Re: Official Trade Thread: The Block Is Hot!!
FWIW - I'm half-convinced that our front office has been trying to get to the place it's in all season. You want to look like you don't want to trade your awesome players, but that you have no choice. Putting them up for auction devalues them. When they put themselves up for auction but you don't want to let them go, you can get a better deal.
Just my impression.

I think all teams want a first for whoever they are putting on the trade block. I'm sure we want more.
I thought McD said he didn't want to add any more draft picks or rookies anyway. We already can't get half our guys any playing time.
I honestly don't know what teams would give up for Dragic, but they've gotta be hesitant to give up too much.
I mean people here think it would be crazy to lose him for nothing. From another team's perspective it might feel crazy to give up something valuable for him and then lose him for nothing. Now if he says he will commit to a team, that could be a different story.
But I think we probably end up holding onto him because it will be very hard to find equal value and we don't need more bodies just for the sake of bodies or late picks.

So you basically think McD has always wanted to move on from Dragic but Sarver didn't so he signed IT knowing this would happen and Sarver might eventually come around because the situation would have gotten this bad?
Do you want to trade Dragic because you don't want him on the team or because you think he is 100% certain to leave?

bwgood77 wrote:letsgosuns wrote:Do you you guys remember the game against the Spurs last year when Dragic was out and the Suns were fighting for the playoffs. Well that game is a glimpse of what Bledsoe is capable of doing if he is given full reigns to a team. His final stat line was 30 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists, 3 steals, 7 turnovers, 2 fouls, 11-16 fg, 2-4 3pt, 37 minutes. Here are the highlights in case you do not remember: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEIYLU9WyFY (the youtube clip says 10 rebounds but he had 11). Gerald Green was also awesome that game putting up 27 points as the starting shooting guard.
Now the Suns lost that game, but not because of Bledsoe. P.J. Tucker shot 1-8 and Marcus Morris shot 1-7. So when your small forwards combine to go 2-15 and score six total points while the man they are guarding Danny Green scores 33 points, it is very difficult to win.
My point is that if Dragic and Thomas are traded, the Suns can finally unleash Bledsoe as the main ball handler and allow him to flourish. Even though him and Dragic seem to play well together on the surface, they are holding each other back. They basically take turns on who is running the team. There is no consistent flow to the offense. That is no way to play. They both need the ball in their hands. That is more evident now than ever. I am fully confident that the Suns can trade Dragic and Thomas for more assets and have a backcourt of Bledsoe, Green, Ennis, Goodwin, and Bullock rotating until the time comes when either one or more of them breaks out into a superstar or the Suns trade for a superstar.
They both play better individually without the other. When Dragic ran the team last year they were slightly a net positive overall, and with Bledsoe they were a net negative. I think it projected to like 42 wins (based on pt differential) with Dragic and 37 with Bledsoe.
But together they projected to what, 55 wins or something?
Sure, each player limits the other's individual stats to some extent, as do Westbrook/Durant, and other stars playing together, but the TEAM is better with both of them.
Are you really just focused on ONE guy's stat line? I mean Kobe, Melo and those types are fun for some, but I prefer team ball and guys that come together to make the TEAM better and are not just focused on their own stats. I think Bledsoe and Dragic enjoyed the team concept last year because the team was competitive and they were winning.
But I guess if it is more important to you to see a great individual stat line than team success, you have a point. Bledsoe's stats WILL get better overall if he is the only PG on the floor, so if that's your primary goal, then I can see your angle, though I obviously am not concerned only about one guy's stats.
I was just giving an example of a stat line. It was a great night for him and he ran the team very well. The same thing with Dragic. He runs the team better when he is the only point guard like you said. I am only focusing on Bledsoe for three reasons: he is younger, he is a better defender, and he is a more willing passer. However, if the Suns want to keep Dragic, then you have to trade Bledsoe. That is just how I feel. You only need one point guard. It is the one position where it does not work to have two of them because point guards always want the ball in their hands. Relegating Dragic to a spot up shooter is completely unfair to him.
Also, that 55 win projection based on last year has not carried over to this year. Bledsoe has had virtually the same year as last year while Dragic has dropped off. Obviously Thomas' acquisition has impacted him but he still is not playing anything like a 3rd team All NBA player. Idk. I think the Suns need to pick Dragic or Bledsoe and then trade the one they do not want as well as Thomas. The risk of picking Dragic though is that he still might leave as a free agent. Bledsoe is already locked up.

