Re: Season Speculation, Trade Ideas & Discussion Pt. 6
I would expect a pick swap with Cleve and a tossing in Warren and may be #20.
If it was just pick for Love... well, you can pick me up on the way.
Who knows.... if Cleve goes blow up, may be Warren, #20, and the worst of our first next year? They could be selling low just to move on.....
doubt it.
Im curious as to what we do with possible 5 picks this year.

I wouldn't even pick swap in the top 7 (ie #4 for #6) for Love.

When LeBron leaves... The Cavs might be interested in a small forward.
Depending on who Suns pick... They may be able to make a trade for the Nets pick... Assuming it's outside the top 7.

I think there's a decent chance LeBron stays in Cleveland. But Cleveland probably isn't going to know either way until after the draft so I don't see them start selling off guys like love until they know if bron is coming back. If he leaves then loves gonna get moved but probably not for a 2018 pick. Teams rarely move the guys they just drafted and have made a big pr push around that high pick.
I wonder if they would get a better offer than warren straight up?

Rosterbation.
Suns pick, Heat pick, Reed, Chriss
For
Anthony Davis
Why? Cousins take a 18 months to recover... They re sign him on a discount....Pelicans tank and get younger and more shooters with the picks. Younger team with more depth when Cousins come back healthier and cheaper contract wise.
Suns get Davis
C: Chandler
PF: Davis
SF: Jackson
SG: Booker
PG: Payton
SF: Warren
PF/C: Bender
SG: Daniels

They wouldn't want Warren. Love is a a 40% 3 pt shooter and a premier rebounder. If they keep LeBron, they need defense and 3 pt shooting....or even if they don't.
They are another team that would be a good place to take Young.

IDK why people want to trade Warren that much when our team wants to compete next season.
He is ready to play competitive basketball, he helps to win games. He is not a project, he is a very good player or a very good contract.
He is 24, he is gonna be in his prime the next four seasons.
Players like Chriss, Bender, Jackson, Ulis, Reed, Peters and our future 18 pick are too much young to be consistent and play well every night. We can not relay on these guys if we want to compete for the playoffs next season.
I love Jackson and I would not trade him but I would trade Chriss, Reed and a couple of first round picks over Warren. We do not need three rookies next season, package them with Chriss and add even a future pick if needed to get a solid player next season.

I'm thinking McD will go Porter now...
I think Bender being experimented at Center this season will evolve to him being a Center next season.
This lineup is insane mobile... crappy defense inside though lol
C: Bender 7'1
F: Porter 6'10
F: Jackson 6'8
G: Booker 6'6
G: Payton 6'4
Then have Warren off the bench.
Need some muscle off the bench though, veteran bigs who will act as enforcers and bangers when the game slows down. Maybe Favors at 7-8 million a year.
C: Bender / Favors / Chandler
F: Porter / Chriss / Favors / Peters
F: Jackson / Warren / Dudley
G: Booker / Daniels / Reed

Its not that people want to trade Warren...Outside of our picks, nobody else is worth much. (excluding Book/Jackson/Bender) TJ, packaged with a pick, is one of the few players that would immediately help other teams. Frankly, I think he will back seat it to JJ and thus is expendable, but if and only if we get a significant player back......But, as a wing who is below average from the three, limited on D and a so so rebounder he is likely overvalued by at least me. Lets just hope he sequesters himself into the gym (no worries there), shoots about 5000 threes a day and emerges a 33% shooter next yr.
We have to at least get a starting caliber C or PF. And this assumes that Bender will rise to the occasion. I think I'll fall back onto the safety net of 'do nothing McD' and wait it out. Meanwhile, we'll draft some kid and McD will sign Amir Johnson to a one year deal. Yawn.

Besides Boogie though I don't see us being remotely interested in the other free agents available, maybe DJ if we drafted anyone but a center in this draft.
No, but it impacts our ability to sign Boogie, doesn't it? Or is it a scenario like Warren's, where if Booker signs now, it just ends up being a PPP, where the money will BE there, but it's not there yet. That's the part I don't understand enough, and I get the feeling some other posters on this forum do not either.
If we can sign Booker's extension/next Max, whatever you call it, this summer, can we conceivably sign someone like Boogie this Summer, as in, Booker's NEW contract, not inhibiting us from sign Boogie at all? I understand we'd need to clean up a little bit of other stuff; I'm just strictly talking about Booker's new contract's effect on our ability to sign a high-priced FA. When does Booker's money come into play?
This might alleviate a lot of misunderstanding around here, if you, or someone else, knows the answer. It may have already been posted, but it's a hard to read every post on every page.
Booker's extension will have zero impact on anything this summer (his salary is set in stone for next year). It would have impact on the summer of 19.
Thank you for the clarification; we should paste that into the topic title for numbskulls like me.

