk myself into Clarke but seriously are there any examples of PFs with his wingspan and standing reach who have excelled?