where Goran could have value is to a team like Houston or Chicago where they wouldn't have the cap space to sign him outright this summer but could resign him with bird rights after trading for him. Both those teams are also more likely to risk losing him if they feel he gives them a better shot at a chip this year. None of the non contenders will have any interest in him in a trade.bwgood77 wrote:sunsbum wrote:It seems pretty absurd to me that most suns fans think all we can get for Goran is a first. Maybe it was McD signing Zoran that makes people think we wanted to move Goran the whole time.

Re: Official Trade Thread: The Block Is Hot!!
Dude gets an unreasonable amount of love for a guy who's never started for a playoff team.
Everyone's blaming this on IT.... Remember all those stats from last year that indicated Dragic didn't produce without Frye on the court? Well, there's something to it.
Don't get me wrong, Dragic is a good player. But I don't think he's an elite PG on this league. He's older than the guys who comprise the true core of this team. He's reached his peak, he'll get paid. A guy like him belongs on a contender, in his prime, as the third option. You don't build with a guy like that. If this were 5 years ago - maybe. I'd still prefer, in this PG-dominated league, a defensive PG, with scoring from my other positions. A guy like Bledsoe. Even a pure distributer like Ennis. It's all about trade-offs. Dragic doesn't make sense for this team and where we are at this stage of development. If we were the #3 team in the west - as I truly believe we could have been had these guys come together - things would be different. We are where we are. Time to let go.
Besides, you'll fall in love with that NEW HOTNESS soon enough.
GO SUNS!

I say trade IT, try to re-sign Dragic, see if you regain that 55 win pace magic, and get better as Len, Warren, etc develop, and if it doesn't seem to work, THEN trade Dragic when the receiving team will give you more because he is under contract. He can also be a good asset to trade in a bigger trade for a star. Trading him away for a late first rounder or whatever now doesn't maximize value, and while I understand you stand the risk of losing him for nothing in free agency, I still take that risk, and if that happens, roll with Bledsoe and the team as you want and use that cap space to try and sign a good two like Wes Matthews or whoever you can get, or roll with one of your young twos or Green if you can't find an upgrade in free agency.

I'm disruptive.
Bled was out the other night and it opened up minutes for DA KID. Why? No more 3 PG lineups!
Also, I'm not sure Dragic is the only one who goes. I could see IT, Gerald, maybe even the twins or Tucker going. Plumlee's probably gone. No idea who's coming back.

From what have read, Mirotic is close to untouchable, but I suppose with a re-signed Dragic, it might make some sense though if they have a Rose/Butler backcourt, where does Dragic fit in anyway?

why? Because I think he goes to the highest bidder. To who is a little tough to call at the moment. The Knicks will be looking to spend and could throw a ridiculous contract at him after they lose out on gasol and the restricted guys. The Lakers are a possibility (although they might be gun shy on phoenix pgs lol). The bucks could have interest; there's talk they would like to move knight off the ball more. Heck maybe even a team like Philly decides they need a floor general to develop their young bigs. Maybe Houston clears some space and goes after him.RunDogGun wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:where Goran could have value is to a team like Houston or Chicago where they wouldn't have the cap space to sign him outright this summer but could resign him with bird rights after trading for him. Well thats the "key point"... Dragic agreeing he is HAPPY to extend in Chicago.. His value goes up tremendously to that team he agrees to re-sign with, just like how Kevin Love got 2 number 1 picks to Cavs, because he agreed he will re-sign there.
Bulls can run Rose/Dragic/Butler/Gasol/Noah