I'm not positive when rookie scale extensions can be signed, but most of the ones this past year were signed in Sept or Oct. I imagine we will do any other FA work prior to that since the FA deals usually go down before the rookie scale extensions anyway.

Except Beasley had basketball talent where Chriss just has athleticism.
C'mon...that's being a bit hyperbolic. Chriss has quite a bit of talent that just needs some coaching to be harnessed. You are mistaking young punkish attitude and uncontrolled play as not having talent, and that's just not true. Chriss has quite a bit of offensive and defensive talent.
I know it's easy to pick on the kid that is having some issues right now, but one doesn't play competitive basketball for 4 years, then get drafted into the NBA top 8 without talent and with athleticism alone; that just doesn't happen. You can point to X player that didn't make it in the NBA, but that doesn't mean the kid didn't have talent, that just means he didn't make in the NBA for whatever reason--likely a mixture of lack of opportunity, coaching, attitude, drive, and yes, talent that did not translate to the NBA level. But Chriss has already proven he has the talent to play at the NBA level; he is just sporadic when doing so. To me, that's a development problem, not a talent problem.
I don't think Qwigglez is really off with that statement. I mean it's undeniable that coming out of college Beasley was on a different planet. He was way better and had way more talent than Chriss. But they both have/had attitude issues. Every player that has made it to the league has talent. It's the attitude that separates them.
Chriss has lost me too. Yes I can get excited about his flashes as they happen but overall I don't think he'll put it together. We've seen this so many times over in the league. Barely any player with his attitude/approach to the game puts it together.
Jackson was pouting, complaining and pointing gun fingers and now he's just sucking it up, turning around and keeps on playing - hard. Within a 2/3 season.
Chriss' body language is getting worse by the game. Complaining about everything, not going back on D, half assed effort when things are not going his way. Lazy fouls. And it's getting worse and more as his second year is coming to a close.
But what you are saying is exactly my point; Chriss doesn't have the same inner ability to 'fix' himself on his own. He needs adult guidance...or, we can just give up on a 20-YO athletic, and yes, talented player that we selected 8th overall. He might be beyond saving...IDK. All I am saying is that with his background coming in, I believe he needed more structure than most.
You mentioned Jackson; he played his 1st NBA game at age 20 years 8 months old. Chriss isn't even 20 years 8 months old yet. Yeah, it looks like I'm splitting hairs here, but what I'm trying to impress upon everyone is just how young Chriss is. Booker was young, no attitude, and was/is a true professional, but that's likely more an exception than the rule.
I'm just saying that I think it wise for the FO invest in some personal coaching and some structure for our young PF, rather that punishments; I believe they are likely to get better results both short-term and long-term.

We dealt Bledsoe for a first and a second. We took a second and turned it into Payton. We had Bledsoe, now we have Payton and a first.
And people are talking about getting rid of McD!?
Yes, McD, we are talking about getting rid of you...![]()
Seriously though, I agree. His individual transactions are not the problem. BUT, the sum of the parts are clearly not working. A GM is responsible for building a winning product, and he's been given ample assets (many through his own dealings), to make this happen, yet, here we are, 18-41, and at the bottom of the standings...again. He maybe be nabbing some great deals, but the players, together, are not getting it done. It's more likely due to his Coaching selections; they have all sucked, but still, that's part of his job, is it not?
I feel, if we are not at least an 8th seed by end of next season, McD needs to be shown the door. Sorry, but he will have been given 6 seasons to get to the Playoffs, and will have been Oh-fer on that front, if we miss again next year. We seem to lose the players that somewhat worthwhile players--Dragic, Bledsoe, Markieff, IT--yet managed to get stuck keeping players we don't want--Chandler, BK, and now, Dudley. Next season we pay-out $37.6M to these 3 players, that do nothing for us. That's a Max player. Great, we can get one next season, you say? Uh-uh...we have to pay Booker, and Elfrid this Summer. That money is gone, so we are left with hoping another 'Booker', or at least 'Warren' comes out of this new crop of rookies...and fast...and hope that JJ becomes a force next season. Maybe that happens, and all is good. Great, McD gets to keep his job. If not??? Sorry, I'm of the opinion that he should not.
Come on. Even the 76ers who are in the east and have an arse load of high picks/more talent are barely in the playoff race. You can't expect a 24 win team full of 2nd and 3rd year players to just all of a sudden be greased for making the playoffs. Unless we make some type of "Steve Nash" acquisition I dont see it and I don't think it's fair to not let MCD see his game plan through right as things are turning for the better.
2 gms out of 4th seed, which is as far as they are from being the 9th seed, the with hardest SOS is 'barely'??? Huh...noted.
And, you mean like what we did 5 years ago??? Going from 25 wins to 48?
What I also should not expect is a 48 win team drop to 25 wins within 2 years, and stay there for 3 straight years.
You act like he took over the team this season, but he hasn't. He's mismanaged assets on this team on more than one occasion. He's made poor HC choices, as well.
All I am saying is that with the picks he's had, the success of Booker and Warren, I feel by the end of next season, it's not unreasonable to expect that we be an 8th seed.
If the West ends up having another 'freak' season, like 2013-14, and the Sun's are like, 44-38/43-39...and they miss, then of course he deserves to stay. But if the best he can do is 34-48, or something, IMO, McD should be shown the door... absent some freak health, or other matter that prevents Booker from playing.
That's what I'm getting at. It's up to him to make sure that we keep Elfrid, and make sure Booker, JJ, Bender, and Warren stay engaged, and get 2 solid starting rookies out of this draft.

Where have I been all year?
Where is this Bender talk coming from?
Dude is a scrub, with no grit. He is soft, and needs to man up.
I would replace any of our front court if i could (Len, Chriss, Bender)

Its not like people want to get rid of Warren. Warren is a great player and does all the things you say. But lets say the Suns draft Doncic. This team would be unbalanced. You have to trade something good to get something good. And it just so happens that quality wings are in high demand. Warren's consistency in scoring, combined with his favorable contract, makes us him a valuable trade piece. If you don't want to trade Warren, you have to trade Jackson. But I happen to think that Jackson's two-way play is what we want to keep. He will really come into his own in a year and a half or so, which fits perfect with everyone else. You cannot trade away trash players like Chriss, Ulis, etc and hope to get the piece you need coming back. This is no longer about assets. Its about building a cohesive team.
If the Suns draft Doncic or Porter, they need to package Warren and picks to get a big. Its just what they have to do.

I have proposed earlier my trades and they don't include Warren. I also understand why Warren could be used in a trade. His sarly on 7/1 jumps to 13m - which makes it easier in terms of matching dollars; the Suns might have too many wings if they get Doncic. So, if it happen - depending the player they get back - I will understand
I also know the guy can score the ball and would be a nice role player off the bench. Guys that can get you double figures off the bench, as Week or BWG noted (Manu, Harden, Iguodala Sweet Lou, remember the Microwave) - good guys to have on yoru team.

We can get a big with the Miami pick and/or in free agency that will be more cost effective and not cost us assets.

If the Suns draft Donic or Porter I would rather keep Warren than trade him for some "imaginary" big man. Most big men are getting 24 minutes or less in the new position-less NBA, with the exception of elite bigs who are monsters on offense too. Rolling out line ups like
Payton/Booker/Jackson/Warren/Bender
Doncic/Booker/Jackson/Warren/Bender
Payton/Booker/Jackson/Doncic/Bender
Payton/Booker/Jackson/Porter/Bender
Booker/Jackson/Warren/Porter/Bender
Payton/Booker/Porter/Warren/Bender
Payton/Booker/Jackson/Warren/Porter
excites me more than a big man who can't shoot free throws, clogs the paint for our PGs, and can't shoot the three ball.
Booker can play 1-3
Jackson can play 2-4
Warren can play 3-4
Bender can play 3-5
Porter could play 3-5
Doncic could play 1-4
If your big man isn't elite on offense or can't shoot the three well, other teams will just play small ball against you to nullify his rebounding and shot blocking advantages on the defensive end. Regardless, I don't see us finding an elite big man in a trade this summer. Likewise, any big man we draft is going to take time to develop which mean we should definitely keep TJ around for a bit longer.
